OBJECTIVES
• To achieve sufficient supply of competent manpower for the forestry and timber industry to achieve NATIP’s target export of RM53 billion by 2020.
•To harmonise federal and state government policies on
foreign labour.
TARGETS
Dependence on foreign workers in timber industry to reduce by 5% yearly from 2016.
Train 5% more Malaysian skilled work force yearly to enter the timber industry to replace the foreign workers.
Government to expand 10% more yearly vocational institutions student enrolment for timber industry.
To conduct a survey on the number of workers in order to create baseline number for each timber sector by June 2011.
To rebrand the image of timber industry to portray a positive perception to locals by 2016.
