Batangas Province High School for Culture and Arts' students were alarmed after the controversy about the increased risk of brain cancer and other health concerns of avid cellphone users was again at its peak. The Internet was flooded with claims, counterclaims and misinformation about the hazards of too much cellphone using that shocked the BPHSCA studentry.The BPHSCAns who are addicted to intensive cellphone using was very much affected by the spreading rumors. "We are very alarmed about the spreading issues because we are one of the numerous cellphone users around the world," Raizel Ann Manansala, second year student said. The news about the risks of avid cellphone using rocked the whole nation but still there are questions regarding the issue which still cannot be answered.

Is the use of cellular phone safe?

As far as medical investigations are concerned, an investigation is still on going to find out if there is any health risks associated to the use of cellphone but so far it seems to be safe. While there are some concerns that the use of cellular phones might be harmful to users, the final words have not been said yet.

What is the current theory?

It is postulated but not scientifically confirmed, that the frequent and extended use of a cellular phone (where the phone is right at the user's cheek, the earpiece smack against the ear) might be associated with increased incidence of brain cancer.

How could the cellphone cause harm?

The cellular phone antenna is the "probable culprit" in this unconfirmed medical suspicion. It is theorized that the antenna, which receives the electromagnetic waves (EMW) or signals, transmits the same EMW to the brain of the person using the cellular phone, and that these EMW might explain the suspected increase in the incidence of brain cancer among chronic users.

Is one cellular phone worse than the other?

The ones that are with dual band (1800 MHz) are said to be worse than the regular ones with only 900 MHz. obviously, there are other factors like length of exposure and proximity of the cellular phone to the brain.

What other illnesses can cellular phone use cause?

The other condition often mentioned is leukaemia but there is no scientific data to support this at this time.

Are microwave ovens safe?

The normal use of microwave oven is safe, provided the protective shield is not broken. Users are cautioned not to bring their face near the oven door while the oven is on because the microwaves can harm the eyes by premature cataracts.

How about television sets?

Since television sets or computer

monitors also emit some electromagnetic radiation, it is advisable not to go too close to the TV or monitor. The fact that the medical science does not have any evidence that these EMW are harmful does not mean they are totally safe. It is best to be cautious.

Does cellular phone use cause infertility?

There is no factual basis for this concern. There is no reason to believe that infertility or impotence can be caused by the use of cellular phones or having one in a holster by the hip or in a purse.

What is the public to do?

Cellphone is one of the most wonderful devices that man has ever invented and one that is most vital in today's world. Like all other electronic gadgets that make life easier, more comfortable, more secure, more efficient and more productive for the majority of the people around the globe; it's here to stay. While medical controversy rages on, it is prudent for everyone using a cellphone to use the commonsense approach to the situation at hand. Take the necessary precautions on the basis of the suspicion, even before a pending bacterial culture analysis is obtained, and even without a definite proof as yet. It is better to be safe than sorry later. Some precautionary measures we would take are: 1. Limit our use of cell phone to necessary call only. 2. Use text messaging. 3. For calls, use hands-free devices.

The conducted survey asked, “If BPHSCA would to be a certified SPA school, which specialization schedule would you prefer? “Three choices, namely A, B and C were given to choose from. Letter A states the current schedule which is whole day every Friday. Letter B is the new option and the genuine schedule for SPA schools which is to have specialization class every day after classes. Lastly, letter C asks for any other personal ideas that would satisfy the said topic. Out of its population of 128 students, 101 chose option A while 26 prefers to have specialization class after academic classes. And only Grade 7’s Royette Rondilla had a specialization schedule idea of his own. According to him that specialization days should be Mondays and Fridays so that there’s a possible specialization day every day. This may prove that a percentage of the students are eager given the situation of the school. When asked individually why they prefer the school’s original schedule, everyone almost had the same ideas. The 4th year said that they had been used to having specialization classes during Friday and if ever it was to

be changed, most of the girls could only say, “JUN-HA! (nakakaane/irritating)”. This shows from the results of the survey revealing only 3 out of 29 students approving the SPA’s valid specialization schedule. Kristine May Bonsol of VII-Spoliarium, a Visual Artist, said “Mas makakapag-focus po sa gawain kung araw-araw po ang Specialization.” And several 2nd year girls who answered A complained, “Masyado pong busy, haggard at nakakalugaw ng utak kung aaraw-arawin po.” Although choice B is overwhelmed by A by a lot, the few who preferred it still has a say. One of them, Jasper Adonis Villanueva, a second year theater artist, said, “Mas maganda po araw-araw para regular po ang activities at hindi parang putul-putol. ‘Pag ganun po, mas consistent ang improvement.” Even though the polls proved only a little support for this option, it may be an opening to accept this kind of schedule if ever the school was to become officially an SPA type of school. The cultured artists have had their minds spoken. Scholars have given their thoughts. But still, the higher ups are the ones to decide. Before any decision is made, Batangas Province High School for Culture and Arts has to prove itself and become a true and hard-wired SPA-accommodating school.

During the past two weeks, after the heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon and the previous typhoons, ___ cases of Leptospirosis were recorded wherein one of BPHSCA utility men, Tata Hubert became a victim.According to Tata Hubert, he probably acquired the disease when he was cleaning the waterway of the school. Back then, he had an open wound on his leg which he suspected to be infected by contaminated water. He suffered from severe headache, muscle pain and nausea.Consequently, the Department of Education mandated all the officials of each school in the country to conduct an information drive against the said disease. With the validity of DepEd Memorandum Order No. 153 given by Sec. Armin Luistro, school officials and

health/nutrition personnel communicate with the local government officials, parents and community leaders to spread important information on how to avoid water borne diseases.Based on researches, Leptospirosis or Weil’s disease is a bacterial infection due to contact with the urine from animals such as rats, cattles, dogs, horses and even wild animals. There are three ways by which humans acquire his disease; through drinking

contaminated water or eating contaminated food, absorbing it through skin cuts or open wounds or absorbing it through the various mucus membranes.Leptospirosis symptoms do not immediately manifest. There is what called incubation period which can range anywhere from 3 to 21 days, with most cases, manifesting symptoms after3 to 14 days. Once the incubation period ends, Leptospirosis symptoms suddenly start. First symptoms

may be anywhere from severe headache, redness in the eyes, pain in the muscles, fatigue and nausea and a high fever (bout 39 deg. C or 102 deg. F) or all of them. Vomiting may also be present due to the nausea while a rapid pulse may also be detected during the first few days.After a few days, rashes may come out. Sometimes, this can be itchy. However, note that rashes are not that common so the lack of rashes does not necessarily mean that there is no Leptospirosis. Patient may also feel depressed or confused or psychotic and some may even become violent.These cases are expected to rise within the coming weeks or even months as reports from other regions and provinces are expected to come in and to be consolidated by the Department of Health. The situation was further aggravated when it was

reported that the medicines used to treat Leptospirosis are rapidly being consumed and may run out in the days to come.

