Worked in stripes of garter stitch alternated with a simple lace
pattern, this scarf is

42 Knitting Lace for Every Day
To attach fringe to 1 end of the scarf, fold 1 group
of 6 yarn strands in half. Using a crochet hook,
pull the yarn (at the fold) about 1"
(2.5cm) or so
through a stitch at 1 corner. Next, pass the ends of
the fringe through this loop, and pull the loop tight
against the scarf edge. Repeat this process at the
other corner of the scarf end.
In the same manner, attach another group of
yarn strands halfway between the 2 corners. You
now have 3 groups of fringe attached. Attach the
remaining 6 groups of yarn strands between the
center and the side edges of the scarf, spacing the
yarn evenly, for a total of 9 sets of fringe attached.
Repeat this process at the other end of the scarf.
