Three Year Bream Harvest Comparison

RAIN!!! Glorious di-hydrogen oxide fell from the skies!! We got 4.0 inches of rain at the end of November and the lake rose 6 inches! It was the first rain to fall in 56 days!! The lake water temperature is 58 degrees and Secchi is 36 inches. The lake has experienced its winter turnover and the water is generally clear.
Christian Peters caught this whopper 11-pound monster bass in November. Believe it or not but Christian released this bass back to the lake. If this fish had been caught in February or March it could have easily topped 13 pounds.
Trent Humber, a UWA student and member of the UWA Bass Club, caught this nice 7-pound bass near the dam. Trent released this fish back to the lake. I have been noticing monster bass feeding near the riser on the dam for some time now.
Jay Haffner brought the state shock boat down in November to conduct an electro-survey of Lake LU. In this photo Tyler Newburn, a UWA graduate assistant helped me dip up the fish for the study.
BIG FISH!! We went to one pile of timber and shocked up so many big bass we had to double dip them!
This was a 9.5-pound bass and it was the biggest of the day. We shocked up this 9.5, one 7-pounder, a couple of 5’s and a handful of 4 pounders. The lake is doing GREAT!!
Daniel Ratcliff, my work study student, poses with a nice 7-pound bass.

Bass Fishing
2016 BASS HARVEST REGULATION
Anglers have an unlimited bass harvest at Lake LU, as long as the bass is less than 14 inches in total length.
In addition, anglers may also harvest 1 fish greater than 22 inches in total length, per person, per day at
Lake LU. Please continue to encourage anglers to harvest
small bass. ~ Jay Haffner
Bream fishing is over with for this year. Sorry El Paso! Look for the big shell crackers in January.
The trails got new signs. The old signs had gotten some weather damage so the company sent us some free replacements.
I put the old signs at the prairie kiosk so that they could still continue to educate the public.
The cotton I planted finally made cotton bolls. I got a lot of great comments about this patch of cotton I had growing near the nature trail entrance. Almost everyone said that they had never seen cotton growing. Everyone needs to know where a pair of denim jeans begin.
There must have been 10,000 old baseballs in the mud behind the baseball field.
The beavers of the lake really lived up to their title of “busy”. While the lake was so low, they dug out the entire creek channel from their lodge all the way out to the lake. They must have dug out approximately 150 yards of channel and moved an estimated 10 tons of mud. Thanks for the help guys.
Green mud.
A tiny garter snake that could only be seen by the young eyes of Daniel Ratcliff. For scale, it is crawling near a deer track.
My turnip and mustard greens patch, or as I like to call it, my wildlife food plot.
A beautiful late fall sunset of Lake LU.
Sunset by the pier.
Sunset with Jon boat.
Sunset with bench.
REMINDER: Lake LU will be closed from Monday, December 12, 2016 through Tuesday, January 3, 2017 for the UWA Christmas and New
Year Holidays. Lake LU will reopen on Wednesday, January 4,
2017 at 6:00 a.m.
