The school was placed in lockdown today due to an incident in the

Carters Road precinct. Please be assured that all students and staff

followed the procedures and were safe.

Principal’s Report

This week we feature Year 2. This learning year builds on those reading,

mathematical and general knowledge skills learned in Kinder and Year 1.

Children in Year 2 begin to tackle more complex reading and writing tasks

and consolidate their basic skills on which future learning really depends.

The teachers on Year 2 this year are:

Carpark

Thank you to all those families who worked around the staff carpark closure

today. We are working to create new spaces in the school for students

regarding the bike area and play spaces.

Lake Munmorah Public School is building a respected and safe place for all students and our community. When open, our staff carpark is a very busy area with vehicles coming in and out. We ask that students and parents do not walk through the carpark gates and into the carpark. Thank you for being respectful and enabling all students to enjoy a safe, respectful school. Young Leaders Day

What an excellent experience for our school leaders attending the Young Leaders Day on

Monday. Not only do they get to meet student leaders from other schools, but they also get to

meet some very interesting guest speakers and inspirational people. Well done to the team!

Zone Swimming

Congratulations to all the students who competed at the Zone Swimming Carnival on

Wednesday. It was a fantastic day for all the competitors, with Hunter, Coco, Havi and Carissa

making it through to the Sydney North Carnival at Homebush later in the term. All competitors

displayed excellent behaviour and sportsmanship and made our school proud. Best of luck to

the four representatives moving to the next level. We look forward to hearing about their efforts

at this event.

In further sports news, we wish the following students good luck in their upcoming events:

• Boys Cricket Team at the Gala day on Tuesday

• Josh at the Sydney North Tennis Trials

• Duncan and Cohen at the Combined CC Rugby League Trials

• Jack, Koby and Brody at the Sydney North Cricket Trials

High School visits

I have been in regular contact with Ms Fleming, the Relieving Principal at Lake Munmorah High

School. I know the enrolment forms for high school have gone to families in Year 6 and we

have been planning some additional and/or earlier visits for our Year 6 students. I look forward

to sharing these with you as they are finalised.

Please return the High School Expression of Interest forms as soon as possible.

Don’t forget—Wear your best smile (and full school uniform, of course!) for the school

photos on the 13th March.

Principal

Don’t let what you can’t do, stop you from doing what you can do.

Together we can make change. Everyone has a role to play in supporting young people in dealing with

bullying and helping to energise positive discussions about the issue.

National definition of bullying for schools:

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical

and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or

psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing

their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel

unable to stop it from happening. Bullying can happen in person or

online, via various digital platforms and devices, and it can be obvious

(overt) or hidden (covert). Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the

potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of

digital records). Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term

effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals,

whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.

PBL News

This week our PBL Committee held the second PBL meeting of the year. At our meetings, which are attended by

Classroom Teacher and Student Learning Support Officer representatives, our Learning Support Teacher, Mrs

Dyson-Smith, one of our Assistant Principals, Mrs Radley, our Principal, Mrs Baldwin and Deputy Principal, Ms

Weekes. One of the tasks of the committee at each meeting is to carefully review behaviour data from the previous

three weeks to see which areas need to be addressed within PBL lessons.

Our data this month reveals that students need reminding of appropriate behaviour in the bathrooms. Therefore,

this is our PBL focus for week 7.

The key messages are:

I go to the bathroom at an appropriate time

I go, flush, wash and leave

I leave the toilet as clean as I found it

I inform teachers of any problems

This week classes completed a PBL buy in survey to choose preferred activities for our Term 1 PBL Reward Day,

which will be held on 3rd

April. On this day, students buy into an activity using the Lakeys they have earned

throughout the term by displaying Respect, Responsibility and doing their Personal Best. Activities will be

preselected and a note will be sent home if students choose activities requiring some home preparation (eg. Mufti

or crazy socks).