This issue has been rumoured out by folks all over Bauan, San Pascual and even by the neighbouring towns for almost 5 decades. To fix the miscue about the boundaries of their municipalities after forty-two long years, one amicable settlement was finally signed by Bauan Mayor Ryanh Dolor and San Pascual Mayor Antonio Dimayuga at the Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SG) of Batangas on September 3. The SG, being Administrative Court having quasijuducial powers to give its views about the issue that sprouted last 1969 made by the congress of San Pascual but made a huge misunderstanding regarding their boundaries. A lot of thanks were given by Mayor Dolor and Dimayuga to Gov. Vilma Santos Recto, Vice Gov. Mark Leviste and the Sanguniang Panlalawigan members for they adjourned a meeting after the memorandum was signed. The municipality of Bauan will remain having their business buildings while San Pascual will now own the 4.9 hectares Perocarel or called Tramo. "It was a great honor that under my governance I was able to close the issue regarding our real boundaries, “ Mayor Dolor said while Mayor Dimayuga thanked the municipality of Bauan for giving them a part of their land that will be a great help in regards to San Pascual's taxes issues.

BPHSCA learning facilities extend In accordance to the celebration of Batangas Province High School for Culture and Arts' 10th year of excellence, another heart project was made. A new building beside the BPHSCA community was being built up since the second week of May, 2012, sponsored by Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto, in order to provide the students enough rooms and facilities necessary in gaining good quality of education. BPHSCA school facilities are already high ventilated according to the faculty members, but they still expect for progression and larger space for learning and to reside, since the current school building is already composed of the office, classrooms and the dormitory. The said building costs P14M, making BPHSCA expectations go high. Within this budget is the providing of the 24 construction workers' salary plus the materials for the said project. "The construction of the building would likely be finished at the last week of October, and might be used at the month of November," said the foreman, Mr. Rodolfo Dimaandal. The new building is consisted of six rooms, enough to supply students' necessities for a higher education, especially the implementation of K-12 Curriculum.

She added also that she will be materializing a project that aims to help the less-fortunate children and government to eradicate or minimize the large number of child labor in the country. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) targets to make 80 barangays child labor free nationwide by the end of the year in response for their agenda to reduce the 3,000,000 child workers the country has. “The target is 80 barangays for this year and those numbers will help the DOLE and the local government units also craft their plans and policies for making the particular barangay child labor-free,” Abigail Valte, DOLE spokesperson said.

Lacson also said many of those given franchises by PCSO to operate STL that were used as dummies of big gambling lords, whom he did not identify . He also added that jueteng operators use the STL identification cards issued by the PCSO in order to evade arrest--a modus operandi that Bartolome raised to explain why the PNP has found it hard to eradicate jueteng. On the other hand, the government was determined to eradicate jueteng as well as pull the plug on the state-run STL which has been used as front of the illegal numbers game as said by President Benigno Aquino (PNOY). The president said that he expects incoming Interior and Local government Secretary Manuel Roxas II to finalize the 'comprehensive' master plan against jueteng and illegal number games left by the late Sec. Jesse Robredo. The anti-jueteng initiative includes the replacement of the STL as well as review of the STL contracts . PNOY also said that he expects the DILG to work with Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., the PCSO and the Department of justice on the comprehensive plan against jueteng. Although the government is eager to eradicate the STL cover ups, still it was STL IDs from the PCSO the operators are showing which handicaps the police as said by Senator Lacson. Lacson also suggests that the only way to stop jueteng and any illegal number games is to treat jueteng activities like any other illegal activity such as murder, homicide, and robbery, but still he insists that if police officers get monthly payola from jueteng lords, they will really close their eyes to them and not make any arrest.

The Ten Years of Existence of BPHSCA

Three plus one for the Road Statistics show that the cases of accidents mostly happened on the streets. It is quite alarming in the sense that the said observation is not limited to Metropolis but extends and beyond. The road safety has been issue for a long period. In the advent of middleclass, the situation becomes worst, because of the vehicles that doubled or tripled or more the number that regularly occupying roads and streets that still on their same size before. Agreed with this aphorism; No one can change your destiny; when your time has come, that’s your time. Yet, It doesn’t mean that you let such destiny rule and manage your whole life, despoil the enjoyment of being alive and healthy besides, there are so-called precautions made by experts and the public servants that promised us to make this country a perfect place to live at. Let us help and give them the chance to prove their worth. And for us to do our part to enjoy life the safety way. Being well-travelled, this could be an edge compared to those who prefer to stay home or haven’t been given chances or opportunity to do so. On the other hand, travelling does not require things as to the first mentioned. This is normal, regular and required to every individual who works at a certain distance. Since the objective of commuters, motorists seems the same- to come earlier, to avoid traffic, to rescue something, etc., for that, road safety is at risks. Along the highway handling a bunch of trials and finding ideal ways on a lane is not that tough thing in everywhere we go, neither nearby nor far places we wanted. It only depends on how we manage ourselves along the road and portray different characteristic for being wise enough from

many things happening. Accidents follow stubborn people that never thought of wise deeds while travelling and certain person that never along with the rules and regulations. Those people do not prove that they are clever enough in all aspect of road safety but in a side that being reckless in a way they knew all things that might happen. Driving with perfect care, merely prevent road disasters especially hardworking drivers carrying pots of passengers and bus drivers of an educational tour together with abundant number of students and teachers. As people go through in these things, they perish their lives to them expecting the safety of everyone until their travel ends. When yellow light shined and appeared to the naked of most, followed by the seconds of green and ended with a red signal of stop, everyone should be aware of the things for the pledge of placid travelling.Traffic rules and every command of road enforcers should always be observed. Youth’s maturity of mind is needed for the ordinance of street. Obey all regulations to prevent violations and accidents. Everyone’s presence of mind forms vivid conclusions managing themselves leading to a perfect handling of things. Age does not matter as long as one has desire to explore life through travelling. Destiny could be part of culture yet safety on roads could be controlled if the one who handles it is open to all possibilities that could bring him to a more accident-free situation. The old sign STOP, LOOK and LISTEN should be everyone’s prescription but more on traffic authorities, motorists, commuters and passers-by.

