Ladywell School - Excellence At The Heart

SEBN Staged Intervention Joint Working

Background And Referral Information

Ladywell School exists to support children with

additional support for learning needs which arise

from social, emotional and behavioural factors.

The Ladywell cohort is all children and young

people in Glasgow Mainstream Secondary

Schools. We also offer support to children of

primary/secondary transition age and some

youngsters in ASN Secondary. Ladywell works

in partnership with schools and other agencies

to try to ensure that every child and young

person with whom we jointly work achieves and

attains to the very best of their ability and

builds a positive and coherent sense of

themselves and their place in our world.

Every interaction in/by Ladywell is based on

positive, nurturing and trusting relationships.

Emotional literacy is at the core of our work

and we are building an ethos whereby every

member of our school community can be an

empathic, resilient, successful and thriving self-

leader who is wise and compassionate, interacts

with integrity and believes in justice for all.

OUR VISION

Embedding Curriculum for Excellence and inclusion

through an emotionally literate curriculum and

culture, thus ensuring that everyone has the

opportunity to be a successful learner, confident

individual, effective contributor and responsible

citizen.

Working in partnership with Glasgow schools,

families, our community and external agencies in

order to promote equally high expectations and

aspirations for all.

Being inclusive – helping young people and families

to recognise and celebrate their unique strengths

and talents and realise their own personal vision.

OUR VALUES

In Ladywell, we deeply believe in:

Putting young people and families first through the

promotion of rights and responsibilities and the

building of a nurturing culture of self-awareness

and self-leadership for the wellbeing of all.

Embedding inclusion, trust, wisdom, justice,

integrity, mutual respect and emotional literacy in

all that we do.

Keeping collaboration and co-operation at the

heart of everything we do as a professional

learning organisation.

OUR AIMS

Self-Leadership and Self-Motivation

Providing our learners with the opportunities and

support to develop skills and qualities for success

and happiness today and in a changing future.

Nurturing Climate

Developing positive relationships and a love of

learning through our empowering, nurturing and

emotionally literate culture.

Structure

Within a proactive, individualised and innovative

framework, assessing and ensuring progress for

our learners in partnership with families and

external agencies.

REFERRAL CRITERIA

Ladywell School is a Stage 3 Intervention on

Glasgow’s Staged Intervention Model.

Therefore, a referral should be made when a

school is looking for enhanced support outwith

that which can - and has - been offered

within class and wider school for children with

additional support needs arising from social,

emotional and behavioural factors. Referrals

should be made as a result of a decision made

by a multi-agency forum such as a

Joint Assessment Team/Joint Support Team.

Parent/carer permission must also be sought

before referring and partners involved with the

individual learner kept abreast.

The Referral Form should be accompanied by:

A PRF - detailing records of staged interven-

tion, additional support needs, support in place

and forward planning reflecting appropriate

differentiation

Outreach

Outreach is offered to children and young peo-

ple who need level 3 support because they are

continuing to be unable to cope with school life

due to anxieties, self esteem or behavioural is-

sues. These children and young people are not

in danger of requiring specialist placement -

and are unlikely to be subject to Management

Circular 8 - but are just not able to attain and

achieve to the best of their abilities/build the

relationships necessary to support them being

happy, safe and achieving their potential.

Outreach Teachers work with children and young

people in their own schools. This usually

involves spending one period per week with a

learner on an individual/group basis. Learners

are then able to be supported in practising new

strategies. Each learner should have a learning

mentor within their own school. This colleague

will track and share general and target progress

information as agreed at Case Conference.

Ladywell input will take place for around 20

weeks with a Review being held half way

through.

Our Outreach Team can also offer support in

the summer term to primary 7 learners for

whom schools have concerns re a successful

transition to secondary. This support continues

in secondary to around October.

Outreach Teachers use individualised

programmes for each learner which are

emotionally literate based.

The Outreach Referral Process is outlined

overleaf:

Inreach/Shared Placements

Shared placement is offered to children and

young people who need level 3 support because

they are continuing to be unable to cope with

school life due to anxieties, self esteem or

behavioural issues. These children and young

people are not in danger of requiring specialist

placement but are becoming increasingly subject

to procedures in Management Circular 8.

Each shared placement learner should have a

learning mentor within their own school. This

colleague will track and share general progress

information. They will also track and share

progress on the joint Health and Wellbeing

Target(s) learners are working on as a result of

their ‘Motivated School Energy For Learning’

work in Ladywell. Information will flow

continuously but must do so on a formal basis

every 2 weeks.

Core Curriculum is delivered in the referring

school. It is therefore vital that timetables

are structured in such a way that learners

Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing,

including PE, are not adversely affected.

Ladywell colleagues will be focusing on positive

behaviour choices and developing emotional

literacy and love of learning and engagement.

Curriculum for Excellence Emotional/Mental

Wellbeing Experiences and Outcomes will be the

core business. A close eye will also be kept on

Literacy and Numeracy across.

The shared placement will last for around 20

weeks with a Review half way through. Learn-

ers will normally attend Ladywell for 3 half

days per week. However, if a learner is being

offered one-to-one sessions rather than a

group placement, then attendance is normally

one half day per week. Most learners are able

to be placed in groups.

office and are available on our website. They

can also be emailed out to individual colleagues.
