To those of us who build them, they’re trucks. To those of you who use them, they’re power tools…a way to get the job done. They don’t need chrome lug nut covers or leather seats. All they need to do is work.

Nothing works like a Sterling truck. Versatile, tough, dependable and durable, on-road or off, they’redesigned for driving comfort and maximized productivity.

L-Line trucks and tractors — with GVWRs up to 98,000 lbs. — are the Sterling workhorses, engineeredfor those medium-duty to heavy-duty vocations that put a premium on work: construction, refuse,utility, beverage, LTL and municipality.

The L-Line steel cab (aluminum option, L/LT 8500 and 9500) has gained a well-earned reputation fornot only its roominess, but for its quiet ride, structural integrity and durability.

For flexibility of application, the L-Line is offered in four BBCs with a range of diesel engine choicesfrom mid-range to premium big-bore, including the Mercedes-Benz MBE 4000 and MBE 900.

Frame, suspension and lightweight component options, help guarantee that whatever yourrequirements, there’s a set of L-Line specifications to meet them.

Interior materials are especially designed for work trucks, easy to clean, fabricated to last. The extra-toughMordura and Fabriform Mordura seat covers (available only on EzyRider™ seats) are ready-made for vocationslike construction, where seats can be exposed to years of mud, grease and grime.

A choice of color schemes complement exterior colors, including Graphite Black…a popular vocational option.See your Sterling dealer for details.

Powertrain ChoicesThe L-Line offers an effective range of engine choices from Caterpillar,Detroit Diesel and Mercedes-Benz,matched with a variety of Eaton-Fuller and Allison transmissions…plus the high-torque, fuel efficientand durable MBT 6-speed (MBE 900 only).

MBE 900 and MBE 4000 featureadvanced electronic controls, uniquefuel injection systems and extendedmaintenance cycles.

They are recognized throughout theindustry for favorable pricing, fuelefficiency, clean emissions, lowmaintenance costs, and stablehardware that helps contribute toreliability and durability.

• The two-step design is off-set, likestairs, for easy climbing — anadvantage for operators makingmultiple daily deliveries.

Two-Passenger SeatAn available two-passenger seat withunder-seat tool box is a popularoption for applications that typicallyrequire a three-person work crew.

Suspension Offerings Hendrickson — The L-Line isavailable in a wide range ofHendrickson suspensions — single drive, dual drive, air, flat-leaf,PRIMAAX, HAULMAAX, from 23k-52k.

Sterling TufTrac® is designed forhigh articulation operations where it'simportant to traverse bumps, ridgesand washboard without “bottomingout.” It's the suspension of choice invocations that routinely take you intorough, on/off-road areas.

The Sterling TufTrac 2-Stage (shown)provides all of the high-performancefeatures of the standard TufTrac whileimproving the unladen ride.

52" and 60" Two-Stage The standard single-axle rearsuspension is a maintenance-free,two-stage 52" variable rate taper-leafspring in 10k-23k packages.

Optional, maintenance-free, two-stage60" taper-leaf rear suspension springpackages, with optional stabilizer bar,are available in 18k, 21k and 23kratings.

Easy to serviceUnlatch the elastomeric strapsconveniently located on the L-Linefenders and pull from the front to tilt the hood 70 degrees. The splashshields swing up and out of the way — unlike many other truckswhere they have to be removed toservice the engine.

The optional radiator-mounted grillestays put to retain tilt-hood servicingconvenience with front-mountedpumps. On 113-inch BBC and 122-inch BBC models, the oil and coolantlevels can be checked through theavailable, spring-loaded Ready LineAccess Opening.

A butterfly hood option, on 101-inchBBC (RH only) and 113-inch BBC(transverse access) models simplifiesservicing on units with front-mounted PTO equipment.

In-dash fuse panelL-Line fuses are easy to access and replace, helping to reducemaintenance and downtime.

Branch circuit fuses (up to 50) andrelays are located in the dash behindan easily removable panel.

Widely available blade-typeautomotive fuses used in this panelcan be replaced without tools.

There are 12 extra terminals for useas needed.

Main maxi-fuses and relays aremounted in a protected, convenientunder-hood power distribution box.

We also provide auxiliary switchesand connectors for after-market,specialized applications.

Lighter, Tougher FramesExtra-high tensile, bolted 120,000 psiframes are lighter and stronger withup to 5 million RBM rating.

Optional premium HUCK® boltfasteners enhance durability andeliminate retorquing in critical areas.

Front Frame ExtensionsIntegral front frame extensions areavailable on the L-Line in 12" and24" sizes.

Optilock Grid SystemThe Optilock Grid System, a framehole layout process, provides pre-determined rows of potential chassishole locations, spaced approximately2" apart, center-to-center.

All crossmembers, mountingbrackets, etc., comply with the gridpattern, resulting in a more preciselocation of frame components, soimportant for custom order units.

Service and DesignService and Design

Body Builder FriendlyThe L-Line is designed to allow foreasier and cost-effective custom body upfitting.

All-aluminum fuel tanks, ranging insize from 50–150 gallons, aremounted under-cab for maximumground clearance and a clean CA foreasier body installation.

Color-coded air lines are compactlybundled inside the left frame rail andcolor-coded electric circuits arebundled inside the right rail,minimizing the number of lines thatmust cross the frame.

The line placement gives a cleanappearance to the frame and reducesthe risk of snagging critical linesduring body installation.
