LAKEWOOD CONNECTION October 2016 PTA President’s Report What an incredible start to the year we’ve had. I want to thank each of you for your encouragement and support of all Lakewood teachers, staff and students. Without you, Lakewood would not be the amazing place it is! Check out the rest of the newsletter and be on the alert for PTA email blasts to keep in the know for upcoming events. For the moment, though, let’s take a look back on the fun year we’ve had so far! August was a fun month for all with Round Up and Back-to-School night. What a fun evening to come together and learn about all that our students will be doing this year. Thank you teachers for all your planning and for the exciting learning opportunities you provide for our children. September seemed to just fly by until it was capped off with our mega day - Jog-A-Thon, Fall Carnival and the opening night of the Fall Book Fair. Our Jog-A-Thon was a great success. Our students came together and did some incredible things! Our Lakewood Lions ran for a total of 4,885 laps. That’s over 610 miles for a student body of less than 400. Impressive, to say the least. In addition to their physical feats, our students canvassed the community asking for sponsorships and raised an incredible $16,000. These funds will go straight back to the school in the form of teacher supplies, financial support for field trip costs, assemblies, and other various learning enrichments costs that are incurred every year. Many thanks for your support and generosity. Thanks go out to the Jog-A-Thon team as well. Great job! The Fall Carnival was a hit with games for all ages, great food and, most importantly, a wonderful opportunity to come together as a Lakewood Family to spend time with each other laughing, breaking bread and building a rich, lasting community. Thank you to all our 6th graders and their parents for all they did to make the evening a success. Bravo!! The Fall Book Fair recently ended and continues to be a favorite for all. If you weren’t able to enjoy the offerings this time, look for it to return this upcoming Spring. Proceeds earned from our Book Fairs support our school library and our teachers’ classroom libraries by providing hundreds of dollars of new books! Thank you, Book Fair team for all your hard work. Thank you for a great beginning to the 2016-2017 school year and Happy Fall to all! Melissa Monday PTA president Lakewood PTA Fall Picnic Thank you for supporting the PTA fall picnic. Jog-A-Thon 2016 Students ran and walked over 650 miles, Friday, September, 30 in Lakewood’s Jon-A-Thon raising more than $16,000 for field trips, enrichment activities, assemblies, and special events.
