the performance of students and the effectiveness of the school.
219-663-5683 Office
Cindy Wise, Principal
Wise’s Words of the Week: Greetings from Lake Street Elementary—home of the 4-Star Dazzling Dolphins
We have enjoyed a great week back from Spring Break! Our students, teachers, and staff are back in the swing of things and we are headed for a final 7 weeks of school…hard to believe! You should have received your child’s report card this week. Make sure you send back the report card envelope signed as soon as possible. Thank you!
A COUPLE OF REMINDERS:
Please let the office know when you are requesting homework and we will have it ready for pick up at 3:45. Also, requests for homework before a vaca-tion are difficult to accommodate. Teachers teach and base homework on that, so assignments are given after lessons are taught. Therefore, if a stu-dent is leaving for a trip, they will receive the homework upon their return. PLEASE have your student read while away from school.
Attendance is extremely important because there is no replacement for the teaching and learning that goes on daily in our classrooms. Also, we are in jeopardy of losing our 4 Star Sta-tus because our attendance this year is under the 97% required by the State of Indiana. Please do your best to have your children present and on time every day because it is crucial to their learning. Thank you!
Next week Wednesday is ½ day for students. Our dazzling dolphins will be dismissed at 12:14.
Drivers, please have patience when entering and exiting the parking lot. Being aware of other drivers, our busses, our teachers, and your children is extremely important. Please park only in marked spots and use handicapped areas only if you have the handicapped placard/plate. ALL parker parents please enter the building to pick up your child. Do not wait outside for your child to come to you. PLEASE come in to get him/her. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.
Happy Notes:
Thank you to Jessica Poulton and Rachel Steward for spearheading a drive to up-date and upgrade our courtyard! With Mr. Phil Poulton’s help, funds and manpow-er from N.W.I.L.A (Northwest Indiana Landscape Association), Alsip Nursery, Nie-meyer’s and the Rotary Club of Crown Point have been secured to get this project
completed THIS spring…oh happy day. Our very own Student Council and a few community volunteers will keep our “quiet garden courtyard” nurtured and cared for, so all of our students and teachers can use this beautiful space for a very long time.
With gratitude, Mrs. Cindy Wise
Lake Street will be participating in the American Heart Association’s Hoops for Heart event. Our Hoops for Heart event will take place on Friday, April 17th during recess time. Permission slips and collection envelopes went home the Friday before Spring Break. Last year Lake Street raised over $3,200 for this great organization. Not only are we donating to a great cause, but Lake Street also earns points to buy new playground balls and equipment. There are two ways that you can raise money: 1. Go online to http://www.kintera.org/site/c.dkLRKbOWLjK4E/b.8180513/k.BD61/Home.htm and put in our state and city. You will then find Lake Street and click on join team! 2. Use your collection envelope and turn it in by Friday, April 17th! You can turn in donations both online and with the collection envelope. Any amount will help with this great cause! ALL DONATIONS ARE DUE BY FRIDAY, APRIL 17TH! If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Poulton - [email protected] or Mrs. Steward – [email protected]
