HOSPITALITY (180 credits)

Ladies’ College

Period : January 2016 – May 2018

Academic qualifications are typically classroom-based qualifications which are assessed externally through formal exams or moderated coursework, whereas vocational qualifications are typically taught in a hands-on manner and assessed internally by the tutor or trainer throughout the course, via the completion of practical assignments. The BTEC vocational qualifications are work-related qualifications offered by PEARSON EDEXCEL, suitable for a wide range of learners, built to accommodate the needs of employers and also allow progression to university. They provide a more practical, real-world approach to learning alongside a key theoretical background in a particular field of study. With their strong emphasis on developing practical skills inculcating specialist knowledge and understanding for a particular sector, BTEC Higher Nationals are recognised internationally by employers as providing learners with the key concepts and practical skills for direct progression to, or within, employment. we offer the Extended Diploma in Hospitality. It consists of 4 mandatory units and 22 optional units. As these units have different credit points, we select units in a manner that students

could earn at least 180 credits – being the requirement of the Extended Diploma. The Extended Diploma is recognized by institutes of higher education as being equivalent to 3 Advanced Level

subjects.

The duration of the programme is 2 - 21/2 years, consisting of 1,400 hours of teaching, 500 hours of practical training and 100 hours of research work. The BTEC students of Ladies’ Col-

lege shall obtain their practical training from the Cinnamon Group of Hotels. The course consists of continuous assessments (at least two) per unit in lieu of written examinations.

The completion of the course will enable students to obtain exemptions in a Hospitality degree

programme with some universities and obtain extra credits with others. With its well-rounded curriculum, students of BTEC would be able to seek employment in the Hospitality Sector, soon

after the completion of the course.
