We build the laboratories of the future

Governments issue strict safety regulations for laboratories in schools and universities, in trainingand research facilities, in order to protect those who work there and the environment. Laboratoryoperators issue just as strict directives concerning the economic efficiency and functionality of theirlaboratories. Observing all of these requirements while bearing in mind sustainability is the only wayto build a laboratory that is geared both for the present and future.

We have specialised in developing laboratory systems that guarantee the greatest possible securityof investment in terms of safety, sustainability and economic efficiency. In doing so, we always keepthe complete laboratory in mind, offering you the full range of equipment and services – fromdifferent extraction systems to laboratory benches, supply systems, storage space and accessories.Needless to say that we offer – besides standard equipment in standard sizes – laboratory interiorsthat are customised to the last detail. Our range of products and services spans from planning and consultancy to timely assembly and maintenance services.

Benefit from our many years of experience!

Test chamber

Our company is a member of the European Test Labora-tories working group and we test and evaluate our fumecupboards in our own test facilities. Type tests are executedaccording to EN 14175 Part 3 in cooperation with theInstitute for Industrial Aerodynamics at the University of Applied Sciences in Aachen.

Our aero-technological measuring system enables thesimulation of various room air situations and, consequently, perfect adjustment of our fume cupboards to the customer'sspecific work environment. Many customers takeadvantage of the possibility of setting up their own testsituation for selected fume cupboards in our test chamber in order to define the ideal air volume to meet givenrobustness parameters.

Monitoring and control

The fume cupboard, air flow monitoring and control system, room air management and ventilation system are oneinteractive system. In order to set up the optimal interfaceparameters, a governing overall concept is needed. This isthe only way of safely operating a fume cupboard.

In compliance with this aero-technological overall concept,we equip our fume cupboards with air flow controlsaccording to EN 14175 Part 2 or with a constant or variablevolume control system (VAV). Options include theimplementation of an automatically closing front sash. In combination with a variable volume control system thatis connected to the front sash, the exhaust air volume can be drastically reduced.

Fume cupboards are central components in laboratories, and we have designed a variety of cupboard types to suit different applications. These applications place increasingly high demands on the equipment as more andmore laboratory tasks need to be performed in a fume hood due to the rising numbers of hazardous substancesand reagents. Engineering regulation EN 14175 has also set significantly stricter standards.

We provide fume cupboards with standard widths of 1200, 1500, 1800 and 2100 mm. But of course we alsoprovide solutions tailored to your specific needs. To cater for a broad range of applications, we design bench-topfume cupboards, fume cupboards for low rooms or with extra interior height and walk-in fume cupboards.Worktops and interior linings are configured according to the type of tasks to be performed, the gases and liquids used, the vapours and aerosols emitted.

Fume cupboard with Fire Extinguishing System (FES)

FES fume cupboards feature a safety system for preventingfires. These fume cupboards feature an automated fireprevention system, thus allowing for 24-hour or unattendedoperation. The combination of fume cupboard and fireextinguishing system guarantees round-the-clock safety.

The FES system includes a compressed gas generator, thermal and/or optical (UV) fire detector, control devices, optical and acoustic warning devices as well as a push-button for manual activation. In the event of fire, the frontsash is closed and exhaust damper and media supply areshut off. The compressed gas generator is started, argon gasis released via the distribution rail to flood and immediatelyextinguish the fire. At the same time, acoustic and opticalwarning signals are triggered, and information is passed onto the in-house building management system and the firebrigade.

Special fume cupboards according to DIN 12924 Part 2

Special application fume cupboards according to DIN 12924Part 2 are used for open dissociation processes. These fumecupboards feature ceramic or polypropylene lining and arefitted with a main exhaust duct. They are used whenworking with aggressive media such as sulphuric acid, perchloric acid, hydrofluoric acid or aqua regia.

Fume cupboards can be fitted with a gas scrubber toprevent harmful gases leaking into the atmosphere. Theabsorption device operates in fully automatically. Thescrubbing fluid is filled and refilled via a fluid level monitor. The electrical conductivity of the fluid is continuouslymonitored.

Additionally, the system can be augmented by installing awaste water neutralisation unit in the base cabinet toneutralise acidic or alkaline waste waters.

