Accompanied by the chiefof Public Relations and Protocol forthe province, Ketut Teneng, Pastikasaid he is following the rules setforth in the national press law.Mediation is underway, but Pastikasaid the Press Council is not beingtransparent in publicizing the resultsof the mediation process. Thegovernor is displeased with the factthat in the original findings the PressCouncil declared the reporting in thecase by The Bali Post as unverifiedand inaccurate. 'day again folks and welcome to the Christmas 2011 edition ofthe Kuta Weekly. It's a great time of year to be on the islandGenjoying the spoils of a good years work and relaxing as most

tourists do while here kicking back. I did notice that the traffic justbefore the rush of people hitting the island had eased to a bearablelevel and in the last few days had quickly increased to an almost standstill as usual.

I see the Balinese have out done themselves again this yearand helped make Bali look a lot like every other western city in so far as

Christmas decorations go. Just about the entire place is covered with decorations and trees and baublesmaking most places look like home. I see a heap more places are catering for the big Christmas lunch as I'msure the most of us have been getting emails offering deals and seeing advertising almost everywhere. Mytips for the best places to go for the Big Day and enjoy a few coldys with friends and company are:

The Boss has the western Chef, aka Pete working his magic on a set menu which is sure to satisfythe most eager critic and sort out that Christmas trifle craving once again for the year. I watched as the Chefmade the 2011 trifle and didn't realize that much Port goes into one big trifle. It was literally running outthanks to a decent traveller that had some extra room in their luggage and pledged a full cask of the oldTawny Port for the job. So bring your bathers and the family and a healthy appetite, but, be sure to get on thephone and call derrick to secure a booking straight away as seats are limited as it's a first in best fed typething again this year. They are having two sittings so enjoy enjoy enjoy!

Y-BAR SPORTS BAR, Again the powers that be are putting on a good show for Christmas with theChristmas Eve celebration probably being bigger than the big day itself. The Steve's and Mr Rudi's areputting on a free BBQ for everyone from 7pm Christmas Eve and giving away a free beer or slushy toeveryone as a welcome drink, they have a lucky door prize hamper happening worth 5 million Rupiah, and

If your preschoolers turnup their noses at carrots orcelery, a small reward l ike asticker for taking even ataste may help get them toeat previously shunnedfoods, a UK study said.

Though it might seem

obvious that a reward couldtempt young children to eat theirvegetables, the idea is actuallycontroversial, researchers wrotein the American Journal ofClinical Nutrition.

That's because somestudies have shown that rewardscan backfire and cause childrento lose interest in foods theyalready liked, said Jane Wardle,a researcher at UniversityCollege London who worked onthe study.

Verbal praise, such as"Br i l l iant ! You' re a greatvegetable taster," did not work aswell.

"We would recommendthat parents consider using smallnon-food rewards, given daily for

tasting tiny pieces of thefood -- smaller than half a littlefinger nail," Wardle said in anemail.

The study found thatwhen parents gave their three-and four-year-olds a stickereach time they took a "tiny taste"of a disliked vegetable, it

gradually changed the children'sattitudes.

Over a couple of weeks,children rewarded this way weregiv ing h igher rat ings tovegetables, with the foodsmoving up the scale frombetween 1 and 2 - somewherebetween "yucky" and "just okay"- to between 2 and 3, or "justokay" and "yummy".

The children were alsowilling to eat more of thevegetables - either carrots,celery, cucumber, red pepper,cabbage or sugar snap peas - inlaboratory taste tests, the studysaid.

Researchers randomlyassigned 173 families to one ofthree groups. In one, parents

Soon after, children in thesticker group were giving higherratings to the vegetables - andwere willing to eat more in theresearch lab, going from anaverage of 5 grams at the start toabout 10 grams after the 12-dayexperience.

The turnaround alsoseemed to last, with preschoolersin the sticker group still willing toeat more of the once-shunnedveggie three months later.

Why didn't the verbalpraise work? Wardle said theparents' words may have seemed"insincere" to their children.

Words like "you know" and "like" mightbe irritating to hear, but for the third year in arow, it's "whatever" that holds the most power

to annoy, according to an annual survey by theMarist College Institute for Public Opinion.

Nearly four in ten adults named"whatever" as the most annoying verbal filler incasual conversation, while one in five adultshad similar disdain for "like" and 'you know."

"Just sayin'" and "seriously" were moreforgiving to the ears, though still quite irritating,Marist found.

The telephone survey of 1,026 adultsnationally had a margin of error of threepercentage points.

with the governmentpromising to announce its intentionin that area shortly.

foreigners of cannabis andhashish in coffee shops arebanned.

The Dutch governmenthas been clamping down on thesale of soft drugs since 2007because of gang-related crimeand concern about the risk tohealth, particularly as strongerforms of cannabis have beenintroduced.

"The Dutch drugs policy'sappeal to foreign users has to bereduced," Dutch Security and

J u s t i c eM i n i s t e r I v oOpstelten said in aletter to parliament.

"Drug useby minors will bes t r o n g l ydiscouraged and inp a r t i c u l a r ,

vulnerable youngpeople w i l l beprotected againstdrug use," theminister added.

T h e n e wrules, which willfirst take effect inthe south andg r a d u a l l y b e

extended countrywide, limitsales of cannabis to residentsof the Netherlands who mustenroll as members of a coffeeshop, the minister said.

The rules will come intoeffect from January 1, 2012, butwill not be enforced until May 1,starting in the three southernprovinces where drug tourismis most common and regardedas a problem by many localresidents.