A seed germinates to a tree. A strong and stiff tree. Through years that tree has developed to a better and much efficient fruit bearer. BPHSCA, like the tree has evolved and improved through years, now, after 10 memorable and significant years, here is BPHSCA, standing still, its days of Excellence, and Existence. The year 2002 is the year when BPHSCA started. From a small room out of another public high school, it is where the school started. Planned by the present government during that time lead by Gov. Mandanas, the days of Culture and Arts started. BPHSCA did not grow with ease, but instead, it brawled against hurdles and obstacles. The process of cultivating Culture and Arts

passed through experiments to solve the equation tying its feet to the ground prohibiting its clearance from the mud and preventing its soar through the sky.

Presumptions and check, trial and error, the program went that absurd for years trying to have the perfect system suiting up the needs and desire of cultured artists. The process has been tough and seems to be endless, but moreover it has been painful. Building the school literally was arduous, but the challenges that came really hurt the school and the artist here. Sweat and blood were clinched from the mind and from the flesh of everyone involved making the school better. Too many sacrifices were poured and tears fall down. Trails and problems devastated our morale and break us to pieces but after the rain, we always know how to recollect and start building from the beginning. Dark days passed BPHSCA and we fall down too many times. We got wounded and hurt. We feel the pain and we’ve got the worst but after all that, we’ve learned. We now knew that our eyes were just closed and all we have to do is open our eyes to see the world, to see the brightness. Ten years have passed and BPHSCA had overcome those moments and it has passed the dark days, the worst days and the painful days. Now, it is facing east where the sun rises, where brightness begins, and where light comes. It now has the formula hopefully ending the quentabeho days, easing up all problems, and giving triumph to the school and the province. The process is called learning. This is what BPHSCA has applied through years and hopefully, 2012 is the year we can finally say, “We’re on our feet stronger and stiffer like the tree, ready to face anything for we have everything.” BPHSCA, Lubos kang dakila!

The gospel tin this issue is about forming attitudes toward life that represent a fundamental break with the way that we usually think, feel, and act in the world. So these are the things that Jesus calls us to, and these are the qualities of Jesus’ followers: poverty, vulnerability, gentleness, justice, mercy, dedication, harmony, conviction, and witness.

Rushed and excited, I’ve been doing my finishing touches to my painting on canvass that needed to finish before the end of second grading. As I stroke my art brush on it, daydreaming works with me, mesmerizing the talent and opportunity that I have now. Thanking to God, admiring the people who share knowledge and expertise. How noble! How great! And before that moment ends, one question strikes on my mind that made me silent and bothered, “How do I give back all of these?” Sunday morning at 10 o’ clock in the morning. I turned on the television set, expecting something strange episode would be shown by Kuya Kim in Matanglawin, and to my surprize, he featured the sensational 3D painting, of course, my excitement couldn’t hide for I am also artist in my own way. As the show went on , faces of familiar guys flashed on the screen like Jordan Neil Dinglasan and Joel Chavez, Yes, they were graduates of BPHSCA. Happy to see them that they are now successful in their chosen field. I’ve learned also that prior to this program, they were featured in a morning show”Umagang Kay Ganda” a month ago. In addition, Jordan and Joel are pioneer members of GUHIT ARTIST INC., a newly-formed group that created the well-admired 3D painting in Ocean Park at the Roxas Boulevard and the series of speaking engagements before artists audience in several occasions. Another interesting fact, Do you know that Joel Chavez won in the contest launched by Selecta Ice Cream, and his winning design was used in the Selecta Ice cream Holiday season label that year? Well, one time I read Joel’s post on FB, he shouts” Sinong maysabi na walang pera sa arts?” obviously, Joel had enjoyed the prize received, More on Visual artists, Take this forecast, Sir KRISTIAN DELA VEGA, now a secondary school teacher will be the Maestro Virtuoso in visual arts, music, and many more. Wazz up, to his schoolmates, dubbed as multi-talented artist during his high school years and today, the best artist ever produced by the school. A Salute to Educators

It really was a tragic event for the whole province for four teachers in uniform were reported dead caused by a flashflood in the fateful night of October 10 in the far-flung barangay of Lobo, 5 days after the province celebrated the world teacher’s day . Before the tragedy happened, those teachers were part of the worldwide celebration for teachers and their sacrifices to raise generations that would uplift the country. Before their time ends, they even had the fortitude to reminisce the might of being teachers. They still had a few time to feel their importance to the society and their worth for building the future. Teachers really make all professions possible. They effort for giving the education that the children need for them to use in facing their future endeavors. Teachers really are the mightiest of all, but still they weren’t given the right salute that they deserve, the right respect they must have, but those rights aren’t given nor felt by the living heroes , what about those already in the graves? A salute event for teachers was thrown for a day by their sacrifices can’t be measured even for a life time. They welfare children, they guide them to be better people, they teach them everything that they would need to face and conquer the world, but still their great effort was unnoticed. Unlike politicians, actors and actress, engineers, and doctors, teachers are the underdog among all those professions. They are the most hardworking among all of those for

they make possible of everything, but still they are not given the importance and praise that they deserve. Still, there is time for the image of teachers to be cultivated and to be uplifted. There are still days to give them the honor and the glory that they deserve. There are still hours to make them feel special and important. Not just a single day, not just minutes and hours, but still there is eternity. There is still a long of time to let them feel special and let them feel significant. Everyday a teacher goes to school, she has her load of bag, lesson plan and teaching paraphernalia, but the heaviest load that she brings is the hopes and dreams of students, the children’s future. They hold in their hands the key to every child’s future, to every child’s dream, to every child’s success. Being teachers is the most critical profession for they hold the key to triumph, the key to cloud nine so it is only a must to let them feel distinct, to let them be special. For the enormous responsibility bestowed on their shoulders, no one can ever take their role, bit everyone can help. Everyone can keep them strong by belief, support, and respect. It is everyone’s duty is to keep teachers in high spirits in the simplest way they can. It is to delight teachers and let them feel contented living being teachers which they will bring inside the classroom or even into the other world when everything is done for they’ve fulfilled their duties and responsibilities.

