G'day again people and I hope the week finds you as well as itfinds me. This week brought another bout of cloud ash from Chile, witha heap of flights being delayed causing some tourists to stay on theisland for an extra few days (poor people) I reckon those people wouldhave been glad they had travel insurance.

I overheard a conversation the other day about the green housegasses that this big volcano has spewed into the air over the last fewweeks and I am led to believe it has put double the green house gasesback into the atmosphere that has been saved by our efforts over the

last 20 years. So, for all the recycling we have done and the sorting plastic bottles and so on, it could all havebeen a waste of time due to that eruption. Makes you wonder doesn't it, as while living here we all tend tobecome slightly distanced from the everyday hum drum and world issues whilst relaxing back and enjoyingyour life on the island. I truly couldn't think of anywhere else I would rather be. Rock on Bali.

Ok, moving along, last week I did promise to let you all in a little place that sells some of the best

quality steak on the island. Moo Moos steak house on Melasti Street. This place is without adoubt one of the best family restaurants you could hope to come across while on holidays or even livinghere. The service is about the quickest and friendliest I have come across in a very long time. The restauranthas had a complete refit making the dcor suitable to have a friendly beer at the bar to casual dinner withfriends to a full blown wedding including catering. Designed by the owner operator, Richard, who has abackground in the game for many years. They decided to bring the family up north and get cracking on aquality restaurant in Bali, and by my reckoning they have done just that. They have a separate, secure areafor the kids (including Play Stations) to keep the young one happy while mum and dad enjoy that secondbottle of wine picked from a huge selection. The place really is something special and I am looking forwardto working with Moo Moos in the Kuta Weekly.

I remember Melasti street being one of the busiest streets in and around Kuta yet for some reason itslowed down to a grind years ago and as is usual with the passing of time, it seems the street has re-invented itself and has now got some of the most popular and highest quality shopping, dining andentertainment that Kuta has to offer. I believe there are three new hotels being built at the moment in thestreet. They have a Commonwealth bank at the end of the street which makes it easy for the traveller toaccess their coin quickly, or have a coffee and afternoon tea right next door to the bank at Coffee Corner, who arguably serves the best coffee and pastries around. Melastis got it going on.

Alright, folks I could rave on for hours about things and then get started on how good the Mighty Piesare, and how they will take the flag again this year but, I think the fingers are about done for the week, so I willleave you to your week on the usual note, be safe be healthy, be happy and above all else (from the mouth ofa very good friend), none as so deaf as those who don't see.

    Enjoy your week,

In the long history of badindustrial design, the flightattendant cal l button oncommercial airlines takes aprominent place.

Usually located next to thereading light button and oftenindistinguishable from it, the

dreaded button causes flightattendants to make countlesspointless trips down the aisles everyday, only to hear embarrassedpassengers say they were just

trying to switch on the light. Not for much longer. The new interior design for

Boeing's 737 passenger jet, thebest-selling plane in aviation history, includes an innovation that is asradical as it is obvious: a flightattendant button that is situated wellaway from the reading light button

and actually looks different from it."I feel we came up with a really

good improvement, said Boeing'sGeneral Manager for the 737program.

Boeing rights a wrong: the flight attendant button

The new 737 "SkyIn ter io r " b r ings designelements from future Boeingplanes such as the 787Dreamliner and the new 747-8stretch jumbo to the slowlyaging 737.

Besides an identifiablecall button and a slightlyplusher finishing, the newinterior features sophisticatedLED lighting and new luggagebins that leave enoughheadspace for a tall person tostand up in the seats next to theaisle.

83 percent of the airlinesin Boeing's long order book forthe 737 opt for the new interior.

Cabin crew will feel thedifference in their feet.

    " O n e v e r y f l i g h tsomebody pushes the wrongbutton. It is an issue for flightattendants,"

The new interior of the737 is the result of extensiveresearch, which has shown, among other things, that manypassengers avoid turning onthe reading light for fear ofaccidentally calling the flightattendant,

Could earlier engineersnot have imagined a moreintuitive position for the callbutton, which has stumpedgenerations of passengers andearned its own entry onbaddesigns.com

"I can't help but agreethat it is not like we neededextensive research to figurethat one out said one frequentflyer.

Chef catches flak for treated tap waterAn Australian chef hasreceived a chilly receptionfor charging diners fort reated tap water andditching boutique bottledwater, which he termedwasteful, for an eco-friendlyoption.

Mark Best, chef and ownerof Marque Restaurant in Sydney, turned years of environmentalconsciousness into action bysplashing out on a $6,000 Italian-made water system that filters, chills and carbonates tap water, the first of its kind in an Australianrestaurant.

He now charges A$5 ($5.3)for water -- but this includesunlimited refills. He previouslycharged A$10 for 500 ml ofboutique bottled water.

Not only did the movelighten his carbon impact bycutting down on refrigeration and

    transport needs for thebottled water,

it also helps reduce theamount of plastic bottles cloggingup landfills, he said.

"I'm not highly political but Iwant to make people aware andthis is just one initiative," Best said.