Radioisotope and filter fume cupboards according to DIN 25466

Radioisotope fume cupboards are designed according tothe specifications of DIN 25466, fully compliant with thestrict regulations on radiation protection. Interior lining andworktop are made of stainless steel or polypropylene. Theupper section of the cupboard contains a two-stage filterunit (pre-filter, particle filter). These cupboards can also beequipped with four-fold filtering, consisting of a pre-filter,particle filter, carbon and abraded matter by adding alaterally mounted element.

Legend

By definition, the purpose of a fume cupboard is to prevent gases, fumes or suspended matter fromescaping into the laboratory by means of specific design features and air ducts. They are alsointended to prevent a dangerous explosive atmosphere in the laboratory, and the front sash protectslaboratory staff against a spill of a harmful substance or flying debris or glass splinters. Our provendesigns comply with all these demands and ensure maximum safety in the laboratory.

The standard fume cupboard features melamine interior lining, ceramic worktop, stand mounts andlighting. Electric sockets and services (water, gases, pure gases) are installed according to yourneeds, and base cabinets can be combined as required.

D I Walk-in fume cupboards – Models 1Good visibility into the fume cupboard chamber is essential, particularly when working with tall test set-ups. This modelhas two laterally sliding windows instead of a solid frontpanel, so that personnel can easily reach into the upper partof the fume cupboard.

If the focus is primarily on visibility and being able to reachinto the upper part of the cupboard is of secondaryimportance, this solution with fixed glazing is the economicalsolution.

E I Supportive air flow technology 1Our supportive air flow fume cupboards have two advantages: on the one hand, they reduce yourcarbon footprint; on the other hand, they offer better safety for laboratory personnel.

Their advanced air management system provides increased protection as the supportive air flowsection mounted at the worktop front optimises the exchange of air inside the fume cupboard andincreases the cupboard's stability.

Also, this type of fume cupboard can be operated with reduced exhaust air volumes, whichsignificantly lowers operating cost while improving the laboratory's sustainability. Just like all ourfume cupboards, those using supportive air flow technology are also measured and type tested inour own test chamber.

The modular system allows for virtually endless variations, and the system can be easily adaptedany time. Extending the supports, for instance, will provide space for mounting additional reagentshelves, system shelves or even suspended cabinets. A lateral splash guard made of safety glasswill protect the workplace and any equipment placed near the sink.

C I Laboratory island benches2

Legend

The service spine is the centrepiece of the laboratory island bench. The service spine's supports arefitted with taps, valves, electrical conduits, system shelves and reagent shelves to either side, andworkbenches are placed on both sides of the service spine.

One laboratory bench variant consists of a C-type steel frame and the worktop. Trolley cabinets canbe moved underneath its worktop. Sink units or tables can be added at the ends.

The service spine's support beams can be fitted in variety of ways, e.g. with monitor clamps orworkplace lighting. Extractor hoods and flexible extractor arms can also be mounted.

Frequently, island benches are fitted with suspended taps and valves plus safety glass partitions. Thisprovides a clear view to the opposite workplace and gives the island workbench a more transparentappearance.

E I Desks2

Legend

Increasingly, desk-type workplaces are needed in laboratories to handle documentation and dataprocessing tasks. Usually, these workplaces are located near a window.

Desks consist of a C-type steel frame and a worktop. Trolley cabinets are placed underneath thedesk. Another possibility consists of plinth-based cabinets with a worktop, leaving niches with kneespace for the user to sit at. Electricity is supplied via a wall-mounted electrical conduit or a conduitplaced at the rear of the desk. Cable grommets and venting grids to allow for the circulation ofradiator heat can also be installed.

An overhead service carrier is an energy supply system. It is used when the laboratory design and itsfurnishing need to be variable and easily adaptable to changing layouts. Laboratory furniture can befreely positioned underneath the overhead service carrier and freely re-arranged. Easy access toinstruments, even from behind, is another bonus, which is particularly valuable in analyticallaboratories that use high-end equipment.

The overhead service carrier comes in module lengths of 600, 900, 1200 and 1500 mm and is fittedwith valves for various media, pure gas valves, and electrical components. It is mounted to theceiling using system brackets which enable mounting additional components such as extractionducts, shelves and suspended cabinets.