We are living in a democratic state. We must live with its benefits.Freedom of information (FOI) bill advocates the transparency in government and is guided by the principle of honest and maximum disclosure of state-controlled information that should be explicitly defined, for this said bill could help avoid social and political ill such as corruption and environmental degradation. During the impeachment trial of the former Chief Justice Renato Corona, the issue about the Statement of Assets Liabilities and Net worth’s’ (SALN) public declaration was the most controversial part. SALN provides information regarding the assets, debts and loans of the government officials, but it does not have the control to provide all the information, since there is a law not to publicize dollar accounts. Like what Sen. Peter Cayetano said, “Technicalities should protect the rights of people, and I do not blame this court for sticking to technicalities because this is supposed to protect the rights of the people. But, somehow in this country, it is being used to protect people who plunder this country.” And this is the main reason why the members of the Philippine Senate advocate this said FOI Bill—to assure the reliability of their wealth and assets. Officials from any government sectors would be much aware and responsible on their actions with regards on earning such wealth, for they know that if they will do such actions that are against the law, they could be easily proven at fault, because their assets are a lot more transparent and are always open in any kind of legal investigations. Simply, Freedom on Information Bill could help ease the problem of corruption. Same thing in schools. There are some people who tend to complain a lot regarding financial aspects. For the solution, students and parents are given the privilege to get informed where every peso asked to be contributed in any occasions and special agendas are utilized. It is being prepared by the organizations concern. Lists of the total contributions and the total expenses are being posted on bulletin boards, for it to be visible for them. In some PTA meetings, it is presented through powerpoint presentations and simple discussions. It is in fact, a responsibility to be much open in terms of financial phase, moreover, to avoid malicious thoughts and flawed questions against the PTA officers and the institution. On Culture and Heritage Normal and casual that the old ones are wiped out and washed away simply to give way to the new ones. For those who belong to the so-called ultramodern thinking, things of the past are just product of sentiments for nothing, so naïve, so outworn, so obsolete that no use at all today. And that is only to them.But not to the majority of Batangueno. Well- pronounced in every corner of the country that the province is blessed with rich culture; from its peculiar accent in speaking the native language, gallantry, productiveness, and world-acclaimed products. Aside from that, who can forget our patriots in their roles in bringing and restoring back the freedom we’ve enjoyed, statesmen in their brilliant ideas and proficiency that stabled our democracy, the artists in their classic pieces that interpret the passivity of our lowly fellowmen and the new generation Batanguenos who have been making names in their chosen fields? And the least in the list are the historical spots and sceneries; man-made and natural that has been subject in almost all discussion of those travel enthusiasts. And for that, my humble being will be shouting for protest when an offense across at its sanctuary and blaspheme its sanctity. When CALABARZON was born, the acrostic name brought in numerous notions; assumptions and interpretations that it would be the saving boat to rescue the entire country from its sinking. And be proud of considering Batangas for ‘BA’ as the heart of Region 4-A for the port of the province would operate competitively and eventually become international port that will place Batangas province in the status of being first in the whole country. Obviously, all of those have happened. On that occasion, I can’t help remembering a certain line from a Tagalog song, that goes like this”.. Hindi masama ang pag-unlad at malayo-layo na rin ang ating narating…” _____ from the context itself, it implies that the next line connotes somewhat negative. The bottom line is, how do we pay the prize? In enjoying what we have today has the equivalent sacrifice that we have to give. Thus, whether you like this or else, the identity of the province together with its people has been corrupted, little by little. In a way that things happened unnoticed or in a very subtle manner by the power of the directives, rationales, justifications which created, voted, insisted by certain crafty men in every department. Take the following cases; a century old tree cut down for… on that area will rise a new…., the façade of the old national building will change into… for the new public official is an engineer or an architect… old landmark will be ruined down to build a new landmark… the GABALDON building which is the citadel of education will be ruined down again… for it’s no longer safe for the students accordingly… And allowing new establishments like cockpit arenas, night spots etc. because they generate incomes. Allowing giant food chains to dominate the towns for the belief that having such establishments is the proof of progress which is indeed un true and letting the smalltime entrepreneurs to suffer from business stiff competition, and the worst the native or local products set aside and in the market.Normal and casual that the old ones are wiped out and washed away simply to give way for the new ones. If such mentality reigns, and if those culture-heritage saboteurs rule, one morning, we’ll be awaken up blind, for we don’ see the right path, amnesiac, for we don’t know who we are and nobody, for we don’t have own identity.

K to 12Talking about K to 12 program, the possible principal thought that someone would be thinking is simply progression, as well as a total amendment in Philippine educational system. In the school year 2012-2013, a new batch of thirty-four students had shown up in the BPHSCA family picture. They were the first set of freshmen to undergo the K to 12 curriculums and to be called as the Grade 7’s. It is a great privilege for them, for the distinct program is way better than the previous, as others commented. Philippines is the only one in Asia and one of the only three countries in the world with ten-year basic education cycle. In unfortunate fact, other countries view the program as insufficient, which is what we have for the past several years. It seems so disappointing from the certainty that Filipino graduates did not acquire the most excellent education which we can possibly gain. On top of that, other Overseas Filipino Workers are not automatically recognized as professionals in other countries because ten-year education for them isn’t enough. Furthermore, the K to 12 program is a great help for many people. It offers more balanced tactic to learning that will allow children to master lifelong learning skills for the 21st century. Aside from that, it will help freeing parents from the burden of having to spend for college just to make their children employable. A student who completes k to 12 will be equipped with skills, competencies, and recognize certificates equivalent

to a two-year college degree. According to Mr. Ryan de Mesa, grade 7 adviser , the certain program is acceptable, especially because of its convenience to students, parents, and the country. However, the grading system would be the problem. As planned, the supposed grades of the K to 12 students are symbols of letters A, (reflects as the highest grade) P, (set as the second highest) B (as the lowest). Contrary with what Luistro had said previously that the grading system would help lessen the focus on competition and focus more on achieving standards in learning, Mr. de Mesa commented that if this will be the format of grading system, we may find difficult of having the rank of students. Meanwhile, parents and students, especially who are those grade conscious would give heaps of complains about their grades status, Sir de Mesa added. Having the brackets for the numerical grades and to be given as such counted letters in the report cards will be more troubling. Since there are exactly just five letters, there are possibilities that the grades of many pupils will seem identical. In that case, many of them would likely to complain about the ranking since the grades were just the same. For the most part, the program is a substantial advantage for the whole. K to 12 basic education is an international standard of education that our graduates should acquire. Apart from that, grading system should remain like the traditional grading with numerical symbols in able, mainly in the student rank, to evade from confusions.

