Credit Hour Loads• Most Music majors register for 15-18 credit hours each quarter, usually

with just one or two non-Music classes each quarter.• Your specific registration will depend on evaluation of any transfer

credits in Music with grades of “C-” or better (more on that in the following slides).

• If you haven’t completed one year of Music major coursework at another institution prior to enrolling at DU, you might find it helpful to review the video overview for first-time first-year undergraduate Music majors, since many of your courses would be the same.

Piano ProficiencyAll Music majors whose principal performance area/instrument is not classical piano, jazz piano, or organ must complete Piano Proficiency requirements before the end of your second year at Lamont.• Students with one year of piano study on their transcript are exempt.• Complete elective courses to fulfill Piano Proficiency requirements.• Take private lessons/practice on your own and complete part 3 of the Piano

Proficiency audition.

Check out the Section V info for incoming students archived in the Lamont tab in PioneerWeb for details on an optional Skype placement for students who have completed 1-3 years of piano lessons; complete this placement with Prof. Kingsland by July 1.

EnsemblesRequirements for MUEN 3000-level Ensembles have two components:• Participation each quarter, as assigned by the faculty through

auditions• Earning a minimum of 12 credits (BA, BM in Composition, and BM in

Recording & Production students) or 24 credits (BM in Jazz Studies and BM in Performance) prior to graduation

Auditions typically take place at the start of the fall quarter, and most students will add these to their schedule during week 1. Check out the Section VI info for incoming students archived in the Lamont tab in PioneerWeb for details.

Use the Section II PDF to predict potential ensemble rehearsal times you should avoid when choosing classes.

• In late July/early August, you will receive an e-mail sent to your DU e-mail account to confirm that your registration is accurate or to start a dialogue about adjustments needed prior to the start of the fall quarter.

AP or IB credits?

• E-mail [email protected].• Make sure that your official score reports have been sent

to DU so that the Registrar’s Office can evaluate them for credit.

Double Major? Minor? Honors?

1. E-mail [email protected] with your other area of interest. In many cases, you’ll start courses for this program in another quarter, but there are some programs we’ll need to discuss prior to registration.
