Unsinkable—Navigating around the Icebergs
Once you have your data
you will need time – this
isn’t a bad thing but to draw
out the findings and pro-
duce a professional report
you may need time away
from the work place. Nego-
tiate this if needed.
Think about who the review
is for and where you will
present it – but trial on staff
first
This presentation chal-
lenged us about really
knowing our services
and if we were brave
enough to get a col-
league to review our
service for us. Carol’s
key points included
Don’t review your own
service
Reviewer needs to
check facts e.g. data
source, is it being in-
putted accurately or in a
timely way
Triangulate all the infor-
mation to draw conclu-
sions
Benchmark against na-
tional evidence and best
practice.
Meet with the staff de-
livering the service
linked to the NHS constitu-
tion and high quality care.
There is a 360 degree ap-
praisal tool but be quick as
it is closing in October 2013.
Leaders develop cultures of
high quality care
Leadership and manage-
ment go hand in hand …..
getting the very best out of
your team and you.
Julie explored what is
meant by clinical lead-
ership and manage-
ment. Her summary
included:
Leadership is around
setting the direction,
influencing others and
managing change.
Management relates
more to marshalling
resources and ena-
bling others
She highlights eight
factors in effective
team work. See her
presentation.

ship Academy has re-
leased an accredited
leadership programme
We all look forward to the next few years with Carole at the helm. Carole is keen to hear what you would like LaMPS to be doing for and with its members. You can contact her [email protected]

the executive committee would like to thank Teresa
for all her support and hard work over the years.

how to influence your HWB
board.
Integrated Care Organisa-
tions (ICO) are common in
Germany and USA and
some are looking to come
in the take up some of the
work (any savings made
stay with the ICO rather
than reinvested in health
and or social care)
Avril Imison shared
how H&WB Boards
work
Over the last year they
were in shadow form
but now they are live.
They are coterminous
with Councils and are
a board of commis-
sioners NOT a com-
missioning board. The
Health Oversight Scru-
tiny Committees have
an oversight of the
HWB boards
The H&WB boards are
informed by JNSA
They are looking ex-
pand and develop
joint commissioning
between health and
social care and we
need to understand
the balance of power.