Missing Link Spotted Something as essential as that must never been taken for granted. For many years, pupils got used to the system of education, wherein Filipino is used as the medium of instruction. There’s no problem with that – or let’s just say, there’s no

problem as long as you grow or live in the city or somewhere in Tagalog Region. There’s no need to strive and to study a Mother tongue. But how about the various ethnic groups? Most likely, a native speaker as young as seven would not be able to use Filipino in normal conversations; they will naturally speak their dialect. It is indeed a good thing that as the k-12 system was introduced, Article XIV, Section 7 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution mandates regional languages to be used as medium of instruction. Primary students from different provinces were being taught using their dialects. For an instance, mathematics is being taught for the first grade using Filipino. Being a grade 7 student is definitely a great adjustment in our part. As we all know, K to 12 is the newest curriculum DepEd had been improvised. Since we enroll here at BPHSCA which implements special curriculum for the arts, it is quite hard to perform well in both aspects. But as days, weeks and months continue to pass; we eventually realized how lucky we are for having such teachers. Teachers that always remind us that we have our own strengths, but yet we are quite reluctant to showcase it. In addition to this, we are very thankful for they work really hard not only as our mentors but also one of our reliable guiders. They enhance our skills and talents, and also guide our pen on how we are going to act and to speak because as they always remind us, our attitude is the number one thing that will bring us to the right path towards our goal in life. TV for Better Progression, Not Distraction

T h e National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT), an attached agency of the Department of Education was created to promote and encourage the production and broadcast of programs to develop Filipino children’s critical thinking, communication skills, moral values and as well as strong sense of national identity. It ensures that all TV program are child-friendly and informative. The NCCT believes that children deserve to be heard because their opinions are truly essential and relevant. And in an effort to get an opinion regarding the current state of television, the NCCT staged an interactive dialogue forum with the theme “Bata Ako, May Tinig Ako” which aims to enlighten everyone about children’s true desires and dislikes on television. 20 selected students from ages 9-16 are invited. It was executed last March 9, 2012, Friday, at exactly 1 in the afternoon at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Complex in Ortigas, Pasig City. It was attended by some various personalities such as Government Officials, Legislators, TV Executives and Media of course. Actress and mother, Mikee Cojuangco also attended the forum wherein she shared her own thoughts regarding kid’s viewing habits. Meanwhile, Jasper Adonis Villanueva, one of the students and scholars of Batangas Province High School for Culture and Arts also witnessed and perceived the said event. Through this outstanding forum, children now are heard for they had spoken out. Everything begins at home. Even we keep showing good values on TV but these aren’t clear to kids, nothing will change. So before we talk about educating the kids, we should first educate the parents. As we all know, parents have the responsibility of molding their child into a much better individual. It is their prerogative to teach their children the realities of life and how to be a good citizen of this nation. However, due to the advent of technological breakthroughs and the endless evolving world of media, the parent’s role to their children begin to widen. Parents should be the one to choose and decide what their kids should watch. They also have to be around to make sure that they were able to answer the questions that their children may ask. It is not the TV that dictates what kind of shows viewers should watch. It’s the viewers themselves who decide. The NCCT’s main purpose on appraising each TV shows and programs is not to tell the networks that they are producing bad shows but its objective is to point out what these shows lack and find a way to provide it. Not everything on TV is lousy. But, the shows need to inject more educational values for young viewers. It is said that balance is the key to create a values-laden show that rates well. Moreover, it is not that required that a certain show must have all the positive ideas and message because negativity will balance the program above all. Just make sure that later on, the positive values will prevail. TV is still the most widely used source of entertainment among Filipino children. It is a good thing that NCCT with the Secretary of the Department of Education, Armin Luistro promotes positive TV programming that emphasizes ‘edutainment’ or programs that produce both educational and entertainment values to children. Television must increasingly become the most reliable source of knowledge and facts among Filipino children, and not a distraction.

They were divided into four groups to represent the views and various sectors of the society. The first one, which were portrayed by the Overseas Filipino workers, stated that even job

Behind the skin that was furrowed by time, bones that was weakened by countless difficulties, and senses that was dented by intricacies…a radiant smile can be seen on their faces. It was too fulfilling to see that curve that symbolizes joy. It made me think of what made them look like free from those mind-aching problems that life gives. Upon having a conversation to some of them- even to my grandparents of course, I understand why they are not even wondering about their everyday life despite the fact that they are supported by some of their offspring. The privilege given to them is one of the reasons why they are still having the courage to contribute in the world’s progress- -and that’s a good thing we should be grateful of. The Republic Act No. 7432, as amended by Republic Act No. 9257, otherwise known as the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003”, stated the privileges for the seniors where they should be entitled. It includes different actions in terms of employment, education, health, social services, housing, access to public transport, incentive for foster care, and additional government assistance. Upon discussing this with the other scholars in BPHSCA, It ends up in one conclusion: Seniors are unpredictable. They are further up the ladder- too sensitive, too frail. Being a burden in this world is what they always think of! How can they go on with the life’s course if they are extremely pessimistic? How can they be in high-spirits? How can they enjoy life’s pleasure?What they need is attention, care, and love. What they wish for is to feel that their worth never fades. And now, what we have to do is to carry out or accomplish what they ask for. In giving honour to our beloved senior citizens, ESCA (Expanded Senior Citizens Act) can really help. It adopts measures whereby elders are assisted and appreciated by the community as a whole, establish mechanisms whereby the contributions of them are maximized make programs beneficial to them and set up community-based health and rehabilitation programs in every political unit of the society. They really don’t stop constructing and implementing actions or laws that will be for the sake of the seniors. One of these is the more obliging and beneficial “ESCA OF 2010” wherein they’ve decided to intensify their assistance to them. They provide a monthly stipend worth Php. 500 and Php. 1500 for those indigents. A 20% discount and exemption from the value-added-tax on the sale of goods and services (medicines, medical fees, transport fees, admission fees on theatre and other place of leisure) are given to them. They also execute a free vaccination against influenza virus to secure their health. Also stated in the law is the five-per cent discount on water bills (if consumption is less than 30 cubic meters a month) and electric bills (if consumption is less than 100 kilowatt-hours) that will be granted to the poor. To avail themselves of benefits, senior citizens should only present their passport or other documents establishing their citizenship and age. Advantageous! This is the only word that the scholars uttered. Such things do not only help those seniors but instead, change the direction of their lives. For those who are not given attention, it encourages their families and communities where they live in to reaffirm the Filipino tradition of caring for them. It also gives full support to the improvement of the total well-being of the elderly and their full participation in society; motivates and encourages them to contribute to nation building, and provides health care to foster their capacity to attain more meaningful and productive ageing.

