John Alan Jones has also been demoted from lieutenant commander to lieutenant, effective im- mediately. Jones was sentenced yesterday, a day after a Court Martial found him guilty of seven indecent acts. This included four oc- casions when he spanked a junior female sailor serving on the same ship. The Court Martial also found him guilty of telling the sailor to take off her pants and then pulling down her under- wear, making her lift up her top, and touching her bottom. It cleared Jones of two other charges of in- decent acts. Man killed by nephew MELBOURNE: A 24- year-old man who killed his uncle after posting murderous messages on Facebook has been jailed for 21 years. Sam Michael West- brook had been threaten- ing to kill his cousin’s boyfriend, Jack Forder, with whom he had a long- running fractious re- lationship, in messages posted on the site, the Victorian Supreme Court heard. On the night of the murder in central Vic- toria he wrote on Facebook: ‘‘Jack dies 2nite. So does everyone else in Dodds Street who walks outside.’’ But when he ap- proached his cousin Alana Westbrook’s home in Maryborough at 4am on May 23, 2010, after a drinking binge, she told him Mr Forder was not home and called out to her father who lived in an adjacent house. When Peter Westbrook stepped outside, his ne- phew shot him before re- loading the gun and aim- ing it at his cousin, who narrowly escaped the bullet as she fled. Afterwards, West- brook text messaged an- other cousin admitting he had shot his uncle. ‘‘I blew him away. It will be on the news,’’ the message said. Justice Betty King said Westbrook and Mr Forder had been behav- ing like ‘‘12-year-old schoolboys’’ all evening, by sending each other threatening texts. She said the use of social media in this case led to the death of a man. School has to accept student SYDNEY: A NSW Cath- olic school has been or- dered to accept the daughter of a same-sex couple after the local diocese intervened. The acting bishop for the Wilcannia-Forbes diocese, Kevin Mann- ing, yesterday said he was appalled by a decis- ion taken by the Sacred Heart Primary School at Broken Hill to refuse a girl a kindergarten place on the basis of her parents’ relationship. The school has now of- fered the girl a place fol- lowing his intervention, Bishop Manning told ABC local radio. ‘‘I was absolutely ap- palled when I heard about it,’’ Bishop Mann- ing said. Newton in strife again Newton SYDNEY: Actor Mat- thew Newton is ac- cused of punching a taxi driver in the head in Sydney. Police arrested the 35-year-old after an in- cident about 10.20am (AEDT) on December 4. Newton, the son of showbusiness couple Bert and Patti Newton, caught the taxi in Crows Nest before be- coming ag- gressive toward the 66-year-old driver and punching him in the head, it’s been alleged. Newton was issued with a field court at- tendance notice for two counts of assault.