    B u t w h i l e t h e

environmentally-friendly move hasdrawn praise in some quarters, many are outraged at having to payfor what they see as basic tapwater, however fancied up it maybe.

"If you're willing to pay $5 fora glass of water then you've moremoney than sense. Give it tocharity,"

Best said he has alsoreceived abusive emails.

"A guy said that I waspathetic and he hoped the lawyerstook me to pieces...I'm not sure forwhat."

Local law states that if tap

water is treated it is not illegalto sell it on licensed premises, butlicensed premises must supplyfree tap water when required by acustomer. Best said authoritiesgave him a green light.

Though he could have buriedthe charge in the bill, Best said hewanted to make the charge clear

A recent study by Texas researchersproves what single men have knownfor a long time, Chicks dig hot cars.

Men who wear expensive clothes anddrive flashy cars are more successful athaving flings and staying single than theirfinancially conservative counterparts, researchers said.

    A n d w h i l e i t ' s n o t e x a c t l ygroundbreaking information that somewomen are more likely to go from the bar with

a guy in a Porsche rather than a Geo, theproject found the phenomenon is less aboutgold-digging and more about "signals,".

By engaging in splashy personalspending, men are sending a signal towomen that they want a "short termrelationship," much like peacocks trying towoo a mating partner using "wasteful, elaborate displays,"

"Basically, they're just trying toconvince a female that, 'Hey, if all you'relooking for is genes, I have the best genes,so you should choose me,'"

Women, pick up on that signal andrespond to it -- positively if she's into that kindof thing, or negatively if she is looking for

marriage material."Women seem to understand thatwhen they see a man who has chosen tospend money conspicuously, they think hewould be more interesting as a date,"

That is, if all they want is a one-nighteror something temporary. When it comes tothe long term, flashing the cash becomes aturn-off for women.

"If you ask them to think of these meninstead as a long term partner, how good isthis guy as a marriage partner, the flashy

spending doesn't help him at all,"The same is not true for women, the study

    shows.Researchers surveyed nearly 1,000 men

and women in four separate studies to determinethe signals sent by conspicuous consumption andhow it is viewed by the opposite sex.

Not all men who spend conspicuously do soin hopes of having a fling, and women who date

these types of men are not all interested simply inflings. But the signals are clear, even if the

intentions are not."It appears to be a behavior that is much

more likely to occur if the guy is seeking short-termrelationships, and he is thinking about a situation where hemight be able to get one of those short-term relationships,""When they think about women, they spend lots of money.

AriesKnowing there's yet another unsettling eclipse coming in lessthan a week's time, there's little point in struggling to get thingsorganised just so now. Instead work out the general plan. Butsave the effort of putting every element of arrangements inorder until after July 1, when you'll know what's what.

    30 June - 6 July 2011 (240 )

TaurusSometimes you must simply make your own mistakes. Youlong ago realised that often you learn more fromexperimentation and fromgetting things wrong. Now you need

to allow one particular individual to do the same. No amount ofwords will change their thinking. Back off, ensuring they knowthey've your support.

GeminiOrdinarily you could avoid the tedious details that are inevitablypart of dealing with business or financial matters by doing theminimum. Try that now, however, and when the unsettling eventspromised by Friday's eclipsed New Moon on July 1 take place, you'll be short of vital information. Gather those facts now.

CancerYet again you seemto be trying to keep elements of the pastafloat while developing intriguing new activities. Diff icult as lettinggo of once cherished arrangements, alliances or even habits maybe, these are of increasingly little significance. Say a properfarewell to these and suddenly your life will be less complicated.

LeoThe best solution for the issues you're currently facing is

patience. However convinced you are that your usual blend ofcharm and persuasion will win others over to your way ofthinking, it just won't work. Actually, the less you say, the better.Soon others will be more cooperative. But not now.

VirgoTempting as it is to say to others that 'you told themso', you'dregret it. While they ignored certain suggestions you made, equally, you dismissed the recommendations of others in asoffhand a manner. Think back and you'll recall exactly what itwas and will, ideally, go back and asknowledge they were right.

LibraLittle is more annoying than having invested time in working out aplan everybody could live with, only to find it must be changed.Try and stick with things as they are, however, and you'll onlycomplicate matters. The actual circumstances involved arechanging and so, too, much even the simplest of arrangements.

ScorpioDon't make the mistake of thinking that just because you're beingforced to give up on certain plans, you somehowgot things wrong. In reality, the actual circumstances you're dealing with are

evolving, so rapidly that even the simplest of arrangements willinevitably go through several versions before anything can beconsidered settled.

SagittariusFew things annoy you more than those who interfere withthings they know little about. But judging by the currentplanetary set up, that's exactly what you'll be facing, and in anumber of situations. While often others' efforts will be no morethan a nuisance, in one or two they'll offer valuable insights.

CapricornDisruptive as sudden changes in the circumstances of others maybe, in the long run they'll be spur vital last minute improvements inexisting arrangements. Better yet, the resulting exchanges won'tjust be helpful when it comes to the situation in question. They'll do

wonders to resolve persistentand perplexing issues.

