LEARNING WITH MRS WEBB

What a BUSY start to the year we have had in Primary! It’s been great to be getting to know our new students and seeing how the class dynamic has changed with the 2019 year 6’s leaving and the 2020 Year 3’s arriving. I feel like we have all quickly gotten to know each other well and have settled into our new roles and friendships.

We’ve stuck straight into curriculum...deciding our passion projects for term 1, starting our STEM projects, moving through our informative text unit, all focusing on our bushfire theme which is being taught by Miss Grimson this term.

Mr Schultz has showed us lots of new tech platforms and programs to assist our learning and make publishing works soooo much easier!

LEARNING WITH MRS D AND MISS GRIMSON

The year started with a blast of summer heat, but now in week 3 we are enjoying the relief of the rain and cooler weather. The children have coped amazingly well with the conditions and are beginning to settle into our routines.

Last week the Kinders completed their Best Start assessments and I was pleased with how they responded to the tasks. This week the Kinders have begun learning their sounds (s and a so far) and have been doing a lot of writing, colouring, cutting out and pasting. In Maths they have been completing calendar activities, counting their days at school in a variety of ways and completing number activities.

Likewise, the Yr 1 and 2 students have completed some assessments. These include the SA spelling and the Essential Assessment program in Maths. The information gained from such assessments guide us in targeting areas for focus in each child’s learning and with the maths program, explicitly identifying and setting appropriate learning activities. Year 1 and 2 daily routines are also being established and the children are reading and writing most mornings and working on reviewing number in Maths.

Each Thursday I will be on release until after Recess and Miss Grimson will be taking the class in this time. She will teach History in the morning and Maths in the middle session. The children have worked with Miss Grimson while I was completing the Kinder assessments and again this week when I was on sick leave and she has developed a good relationship with the children and understanding of our routines as a result.

It has been lovely to meet with parents, new and old, and to welcome the children to the 2020 school year and I look forward to the year ahead!

REMINDER NOTES DUE GARDENING

It was lovely to return to school and see the vegie garden flourishing. We were able to combat the terrible conditions due to our irrigation system and regular checks by parents and myself. Issues such as burst pipes, faulty tap timers and roots blocking drains challenged our efforts at the time, but fade now as we see the students using and enjoying the produce and garden activities.

A big thank you to Kat, Lydia and Malachy for making regular checks and sending me text messages when problems arose -the garden would not have survived the conditions! Also, many thanks to Kate Vincent who is again bringing us seedlings, small and large, to expand our range of plantings. Kate, together with some primary students, planted up and mulched one of the larger beds yesterday afternoon and has left us with a generous supply of lettuce and other seedlings to put in. I think we may have some bumper crops by Autumn, how exciting!!

Thankyou to those who have already returned their notes. Reminder the following notes are now due in Swimming - years 2-6, soccer gala day years 3-6, parent information update - existing families and scripture notes - new families.

BIRTHDAYS

Happy Birthday to Kaden and Natalie.
