Treatment: 10 organizations
o Campagna Academy: During the 2013‐2014 year, 67 youth were served in their
intensive outpatient program. Once assessed by the SASSI‐S2 screening, and if a youth is
shown to have a high probability of substance abuse or substance dependence disorder
then they will participate in group which meets for three hours, 3/4 times a week for 16
or 24 sessions. NA, AA, and individual therapy are also available to clients. Of the 67
clients 56 completed intensive outpatient therapy.
o The Campagna IOP program uses the evidence‐based Matrix Model for Teens and
Young Adults.
Prevention: 15 organizations
o School City of Hobart: provided random drug testing at Hobart High School and Hobart
Middle School during the 2013‐2014 school year. Currently their district has a 2.17%
rate, which has decreased by 1.5% from the previous school year and is below the
national average of 2.7%. Hobart students also saw a decrease in past month alcohol
use by 5% from the past year. Hobart did see an increase in positive alcohol screenings
from Jan. 2014‐April 2014, but saw a decrease in May 2014. Students with positive
results are given counseling and the parents are brought in for a meeting with the
principals. The student is given support and retested.
o All 5th grade Hobart students participate in the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
annually. Full parental participation is still a struggle to get when educational events are
hosted by the district which is something that Hobart intends to work on in following
years with LCSAC funds.
Law Enforcement: 17 organizations
o Teen Court: The Crisis Center provides the Teen Court program to youth around
Northwest Indiana. This process provides youth an opportunity to learn the
consequences of unlawful actions and is an early intervention that prevents further
unlawful behaviors. This program holds youth and their parents/guardians accountable
through the highly effective peer court process. Between 2013‐2014, 124 youth
respondents (offenders) have participated in the Teen Court program, 132 parents of
the respondents participated, 123 youth served on the Teen Court jury which
contributed 738 hours to determine sentence for other youth who appeared before
their court of peers, and 108 hours were contributed by attorneys acting as a Teen
Court Judge.
