PRESIDENT’S MESSAGEHello neighbours,

My name is Michel Bernier and I am the new President of the Lakeridge Community Association. I have been serving on LCA for the past year as your Vice President and prior to that I was the Soccer Coordinator. Over these last four years, I have seen faces come and go. Walking through the school, the park and the grocery store, I run into these folks every now and then. It is such a good feeling knowing that LCA has brought us together. Community brings us together!

I believe in this community, home to approximately 4000 peo-ple, and what it offers. We want to keep our community great, clean and safe.

The community association offers youth and adult leisure programs that are affordable and local. We maintain things like the rink, tennis court and lights. We plan community events

like our first annual garage sale and family fun days. We donate to causes that make our community a better place, such as the signs in front of our schools and the Lakeridge Playground Project.

Just like everything this takes time and money. Our time comes from our volunteers. It is the members of our community that volunteer their time to put programs together, to blow up soccer balls, to build a better news-letter and help the executive on the board. Our income is generated from membership fees, programs and city and provincial grants. You may not have kids in soccer, take part in the zumba class or come to our fun day, but, I am betting you look at the signs as you drive by or walk by the schools, have friends or family that use the park and rink or you have grand-kids that use the spray park.

If you fall into one of these categories, I challenge you to hold an active membership. $10 / family covers you for the year starting with our fall registrations. We can use this to build the next project we want to get behind.

At the time of writing this message, Phase 1 of the Lakeridge Playground project is underway. By the time this newsletter comes out, it will be ready! That is awe-some. Simply awesome!

In order to accomplish these things, it takes involve-ment! It takes you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!We are very proud to be part of the Lakeridge community, serving its members with Catholic education for the past 25 years. Guided by the Gospel virtues, we stand firm on a mission based on our Catholic faith. This year we continue to stride forward with division and school improvement plans to improve reading achievement, focus on early years’ interventions, as well as supporting First Nation and Metis cultural understanding. As we are at the mid-year point, we are encouraged by the great successes we have already achieved this year, and look forward to the continual growth in the upcoming months.

It is the time of year that we start thinking about registrations for the upcoming school year, especially for Kindergarten. If you, or someone you know, are looking for schooling options for a child that will be 5 years of age by January 31st, 2017, we invite you to explore St. Luke School. We offer a faith-based experience that is grounded in child-centered approaches to nurture and support your child’s growth, academically, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Please drop by the school, or call us at 306-659-7370, to organize for a tour.

A NOTE TO THE LAKERIDGE COMMUNITY

On about June 26, 2016 at 3:00 am, 5 youths decided to remodel the sign in front of St. Luke School. They tore a limb off the tree in front of the school and proceeded to batter and break the letters and rails on the sign.

These signs were donated to the schools a few years ago at the cost of $9,000.00 each.

The damage to the sign is estimated at $1,200.00 which is another cost the CA will cover. This is the 3rd incident with damage to this sign in this calendar year.

The Saskatoon City police have contacted the LCA and are continuing their investigation.

If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please come forward to the police or to your LCA. If the vandals are found, we would like them to work off their cost of damage by helping to repair boards on the rink, paint it and help repaint the tennis court.

This type of vandalism has been going on in our community far too often.“Do you know where your children are?” Thank you, Gary Polishak Park-Rink Co./ Past-President Lakeridge CA

WELCOME BACK LAKERIDGE STUDENTSWe trust you have enjoyed an active and relaxing summer break! Lakeridge School staff are prepared for another exciting school year. We look forward to reconnecting with returning students and their families, and welcoming all those who are new to the school. Mark your calendar for the ANNUAL SCC Pancake Breakfast scheduled for September 30th. See YOU soon! Kevin Epp Principal-Lakeridge School

WHAT ARE MEMBERSHIP FEES USED FOR?

Our community association was established for the benefit of our Lakeridge residents, developing programs and services to enhance our community’s interests and needs.

Your membership fee is used for developing and running programs, activities and administrative costs for the association.

In 2006 your Lakeridge Community Association donated $9,000 to each of our community’s schools to erect our school/community signs; and more recently donated $10,000 to the Lakeridge Playground Project.

Your membership fee also helps to pay for the upkeep of our community rink & tennis court. We also use this money to help pay for our annual family fun day!

The Lakeridge Community Association (LCA) is maintained by the dedicated individuals who volunteer their time to improve the quality of life for themselves and others in the community. Share the feeling of community pride – take time, make time - get involved with your community!

Support your association by purchasing a membership online or from any member of the executive.
