GRAVITY DAM
The gravity dam withstands loads due to its own weight (it is a massive structure).
Gravity provides a stabilizing effect against overturning, as well as a sufficient vertical
load on the contact surface with the rock foundation mass, in order to mobilize the
shear stresses.
