This week we celebrated Education Week and Book Week combined. The theme for Education Week was Learning Together’. I feel like this theme is so important in the year we have had so far. With not only students adapting to change but also staff and the community. I truly believe we will come through this together as stronger partners in your childs education. This year we celebrated Education Week by holding our annual dress up day for Book Week. All students and staff in K to 12 were encouraged to participate and we had some fabulous costumes on parade. The parade was a little different this year with each class going to the library for photos and games. WEEK 3 TERM 3 7th August 2020 Dear Parents and Caregivers Reports for Semester 1 for Kinder - Year 10 will be going home with students on Monday next week. Please remember due to our disrupted Term 1 and 2 the Department of Education advised us to only report on efforts of students learning. This means there will be no grades or ranks. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines we will not be holding formal Parent/Teacher interviews this time. If you wish to clarify any information in your childs report I suggest you contact your childs teacher through the office to conference over the phone. Our resident photo whiz will be compiling a virtual Book Week Parade to be released soon on our Facebook page. In primary we have reviewed some procedures in regards supervision of students in the playground. This term we have placed an extra teacher on duty during lunchtime to be able to open up the equipment all of lunch. This will provide more areas for students to play. Also from this week, to ensure the safety of students and to ensure students are on the correct bus we are asking students to sit in bus lines for a fortnight trial period. We encourage students to bring a book or drawing book to keep themselves occupied for the short time before they catch their buses. This is quite common practice across many schools across the state. We will continue to monitor and review our playground supervision and procedures to ensure the best outcomes for our students, staff and community. This week our Year 12 students participated in the HSC Study Days in Condobolin. This was their last chance to meet with their teachers and peers from the other schools in out LAP Network before the HSC which is looming ever closer.

We were also extremely fortunate to have BATYR, a for purpose preventative mental health organisation, created and driven by young people, for young people, attend our school this week and speak to our students in Years 9 – 12. We were lucky to be able to hear first hand about some struggles with mental health and how they were overcome. BATYR also ran a Professional Learning session for our staff on Thursday afternoon which was very informative

This week, Stage 1 Kalthi dressed up as their favourite book character. This years theme was “Curious Creatures and Wild Minds”. On Thursday, students participated in the virtual book week parade. We all had a fantastic day. Here we are with our costumes on ready to go:

Recently, there has been a great deal of excitement and anticipation of a Friday afternoon in Stage 1 Kalthi. Students have been enjoying listening to Mrs Townsend read Roald Dahl’s The Twits. Last Friday, Mrs Townsend set Stage 1 Kalthi the task of drawing their own interpretation of Mr or Mrs Twit.

To the parents and carers of Year 12 students, I would like to ask that you continue to support and encourage our Year 12 students through this stressful time. They are so close to the end that they can almost taste it! It would be great to see a strong finish from all of our amazing Year 12s and I am sure that they are looking forward to their final few weeks of their schooling. Thank you all, and stay safe! Mr L Monshing Year 12 Year Advisor

Year 12 News Hello everyone! Well, the time has absolutely been flying, and we are already at the end of the third week of Term 3. This is the last term of school for our Year 12 students and they are on the home stretch towards finishing their HSC! This week our Year 12 students attended three HSC Study Days in Condobolin, which were organised by the Lachlan Access Program. The students are now gearing up to sit their Trial Exams, which are coming up in Week 6 of this Term.

Things have been very strange and chaotic for our Year 12 students this year. 2020 has been completely different to any other year of school that they have had so far. Because of COVID–19, LCCS, along with the rest of the country, went into shutdown for almost nine weeks. A lot of activities for our Year 12 students have been cancelled or rearranged, including some of their excursions, their assessment tasks, and even their HSC exams. There are still restrictions, and this means that our students haven’t been able to do their normal fundraising activities to contribute towards the Year 12 formal. Last Term, we were lucky enough to be able to make some delicious pumpkin soup with the help of Ms. Ireland and a lot of pumpkins from the Ag Plot! Watch out, because there is more pumpkin soup coming up in the near future!
