Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly The image of Mary, Joseph and the child Jesus huddled at the crib is one of our favorite Christmas images. It evokes a simple peace and precious, innocent gift. All seems right with this family. All seems holy. Most families today feel somewhat distant from that image. Human family life today is not perfect and ideal. Often the way we treat one another doesn’t feel very holy. Fractured, divided and broken families are all around us. There-fore should we despair or give up? Today’s Feast of the Holy Family reminds us that being a family is a journey of both changes and challenges. As St. Paul in today’s second reading (Colossians), we must bring to those challenges all the love and forgiveness we can bear; that eve-ry day we try to put our best face and foot for-ward, rather than allow evil and negative thinking to rule our lives and make us miserable. If we can draw strength from God’s word dwelling deeply within us, we can bring holiness to our family. Yes, the Holy Family is truly a model and mentor for our own families, as we struggle to deal with the many challenges that threaten the peace and unity of being a family. Word for the Day

Mrs. Eileen Boudoin, Funeral and Cemetery Manager for the past 11 years at St. Mary Magdalen, has ac-cepted a position at St. Peters Church in New Iberia. Her service to the staff, the parish and the community were invaluable; she will be missed. Deacon William Vincent has accepted the offer to become the new Director of Cemeteries and our newest staff member, effective January 2, 2019. He has served as deacon at St. Mary Mag-dalen since his ordination in 2012. Let us pray for Eileen and Deacon Billy in these new roles.