The rest of the country,including Amsterdam, whosedrugs scene is a tourist magnet,will enforce the new rules fromJanuary 1, 2013.

onwards, a coffee shopcan have a maximum of 2,000members.

Google donates $11.5 million to f ight modern slaveryGoogle Inc is donating$11.5 million (7.4 millionpounds) in grants tofight modern slavery andits hold on 27 millionpeople worldwide.

The donation isbelieved to be one of thelargest corporate initiativesever to fight slavery.

Google said on itscharitable website that itsgrants will "free more than12,000 people from modern-dayslavery" and prevent "millions morefrom being victimized."

The company lists 10recipients of its anti-slavery grants.The money will mainly go tointervention and education projectsin India, Europe and the UnitedStates.

Google said it is funding thegroups International Justice Mission,BBC World Service Trust, ActionAidIndia and Aide et Action to form anew coalition in India that will work

with governments to stopslave labour.

The coalition will identifyslavery ring masters, documentabuse, free individuals and offerthem therapy, Google said.

The Google grants will alsogo to the nonprofits Slavery Footprintand Polaris Project to help trackslavery and educate Americansabout the problem.

"It's hard for most Americansto believe that slavery and humantrafficking are still massive problems

Tomic aims high for 2012Breaking into theworld's top 10 by theage of 20 may soundambitious, but tennisp r o d i g y B e r n a r dTomic reckons thatmay be the least of hisachievements nextyear after surprisinghimself with his 2011success.

Spurred on by fellow Gold Coast productSam Stosur's US Open success, world number42 Tomic hoped he would be celebrating morethan just his 20th birthday on October 21.

"I would love to be in the top 10 by my nextbirthday," he said on Tuesday as he prepared forthe Brisbane International from January 1.

"If not, I am looking to be in the top 20. Itwill be a hard task but I have done well this year.

"I did not think I would be where I am -anything is possible.

"I have a lot of tournaments where I canget points in the next six months."Tomic is thinking big after this year

becoming the youngest man to reach theWimbledon quarter-finals since Boris Becker in1986.

The teenager qualified for Wimbledon asthe world number 158 but had rocketed into thetop 50 for the first time by the end of the year.

Tomic admitted he would be under morepressure to perform from an Australian sportingpublic starved for tennis success since LleytonHewitt's decline.

But Tomic did notmind adding to that pressurehimself with grand slamsuccess and Olympic medalsnow in his sights followingStosur's US Open triumph.

"It (Stosur) motivatesus a lot. I look at it and say I

want to win a grand slam likeher," he said."That will always be

with her that title, and maybe in the future I canwin tournaments like that.

"The Olympics will be my focus as wellnext year.

"It is a true event, one that I want to wina medal at.

"There is a little bit more pressure onme, but I have always had pressure from ayoung age - I know how to handle it."

Tomic will hope to launch his bold 2012plan at the Brisbane International, which willalso feature Andy Murray.

Success has helped Tomic win overthe sporting public but he still believes he hasbeen "misunderstood".

Tomic recently made headlines afterbeing investigated by Gold Coast police forcomplaints of hooning in his sports car.

"I don't worry about that stuff. It is in thepast," he said.

Water allergy leaves woman with h ivesA rare allergy has left a 26-year-oldBritish woman too afraid to leave herhouse in case it rains.

Katie Dell is one of about 35 people in theworld diagnosed with aquagenic urticaria - anallergy to water that prevents her froms w i mmi n g o r c r y i n gbecause it causes a painful

rash. "The condition has,and will continue, to getprogressively worse," MrsDell said.

ago."After the operation I had penicillin that I

later discovered I was allergic to. Doctors thinkthis may have altered the histamine levels in mybody,"

"By the time I reached 20, it was at thepoint I wanted to dig mynails into my skin. But

doctors still looked at melike I was telling fibs andpeople would tell me it wasall in my head, even thoughI was in agony.

"I felt like I was goingmad."

Mrs Dell's husband,Andy, helps her washbecause she is only able tospend a few minutes in theshower.

"I have to be reallyquick so Andy washes myhair and I wash my body.

After, I can't go anywherefor about two hoursbecause it 's just toopainful," she said.

"Andy is amazing - we have beentogether 11 years and he's been fantastic aboutmy condition.

"He does everything from putting the wetwashing out on the line, to washing up, to doingthe grocery shopping when it's raining. I can'tthank him enough."

Greek man claims for 19 kids-none real, police sayA former Greek policemanwho invented 19 fictionalo f f s p r i n g t o c l a i mbenefits for what wouldhave been the largestfamily in Greece hasbeen arrested for benefitfraud, police said.

The former police

officer, divorced and with nochildren of his own, quit his1,000-euro-a-month ($1,300)

job in 2001 and has beenliving solely on benefits eversince.

Using photographsof children he found online,the 54-year-old man forged birthcertificates and other documentsneeded to claim benefits for atleast one child a year since 1996.

Police estimate he madeat least 150,000 euros in claimsover 15 years, but the actualamount is probably much higher.

The fraud was so expert,police said, that they only realizedsomething was amiss when they

noticed his was the only Greekfamily with that many children. Theaverage Greek family usually hastwo or three children.

"We have never seen (ascam) like this before," said a policeofficial who declined to be namedbecause he was not authorized tospeak to the press.

The former policeman, whounder Greek law cannot be named,was arrested as he was about to