Imagine life without the technology around us. A day without laptop, a week without Internet, or a month without using any appliance or gadget. How hard life would be. It all started when humans first invented fire. From that moment, little by little their ample minds began to think big and intricately. As their intellect grows further their vivid ideas put to work gave birth to the thing we call now as technology. Technology plays vital role in our daily lives. Some may only see technology as the computers and internet used to have fun but the truth is technology is much more than that. Technology was created to make people’s life easy and convenient in many different ways. As a student, technology helps me a lot. In doing researches, if a school’s library is outdated or lacking in a selection of titles, a student might find it difficult to compile the necessary research for an essay or research paper. As long as the school has a computer lab, students will be able to use the Internet and digital encyclopedias to their own convenience to obtain the information they need. While students should be wary of the legitimacy of some of the content they read online, some schools uses software like Encyclopedia Brittanica and the like to help students do the research. In younger grades, teachers expose children to computers through educational games. Instead of playing traditional board games that focus

on education, students can learn the basics of spelling, counting and many other educational lessons through computer games that make learning easy and at the same time fun. Technology also made Distance Education possible. In the past, some students might travel kilometers to continue their education which is such a hassle. Now, through the help of technology, after enrolling in a course of the student’s choice he can attend classes via Internet. The student would receive course documents in mail and would be required to mail his assignments to his teacher at the institution. The process can be long and complicated, but thanks to technology students can continue their education through the Internet with ease. However, technology when used on education may have some bad effects too. Because of the convenience that technology offers, some students don’t bother making effort in answering assignments and making reports. They’ll just use their laptops and grab everything they see from the Internet without bothering to search for other sources such as books. While our minds are still progressing and brilliant ideas still emerge, technology at the same time evolves further opening doors to opportunities to give us more help and convenience to many things such as education. We should just keep in mind to use it wisely, that thing called Technology.

On the other hand, a mid-aged woman regularly comes to school for her once-a week catechism class.The aforementioned scenario in school is simply manifestation that religion has been part of our being and it is inseparable with our culture. Religiosity in Batangas is seen through centuries old basilicas and cathedrals. Some supernatural occurrence had been happened here, draws fanatics and devout pilgrims to come over here. The alleged, Mary’s apparition is claimed authentic yet the case has undergone studying. On the other hand, something better takes place, it generates more income. PHSCA, undeniably, it is expected that the scholars here should be spirituals if not religious. Though, there’s no particular subject

for that, the sound values and piety is integrated in all discipline. So far, what has been transpired from it is now reflected in the activities that balance to their tremendous schedules, projects, etc. Every Third Friday of the month, The Holy Mass is said before catholic students, a rosary recitation before the image of Blessed Mother every 5pm which is well- attended by grade 7 and second year and few from higher year is an assembly to attend to. The catechism class is open to all every Thursday. From teachers’ observation, the said religious activities help them in molding morals of the students, by reading Word of God; at least, they would become familiar with God’s teaching. For this, It is not hard to conclude that, today’s generation artists are conservative enough to understand that the presence of Supreme being has been living to every one of us and the talent they have is a gift and blessing that need to thank for.

Indeed honesty is the major element of a harmonious and austere lifestyle. Of the different features of life, honesty has various characters depending on how it is utilized and how it is expressed on different instances. One example is loyalty which is commonly used in love. Love is an effective instrument for synchronizing a family, relationship, etc. which proves that honesty is the core of all well-beings regarding moral, spiritual, intellectual aspects. Contradictory to this, dishonesty arises. However, it can be used as a tool for change. An old fairy tale which most of the folks are so much accustomed to is way too similar with this issue, Pinocchio. It can be clearly concluded from the story itself that dishonesty can do no good as it brings some unexpected and unendurable outcomes and consequences which one may suffer. From the story, Pinocchio’s nose is absurdly extending as a payback for his most consequential act – dishonesty. And as for the scholars here in the small but with a very big foundation building of BPHSCA, a narrative report is written. As long as they do unfavorable acts, more and more narrative reports will be written and when it reached the boundary, it then calls for the hardest thing for the students to do – expulsion. Pinocchio’s attitude is somehow related to some of the school’s depressing scenarios such as theft and solidarity against authority that leads to dishonesty. Yet, the school is so much aware of what it could beget not only in the school’s reputation but also for the students future mores. They simply believed that prevention is better than cure. It then gave birth for the expulsion. Though it is said earlier that this is unfavorable, it will just serve as a lesson or an eye-opener that what an exceptional opportunity it is that one has lost. Let’s just not rely on some fictional characters and occult entities because it really is about actual life. Taking it over to the real world will extract several social spheres which government always comes first. Government officials are ought to be as honest as they can for that is their pledge and that is what the public assumes about them upon elections. There are some rumors that even how prosperous a social system is, yet idiosyncratic; it is not won mostly by hard work. Instead, hard work and theft. Corruption is the apt term in politics. Those officials are those who knew that politics is only a matter of convictions regardless of what it really is. Dishonesty is the brother of theft. On top of these is the rising case of poverty. Little cracks on the wall formed by time. Bright colors of paint that faded. Droplets of water coming from the faucet that can be counted by the hands. Different patterns on the ceiling brought by rains. Words and phrases that were written everywhere especially on the walls. Torn cloths that were once used as room decorations and an image of an old building, a lonely and ordinary building built for a special purpose. Those things reminded me of my dear alma mater, Batangas Province High School for Culture and Arts. As a student of this institution, I know and I observe things like these, kinds of negativities. What I’ve seen are lads that show no respect to the school, to its facilities and rules, but those were just the before, which means a change has already been done. It was a year ago when a development in this school happened. It was good news that you can see every one of us wearing a big smile on our faces. Although there were problems regarding the classes, the result was indeed a great one. No more patterns on the ceiling, it is now good to sleep as you face it. No more cloths upon the walls, just cleanliness. No more cracks, no more marks of vandalism, no more, no more.

As my day started with a Monday having new life of being independent, a Tuesday being clever facing others act, a Wednesday being sufficient dealing with the attitudes of most, a Thursday of being zest concluding all the things I’ve encountered, and Friday ending the whole week being a serpent best for taking righteous path in high school life. Since the first year of our schooling, I also noticed that she is not that independent one in many things, major in decision making of rights and wrongs. But still, she’s trying to adjust to the people surrounding her with undaunted hearts and probably recognizing the maturity of a certain girl in all aspects. She also suffers in such trial in life for having a comparison between her sisters that makes her pressure in studying. In every angle, they always seemed to be judge that sometimes led her to cram and focus only in studying.

