April 19: Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday)– Mercy Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – Mercy In the Gospel, Jesus institutes the Sacrament of Reconciliation, authorizing the Apostles to forgive sins in the name of Jesus. It is no coincidence that Jesus says, “Peace be with you” more than one time to them as he greets them. When was the last time you went to the Sacrament of Reconciliation? What beautiful peace in our hearts is found in this sacrament! Through the priest, Jesus forgives us of our sins when we are truly contrite. We receive sanctifying grace and actual graces that will help us to overcome sin in the future. Although sometimes we may still be restless and doubt God’s forgiveness, we must remember the words of Christ to St. Faustina: “I am love and Mercy Itself. There is no misery that could be a match for My mercy, neither will misery exhaust it, because as it is being granted – it increases. The soul that trusts in My mercy is most fortunate, because I Myself take care of it.’” God’s mercy is always greater than our sins. Let us approach the throne of grace and mercy, trusting in the goodness of the Lord. archstl.org/dynamic

The Rendezvous has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 virus.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY- In light of the current pandemic, Archbishop Carlson has decreed that the faithful of the Archdiocese of St. Louis may gain plenary indulgences while public masses are suspended without actual confession and communion, provided that they have inner contrition and the resolution to go to these sacraments as soon as possible The faithful who cannot pray before the Blessed Sacrament on Divine Mercy Sunday can remember that they, like all the faithful, can gain a plenary indulgence by praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet to "implore from Almighty God the end of the epidemic, relief for those who are afflicted and eternal salvation for those whom the Lord has called to Himself" (Decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary March 20, 2020). As a reminder, in order to obtain a plenary indulgence, the faithful must, in addition to being in a state of grace: •have the interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial sin;•have sacramentally confessed their sins;•receive the Holy Eucharist;•pray for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.

THIS WEEKS READINGS A week out from Easter Sunday we have the opportunity to listen to three responses to the Resurrection event. In Acts we hear of the communal practices of the early church. Peter praises God for the “living hope” Jesus brought to all who believe. John tells the well-known story of Thomas, who needed to see the resurrected Jesus before he would believe, and Jesus’ subsequent blessing of those who believe without seeing. Let us listen and believe. QUESTION OF THE WEEK Can I identify with Doubting Thomas, at times unsure of my faith? In what ways has Jesus given me peace to overcome the anxieties in my life?

Mass can be viewed on antenna TV on channel 2.2 at 9am on Sunday, on YouTube, on Satellite TV EWTN several times a day & daily Mass with Bishop Baron @ wordonfire.org/daily-mass. Confessions will be available by appointment only. Please call the Rectory to make an appointment 436-0580

Prayer to Saint Thomas, the Apostle O Glorious Saint Thomas, your grief for Jesus was such that it would not let you believe he had risen unless you actually saw him and touched his wounds. But your love for Jesus was equally great and it led you to give up your life for him. Pray for us that we may grieve for our sins which were the cause of Christ’s sufferings. Help us to spend ourselves in his service and so earn the title of “blessed” which Jesus applied to those who would believe in him without seeing him. Amen.

Diaper Drive. On April 25th, the Permanent Deacons of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, in conjunction with the Respect Life Office, will be collecting diapers for infants, toddlers, and adult incontinence products as part of our third annual diocesan-wide Pro-Life service project to assist families in need. Last year, we collected over 185,000 diapers for those in need and we’d like to exceed that total this year. You may drop them off at St. Joachim Church by the side door beginning March 21st. All diapers collected will be donated to assist families in our parish community and the Caring Hearts Pregnancy Resource Center. We ask that you pray for the success of this project and to please be generous. Deacon Steve Politte *Please drop off at the Parish Office, in a box just inside the door.
