Note from the Principal
Hello Parents and Community Members,
This past month has been a busy one. We have had
badminton playoffs, our annual school goals presentation
to division office, and three track and field meets. June
looks like another busy month.
Swimming lessons are scheduled for June 6-10 and 13-17 in
the mornings and a grade 4-6 district track and field meet
will be on June 10. Classes and units will be coming to an
end, however, and we want to encourage all to read over
the summer months. Watch for some year-end
communication around how to keep reading over the
summer.
I would like to congratulate the grade 8s who will soon be
leaving our school and heading to Waldheim full-time.
The grade 8s are leaders in the school and will be missed.
We are always teaching and practicing safety. We will be
doing three fire drills prior to the end of June. Other things
to consider are bike safety, swim safety, being sun safe,
and protecting our selves from pests (ex: mosquitoes, ticks,
etc.).
Be safe this month and keep learning.
Mr. Dean Hignett

News from the SCC Another great year is drawing to a close at the Laird School and the SCC was delighted to see all of the support for our kids at the local track and field meet in May. The BBQ was a success and we enjoyed another year of fine weather and happy people for the event. A big thank you to all of the SCC members for their help throughout the year. Pam Smith, Lindsay Speiser, Susanah Hamm, Trevor Janzen, Jen Janzen, Michelle Dueck, and Michelle Funk were great to work with over the 2015/2016 school year and I look forward to working with most of you again next year. The staff members: Dean Hignett, Susan Jeske and Chris Harris were also a big help with our events for this year. Have a great summer and we look forward to doing it again next fall. Swimming classes will run
mornings from June 6 - 10 and
13 -17. Please send all the
proper attire and equipment on
these days, including bags for
wet items.
FOUND! A ring that looks like a wedding band was found in our library a few weeks ago. If you are missing yours, please come talk to us in the office.
The Grade 8’s are now busy preparing for grad. Grad will be on
Friday June 17th. The grade 7’s and 8’s have been busy writing
speeches and preparing murals for painting. The students in this
year’s graduating class are: Benjamin Bowes, Brooke Janzen,
Janelle Peters, Connor Riegert, and Aurora Therrien. We wish
them all the best as they continue their education at Waldheim
next year.
Track and Field
On Wednesday, May 18th, many of our Grade 7 and 8 students
participated in Track and Field at Griffith’s Stadium in Saskatoon.
It was a great day and also a great learning experience for the
Grade 7’s who were participating there for the first time. Five
students managed to advance to District Finals which were held
on Friday, May 27th. Congratulations to all of the participants!
We had our Laird School Track and Field day on Thursday, May
19th. Thanks to the SCC for the wonderful lunch. It was a great
day. Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the day with
us.
The junior badminton team wrapped up the season. We
had 16 athletes travel to the first round of playoffs in
early May. From those, four athletes advanced to the
next round. Ayden Dufour and Andrew Dennis
competed in boys doubles, while Austin Schwaerzle and
Connor Riegert competed in boys singles.
Congratulations to the entire team who played very
well and improved their skills.

The evening will include a “taste” of Kindergarten life for the children, a
parent/teacher information session and a tour of the building. This evening
may also provide time to fill out the final stages of registration and have all
documents in place. The fun and relaxing evening will end with
coffee, juice and cookies! See you June 20th!