On the other hand, for being well-raised daughter, she’s one of the youth’s bet. As she stated that, “No matter the world fools me, I will still stand freezing in the cold blizzards of circumstances and be a responsible girl to be my family’s pride”. Fliptop is a balagtasan-style which is very famous in the Philippines. It relives the dying culture of balagtasan here in our country. Like in a typical balagtasan format, there are two contrasting sides that state their opposing idea or opinion to each other, and the one who serves as the referee or the Lakandula. Fliptop Battle League is the first Filipino Rap Battle League and it houses an English and Filipino Conference. It is currently branched out into several divisions; Metro Manila Division, Mindanao Division, Calabarzon Division and Cultural Luzon Division. Founded on February 6, 2010 by Aric Yuson, also known as The Anygma of Fliptop, the modern Lakandula. Fliptop gained prominence through Video-sharing site YouTube. As of November 2011, all videos on its official YouTube account “fliptopbattle” gained 107

million views and are the third most viewed and sixth most subscribed channel in the Philippines. That’s how Filipinos embraced the newborn culture of the so-called “modern balagtasan”. Through it has an English-language conference, the Fliptop battles are popular for its use of Filipino in its’ lyrics. Though delivered in freestyle and acapela, lyrics are loosely structured and rhythmic. But unlike the old balagtasan, Fliptop lyrics are commonly spiced with Filipino vulgar and cuss words since, like most rap battles in other countries, the common aim between competing Fliptop rappers is to debunk each others’ notions through insults and expletives. As such, according to a blog entry, the Fliptop space is not

immune from homophobe, sexist, or racial punch lines. Here are some examples of Fliptop Lines:“Parinig naman ng rap mo, sample naman jan. Ang ganda naman ng cap mo, arbor na lang yan. Ang yabang mo naman! Wala ka bang kanta na bago? Bakit wala kang battle? Takot ka bang matalo? Among the prominent Fliptop rappers is “Loonie” (Marlon Peroramas), who was known as the Emperor of Filipino Rap Battle. Nowadays, many teenagers were hooked by the charm of Fliptop. They even make their own videos of fliptop battles and uploaded those in YouTube, dreaming that someday they will become one of the great fliptop rappers and be recognized by their idols. The society does not see Fliptop as an illegal act; it is a form of entertainment, a new trend of Filipino culture. From balagtasan to fliptop, yes, it’s true that we, Filipinos have a very colorful minds, we find ways to make our own culture lasts, something that everyone in this new generation can cope up with. That’s why we have it now. That’s why the Fliptop Rises.

It is the home of the delicious Maliputo and on its river banks was where Juan Maningcad found the ever-dearest statuette of the Virgen de Caysasay. Last is the Ruins of the Old Taal Church. The first Taal Church was built in 1575 under the direction of the Augustinian Friar, Fr. Diego Espina. It was made out of coral block stones. The church crumbled down and was left into ruins when Taal Volcano erupted in 1754. Other attractions include: the Maliputo Festival (every August 9) – a festivity that highlights a massive street dance parade showcasing the different concepts and themes of the Maliputo Fish. Bankaton Festival, on the other hand, is an event in honor of the town’s patron saint, San Nicolas de Tolentino. It is a celebration that features boat race among the towns’ men and a fluvial parade. Paltry yet competitive, that’s what San Nicolas is. At the same time, it resembles the characteristics of an oil painting in canvas, simply because its beauty could last a long time. This desert is the so called “TABLIYA”.Tablea is the Spanish word for tablet and Tsokolate is the Filipino word for chocolate so the direct translation for TableaTsokolate is Chocolate Tablet.The Philippines was under Spanish colonial rule for more than 300 years (1521-1899) and it was during this period that Filipinos learned to grow cacao trees and produce these tablets especially here in Batangas. Tabliya has been famous around the province and all over the Philippines because of its unique taste that will tickle your mind every time you eat them. You will wonder why it looks and taste like that, it is somehow bitter but its sweetness will still arouse. It is famous for being the main ingredient in champorado; tabliya when boiled with water becomes a yummy chocolate drink or can be eaten directly for a desert. Surely, you will crave for another one.The Filipino tablea is made from locally grown cacao beans and comes in many forms - balls, thick flat discs or even in squares but the discs and balls are the most commonly found in our local groceries and gourmet establishments. Abroad, Tablea can be found in any Filipino specialty store. I’ve arranged an interview with a man named Meynard Bayanin who is famous in making tabliya for around 23 years. He profited 500 pesos per day for just 5 hours of making tabliya. Curiosity enters my mind so I ask the process of making the home made tabliya, and he gave me this recipe.

Procedure:1. Separate the appropriate beans from the bad ones by “Pagtatahip”2. Wash the beans then soak it in the water for 5 minutes.3. Roast it in dry pan for 1 and a half hour and let it cool down for another half hour.4. Grin it until the seed covering separates from the beans. Then stir the cacao until it turns liquid.5. Now mix it with 5 kilos of sugar. Mix it thoroughly with the

traditional machine called “metatehan”, and let it dries from the natural temperature under a half hour.6. Mold it on the “basito” and rolled it down manually.7. Keep it in a warm place in the whole night and tomorrow it is ready for serving.

This little thing will taste the best if you will make it with love and courage. There are many ways of serving it and you’re able to pick what suits your taste. The sweetness of the traditional tabliya will never be defeated by those imported and branded chocolates. Never Say Die Attitude

“Now, they are all nonsense. All the hard work and perspiration was useless for the Southern Tagalog Regional Athletic Association Meet was cancelled. It was postponed due to the government disorder happening and due to the EDSA Revolution. We all are disappointed by the announcement but there is nothing we can do for that was a historic event where our country was escaping out of the tyrant’s hands, out of the dictatorship and out of the Marcos’ regime.” This story was narrated to me by my father a couple of years

ago sharing his experience being an athlete and experience of dismay for the cancellation of the game. President Ferdinand Marcos was the longest leader the country ever had. He also was the most memorable one for in his time, he was the first president declaring Martial law to the Philippines, but this act shut the whole nation down and even drag the Philippine sports society into

the deep waters. When the Martial was waved upon the whole country, the nation was stolen with its rights

and privileges. It was also the second time that the palarong pambansa was cancelled due to the declared

law aside from the first time it was suspended when late President Ramon Magsaysay died in a plane crash. Just like my father,

every athlete in the country have already prepared for the national competition, but they were also dismayed by the law the Marcos implemented the country, September 21, 1972. Those days were the start of the dark days of the country, days with no freedom, no happiness, no joy, and no sports. Everyone was following rules and directions coming from the president and who disobey gets killed nor jailed. The whole country was hand coped, able to do but nothing opposing the administration.

