This slide was a video of m
e leading my students as they practice their vow
el sounds. We
work on individual vow
els, me calling them
out, them repeating and show
ing them to m
e w
ith their arms, and then m
e writing them
on the board and them saying and show
ing them
. They are standing up and working as a group. The video ends w
ith them choosing
a consonant, D, practicing ‘DA, DE, DI, DO, DU’ and then singing “Las vocalesenespañol.”
This is a video of my students reading syllables out loud as I point to them
on the board.
This was a video of m
y student pronouncing “invierno.” He is using his arms for each vow
el as he says it.
This was a video of several of m
y students writing on the board. I am
dictating vowels, syllables
and words to them
. One student w
rites “A” for “E”, but is easily corrected.
Photo of fifth graders at the board. They are standing next to words that I dictated.
Another photo of the fifth graders at the board. “Tertulia” is misspelled, but later gets corrected.
This was a video of m
y fifth graders practicing “ar” verbs. We w
armed up vow
els, reviewed several w
ords, review
ed stems and endings using our arm
s for each vowel and then divided syllables, “ha/blo” as opposed to
“habl/o.”
This was a video of an activity w
here students were tossing a ball to a partner across the room
(in two facing
lines), saying a conjugated verb (using their arms in the vow
el positions). The recipient, repeated the word
and motions, and then said w
hat the word m
eant before passing the ball along to the next person. They used traditional TPR to help each other w
ith translations.
This was a video of a fourth grader reading a short paragraph he w
rote about his favorite season and activities he likes to do then. It w
as the end goal with the unit on the calendar and seasons.
This was a video of a fourth grader at the end of the year last year reading a paragraph he w
rote about his favorite m
eal. His pronunciation is good, and he seems very com
fortable with it.
This was a video of a fourth grade girl answ
ering a question about her classmate’s paragraph on his favorite m
eal. She says “A T. le gusta
beberaguay losrefrescos,” but m
ispronounces “refrescos” because it sounds like “refreshments.” W
e slow
down the w
ord and she uses her arms to help w
ith the vowels, and she sounds it out correctly.
This was a video of our fifth grade’s end of the year com
petition. It is quiz-bowl style, and the parents and low
er grades are invited. In this video a student answ
ers the question, “¿Cuálesla forma ‘nosotros’ del verbo
‘trabajar’?”
In this video of our competition, a student translates a sentence from
English to Spanish.
In this video a student at the competition is reading a sentence out loud in Spanish. She has never
seen the sentence, and it is actually from a m
ore advanced curriculum.
