Kyoto:

Kyoto was the home of Japans emperor and the countries capital from 794 until 1868. It is now the country's seventh largest city and is a mix of traditional and modern Japanese culture.

Over the centuries, Kyoto was destroyed by many wars and fires, but due to its historic value, the city was not destroyed during World War II. Countless temples and shrines have been well maintained and are popular tourist destinations. Popular places include Kiyomizudera, Ginkakuji, Kodaiji Temple, Heian Shrine, Yasaka Shrine, Kinkakuji, Ryoanji Temple, Nijo Castle, Fushimi Inari Shrine, and Nara .

Kyoto is also known for its many historic districts. The Higashiyama District is a great place to experience traditional old Kyoto, with its narrow lanes, wooden buildings, and traditional merchant ships. Gion () is another historical area, and is Kyoto's most famous geisha district. It is filled with many shops and ochaya (teahouses), where Geisha and Maiko entertain.

Geisha are traditional Japanese female entertainers who act as hostesses and whose skills include performing various Japanese arts such as classical music, dance, games and light conversation. The traditional white makeup, red lipstick, decorated up hairstyle, and kimono are some of the most recognizable characteristics of Geisha.

For many tourists, catching a glimpse of a Geisha is a highlight of visiting Kyoto.

Kyoto is also known for its unique culinary traditions such as Green Tea, Kaiseki ryori., and pressed sushi.
