Objectives1. Recognize safety equipment

including fire extinguisher, fire blanket, first aid kit, gas & electrical shut off valves, emergency exits, eye wash, safety shower, and vent hood by identifying the piece of equipment, its location, and its function.

2. Recognize appropriate attire by identifying errors or suggesting remedies for the scenario or picture.

3. Given a scenario, picture or description apply basic lab safety rules by identifying the proper safety method or ethical treatment for the situation.

4. Make wise choices regarding disposal or recycling by identifying the appropriate safety method or disposal technique for the specific example.

anything in the lab without permission .

2. Follow all instructions (both written and teacher given). Be sure to ask questions if you do not understand!! DO NOT conduct any experiment unless you have teacher permission.

3. Keep work area clean and uncluttered. (No backpacks, purses or unnecessary books in lab!)

equipment including: eyewash/safety shower, fire extinguisher and first aid kit. Safety goggles and aprons are required for some labs.

Goggles and aprons should be worn anytime heat, chemicals or glassware are used.

use for chemical splashes; wash for 15-20 min towards outside of eye

• Safety Shower— by back door; use for chemical splashes or to put out fire

by Vent Hood; pull pin, aim towards base of fire, pull trigger

• First Aid Kit—Located next to Vent Hood contains bandaids, burn cream, etc.

to Vent Hood; use to put out small fires or for a person on fire.

• Exits—front and back doors; use closest exit

• Emergency Call Button—located under TV; should only be used if Mr. Campbell is not conscious or he asks you to use it.

Never taste or smell chemicals! Wash hands before leaving lab.

6. Report all accidents and spills to the teacher immediately. This includes broken glass and faulty equipment.

7. Handle all living organisms in an ethical manner. Preserved biological materials are to be treated with respect and disposed of properly!

leaving. You must wait to be dismissed from lab. You will be dismissed when your table is clean.

When EVERYONE at your table is ready to be dismissed, raise your hand. Make sure you push in your chairs!!!!

9. Dispose of lab materials properly. Do not put ANYTHING (except water) in the sinks without prior permission. Broken glass should be thrown away in the broken glass box (not the garbage can).
