The standard of the industry

Today it is called the Kværner Screw Press. When introduced to the industry in 1920, and for many years afterwards, it was called the Thune Press. Under any name, it is still the standard of the industry.

The Screw Press is used for a variety of dewatering and washing applications in mechanical, recycled and chemical pulping processes.

An excellent choice for dewatering in many applications including:

Removing DCM extractives.

Washing DIP.

Washing high kappa kraft pulp.

Dewatering rejects.

Kværner Screw Press BenefitsWide range of capacities

Capacities for single units ranging from 10 to 1000 tons per day, and attainable consistencies of 30% and more, permit excellent dewatering in a wide range of applications. Higher capacities can be reached with our new HiCap screw.

Special bearing design

Standard bearings in a special arrangement allow reversing the screw at maximum loads without risk of damaging the machinery.

Stable discharge consistency

Automatic torque control regulates screw speed according to the process variation to keep a high and constant discharge consistency.

Pilot Tests

Pre-purchase, on-site pilot tests or tests in Kværner laboratories help ensure that the Kværner Screw Press meets a mill's dewatering specifications.

Specially designed press screw for handling all pulps

Kværner has the know-how and engineering skills to design the most appropriate press screw for meeting specific dewatering requirements.

The Kværner Screw Press SP-Series

More than 75 years of dewatering experience and 1000 references support Kværner's claim of top quality and trouble-free operation.

All wetted parts are of high- grade stainless steel.

The pneumatic counter- pressure system with piston- type individual baffles combined with a mechanically adjusted cone ring ensure a high and even discharge consistency.

The drill pattern of the screens and the close tolerances between the screw flight and the screens prevent the fibers from blocking the screen holes.

Improved hard facing on the screw flight at the discharge end significantly reduces abrasion.

The split screen at the discharge end enables easy screw flight inspection and rewelding.

The screen on the screw shaft at the discharge end increases and evens out the discharge consistency.

Available with a mechanical or hydraulic drive. The choice of either is based on Kværner's experience or the mill's preference.

The drive unit together with the thrust bearing at the discharge end minimize tension on the screw press.
