Notes

Dear Parents and Carers,

I truly hope all Kent Road families are staying well and coping with the adjustments we have

all had to make in our lives at this time. Most of us have never experienced anything like

this, and hopefully we never will again.

We miss seeing everyone at school each day but know that by creating distance between

us we are helping to limit the spread of covid19 and hopefully assisting in the process of

getting back to normal routines as soon as possible.

It has been one week since at home/online learning was introduced to our students. For

some children (and parents and teachers) this transition has been smooth but for others it

has been a more challenging adjustment for a range of reasons.

Students are now at home tackling learning tasks without the direct support of their

teachers, the structure of the classroom and the interaction with their peers. And our

Kindergarten students had just started to understand school routines when their world was

tipped upside down.

I want to assure parents that we understand you are busy. You are not meant to be

teachers, and we do not expect you to be. If your child doesn’t get through all the work that

is offered, then that is perfectly fine.

The regular teaching program has been adjusted to cater for the changes in delivery, and all

students will be undertaking the same learning experiences, whether at home or at school.

Every child in every school all around the world is in this situation.

When school resumes after the current threat ends, teachers will adapt their teaching

programs to ensure every student is able to resume learning and be successful. Let’s not

worry about what we can’t control and instead focus making the best of a bad situation.

We know from conversations at school earlier in the term, children are very aware of the

coronavirus. Even if they don’t fully understand what it is, they know it is bad, it is scary and

it is dangerous. Children not only hear everything that is being discussed around them but

they also feel our anxiety and tension.

The idea of not going to school for a few weeks probably sounded inviting to some children

but the reality of not being allowed to go out or meet up with friends or go on holidays is very

difficult to understand.

Over the coming weeks you may see your children displaying a range of behaviours, which

may include constant crying, wanting to be close to their parents all the time,

unco-operative behaviours or being angry. This is normal as children come to accept the

loss of their regular routines and activities. We need to reassure children that this current

If your child is resisting undertaking the school tasks at home, start small. It is better to complete one

task well and without a tantrum than to spend hours arguing with your child to get through all the work.

Parents have enough stress to deal with. Think about the resources you have at home. Building a Lego

tower, reading with your child, rediscovering a favourite book, drawing, baking a cake together, doing

some gardening, going for a walk are all valuable learning activities.

I will continue to send information to parents via the school app or through our website and ask that if

you have questions or concerns, that you contact the school via phone or email, and we will do our

utmost to provide support where required. There will be a grade teacher available to answer student’s

questions online and at school during school hours.

TOP TIPS TO IMPROVE THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Should parents have difficulty providing access to technology for their children they should contact

the school.

To access student work, go to the school website (www.kentroad-p.schools.nsw.gov.au).

On the opening page you will find links to the appropriate grade work.

There is a daily welcome message from teachers available for each grade. Go to the website. You

will see a link to the week’s work plan. Below this is a link to the Daily Welcome video.

Click on the Adobe Connect link.

Parents who requested a take home pack (by email through our website) are able to collect the

pack from classrooms. New take home packs are being prepared and we will notify parents when

they are ready.

Students may wish to take a photo of work completed well and email it to:

[email protected]

BAND INSTRUMENT LESSONS NOW ONLINE

All band members should be aware our instrument tutors and conductor Alex are working hard to set-up

online tuition for instruments. Parents will receive an email regarding this. If it suits parents it will be a

very innovative way to continue to develop music skills.

BUILDING UPDATE

Take a look at the fabulous progress being made by our builders!

SCHOOL APP

The school sends regular information to parents via the Skoolbag app. I recommend parents download this app so they can keep up to date with school information.

Here is how to download the app:

Search for the “SkoolBag” app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and download the

free SkoolBag app.

After opening the app, add your school(s) and you’re ready to go!

The Kent Road Class Parent system has been running for 9 years, and is an Im-

portant communication link between our school, our class teachers, the P&C,

and parents/carers of students in KRPS. If you haven't already, please contact

your Class Parent if you would like to be included in the class communication

chain (email distribution list and class directory) to allow our school, teachers,

and Class Parents to easily keep you informed of school and class related mat-

ters.