The days with no light lasted long, but it was no long anymore when the year 1984 came. It was the year when the people started fighting for their rights, fighting for dear life. The revolution lasted for three years and those years also suspended the palarong pambansa where my father supposedly was a participant. Finally, the revolution ended, the Marcos’ regime also ended and the notion face a new beginning, a new life. Philippines faced the hardships and dark days under the Marcos’ administration and even the Philippine sports was also affected by the tyrant’s days. Athletes during that time were not given the opportunity to showcase their talent and athleticism. They were also tied with the law and rules that the president has set for his self. Including my father, they were all misfortunate with the time of their prime, with the time of their best days for if it was a year later, they would all be able to play their game, showcase the talent they poses and show their love for sports. Forty years ago, the sun was still shining darkness and the Philippines was tied up by a tyrant ruler, but it was 40 years ago, now, the brightness of the sun is shining upon the whole nation and the brightness is ahead of Philippine sports. Everything is going for the better. 1972 is miles away from 2012 and the huge gap only speaks for changes, changes that are all for the good of the country and the good of its sports. Back then, there were misfortunate athletes, but now, athletes are very lucky having the support from the government and support from the mass to be able to showcase their talent, their athleticism. Attitude of Filipinos: “We may be lamed and fall down, but we will always rise and fight for our dear life.”Attitude of a Filipino athlete: “We may get injured or hurt, we may be handicapped by circumstances, but we will always continue and finish the game until the last second drops.”

Way back to the past, Joyce started playing badminton when she was in 4th grade in her elementary days. Badminton became her pastime and she had won several times over different opponents same as Josua who also learned by the assistance of her ate though he was actually a runner. Because of joining different competitions, they discovered their skills and they turn out to be part of the

more? They are monsters once they grasp the handle of their rackets. One stare and they made their rivals quit. Moreover, having parents that are also engaged in sports is a great advantage for them. They always have them at their back in every competitions and gives support in whatever they do. They are their inspirations aside from God. They are the reason to motivate their fighting spirits. Others find it so difficult to take over both sports and academics because of hectic schedules but for Brunos, they can balance their time wisely to maintain their high grades. “I remember last time, when I played for the unit meet then the next day was examination day. My co-players requested for a special test but I didn’t. I was able to take exams during that day and thank God that the results are good.” Josua said. Playing badminton strengthen the bond between the two of them. Whenever, one of them commit a mistake, it’s easy to inform each other to enhance their ability. Their teamwork was being improved which yields to something better. They have the same interests that why many people likes them. They are artists and at the same time athletes. They are not perfect yet they are really good at both worlds.

Is it really constructive for athletes to stay in a dormitory-accommodated institution like BPHSCA with no resident sports trainor? Since they are athletic and needs much attention in sports, the question is, can they maintain the excellence in such field? Some of the successful athletes who have been famous all over the world have different and productive practices to keep them fit for their category. Discipline is a must for them. It includes exercise and nutritional balance diet. Are the athletes here can get the right daily exercise, ample sustenance and highly recommended practices? Somehow, communism is applied in this kind of institution wherein everybody is equal with their benefits. However, they are steps afar from their rightful training grounds where they can break free and enjoy sports. But then again, due to the school’s schedule, they can only do it at least oncea week unlike the other athletes that sports have been their life. Scholars here eat at least 3 times a day. Their meal is like everybody else’s, even the teachers’ and maintenance personnels’. But what if the athletes can’t get the appropriate diet and the basic

nutritional needs? Are they ready to embrace the immanent probability of being fat, instead of fit? Nevertheless, they can burn

the fats they have on the actual training. It would be more enjoyable for them to exercise when they know they have something to reduce. It somehow inspires them. Discipline is applicable yet no trainer is watching over them so who can say that they are doing what an athlete should? Well, it depends on how they are going to accept what’s coming to them. It is for them already to decide if they are going to take too much or less. Scientific researches proved that environmental adaptation affects too much in a being’s anatomy. For an instance, ethnic African inhabitants are able to jump twice as high as a normal person can do. Moreover, they seem to grow as tall as an ordinary NBA basketball player. It can be caused by how they deal with their surroundings. Because of insufficiency of everything, they tend to arm themselves for hunting and getting fruits. They are just simply jumping to get such food and with insistence, they won’t stop until they already got it. As a result, they grow enormously. How about these athletes here? They are extracted from their municipalities to study here wherein walking is definitely not a big deal. Before, those athletes are walking not so far but enough to strengthen their legs and feet just to go to school unlike now, the dormitory is just 50 steps from the classroom, 25 steps to canteen and 45 steps to mess hall. Additionally, they can’t jog around the sports complex because of early time schedule. From waking up early in the morning to struggle for a decent cubicle to flag ceremony and with no interval, starts the first period. Furthermore, due to exhaustion in the afternoon, they also can’t do such physical activities. Now the question above can be answered with a big yes. On the brighter side, artists here are given special privilege to make use of adequate sports equipments and vast training field only 250 meters away from the school building approximately. Sports serve as the athletes’ specialization here which means they’re only doing it every Fridays. As non-athletes live-in scholars are doing their ways of art during Friday, same as with them but in sports. It will just serve as preparation for them on the forthcoming athletic meets. The Fridays of staying in the field are not only preparation but an indication that the school is looking forward to them in maintaining such expertise. They are given here their basic needs, but sometimes much more than that, what is the least that they can offer to the school as payback for the excellence and fitness? The school is not asking for too much: to bring its name to the national level. But, the school just wants them to do their best as they represent its magnificent name. Talent is achieved in everybody’s birth. It has something to be improved after it has been discovered. Likewise, it is in the athletes to be concluded as skillful. It is how they hold to it and how they enjoy it because that’s the only way of doing it. In general, they are also considered as cultured artists. And although they don’t have a lot of time training, they still need to find ways on how to improve themselves more out of less.

As Filipino warriors compete to a worldwide battle, most of them are not prioritized and given with good benefit. The tiny size of our country’s contingent to the 2012 London Olympics appears to reflect the paltry and tiny support of Philippine Sports Commission to every player. With just 11 athletes, it became the smallest delegation of nation’s pride that Philippines has sent to the five-ring biggest game event in the whole world. Since 1924, Filipino competitors are trained to clash among the other athletes and grab abundant awards that will probably be a title holder in such event. It is a dream and treasure for all of them to participate in Olympics that would be a big honor to our country if they win, but the absence of key to trounce victory is there. In every four years of revolution in the field of sport until in this present generation, Philippines haven’t bagged home any single gold medal. The coaches say that the substandard training facilities are one of the big factors that cause hauling reasons of the losing streak of most.
