Traditionally Latin America invests less than 2% of re-
gional GDP in infrastructure. During the 2008 & 2009
financial turmoil, private investments in infrastructure
shrunk while governments planned fiscal stimulus to off-
set a crowding-out effect. In 2010, current economicrecovery in the region is not infrastructure-driven, and the
region continues to underinvest in this industry, while
countries like China invest about 9% or 10% of GDP.
Panelist will discuss innovative financial mechanisms to
invest in strategic infrastructure projects that can trans-
form national and regional economies, raise competi-
tiveness and create long-term jobs. They will also dis-
cuss regional financial trends and steps necessary to
increase private and public investments in infrastructure.