AquariusOnce you accept that certain unsettling developments are actuallyin your best interests, you'll stop battling them. Instead your

perspective will shift, gradually but steadily, until you begin torecognise their potential. Fromthat point onward everything you

see and hear will reassure you that this is, indeed, right for you.

PiscesSometimes you can trust that a combination of others' efforts andyour own superb timing will bring off even impossiblearrangements. However, because you're now contending withfrequent and unsettling changes in the actual foundation on which

plans have been made, success will require an investment of farmore time and energy on your part.

It was 30 years ago thisw e e k w h e n J o h nMcEnroe uttered whathas become the mostimmor ta l ph rase intennis, if not all sport, when he screamed "youcannot be serious" at aW imb le d o n u mp i rewhile disputing a linecall.

For players brought up in an era of Hawkeye electronic detectiondevices, when line-call challenges are enshrined in the rules of thegame, it is impossible to understand the furore McEnroe's outburstcaused in the civilized world of tennis.

McEnroe already had a reputation and had been labelled"Superbrat" by the British tabloid media for his verbal volleys during hisprevious Wimbledon appearances.

His moment came in a first-round match against fellow AmericanTom Gullikson, who was serving at 15-30 and 1-1 in the first set when aMcEnroe shot was called out.

Approaching the umpire, he said: "Chalk came up all over theplace, you can't be serious man."

Then, his anger rising, he bawled the words that would stay withhim for a lifetime and, for all his wonderful play and myriad achievements, earn him a special niche in the sporting annals.

"You cannot be serious," he screamed. "That ball was on the line."Chalk flew up, it was clearly in, how can you possibly call that

    out?" he went on.

"Everybody knows it's in in the whole stadium and you call it out?You guys are the absolute pits of the world, you know that?"

On the receiving end of the tirade was umpire Edward James, who eventually responded by politely announcing: "I'm going to award apoint against you Mr McEnroe."

That was not the end of it as the referee was later called amidanother rebuke for the headband-sporting, wild-haired American after hesmashed his racket into the hallowed turf.

"You are misusing your racquet, Mr. McEnroe," said James."You are an incompetent fool, an offence against the world,"

boomed McEnroe, who was docked another point. It made little difference in the end as McEnroe went on to win in

straight sets to begin a campaign that would end two weeks later with hisfinal victory over Bjorn Borg.

Gullikson was unimpressed, saying at the time: "It has no place.Everyone's afraid of these guys. All it would take is one default to putthem in line. If it was the 120th player in the world they would havedefaulted him."

The outraged Wimbledon officials were equally annoyed andbroke with tradition by not making their new 22-year-old singles

champion an honorary member of the All England Club.McEnroe boycotted the Champions' Dinner in response, missing

a chance to dance with women's champion Chris Evert in the process."You cannot be serious" moved quickly beyond tennis as the

phrase, and McEnroe's accompanying tantrum, featured in comedysketches, TV adverts and pop songs and the man himself even used it asthe title of his autobiography.

McEnroe continued to rail against the authorities throughout hiscareer and fans came to be almost disappointed if he held his tongue andmerely entertained them with some of the most sublime tennis everproduced.

Eventually, though, technology came to wield a greater influencethan the human eye and courtside rows generally went the way ofwooden rackets.

Back in 1981 Wimbledon fans responded to McEnroe's rant with

a slow hand-clap which, in some sort ofdelicious irony, is now the accompaniment to the big-screen replays of line calls that have been appealedagainst by players as part of their three challenges perset allocation.

When once they booed a line-call query, theynow cheer and clap when a challenge is successfuland as "Superbrat" mellowed to become a widely-respected TV analyst of the game, memories of hisbehaviour attracted a rose-tinted tinge.

In a poll last year to discover their most

memorable Wimbledon moment, 5,000 fans paid lipservice to Briton Virginia Wade's emotional homesuccess in 1977, the epic 2008 Roger Federer-RafaNadal final and even the momentous Borg-McEnroe tiebreak in 1980.

There was, of course, only one winner. And yes, they were being serious.

It was 30 years ago? You cannot be serious!News Corner

He had all theright muscles in all the right places, thick wavy hair, longpowerful legs, dazzling smile, six pack abs and she felt quitecertain she could bounce a sixpence off his well oiled bum....You get the picture! She figured, what the heck, I'll give him a call."Good evening ma'am, how may I help you? .. . . Oh my, he

sounded sooo sexy!Afraid she would lose her nerve if she hesitated, she rushedright in, "Hi, I hear you give a great massage, I'd like you tocome to my room and give me one. No, wait, I should bestraight with you. I'm in town all alone and what I really want issex. I want it hard, I want it hot, and I want it now. Bring toys, rubber, leather, whips, everything you've got in your bag oftricks. We'll go hot and heavy all night - tie me up, cover me inchocolate syrup and whipped cream, anything and everything, baby. Now how does that sound?"

He said, "That sounds absolutely fantastic, but first you needto press 9 for an outside line!"

Father O'Malley rose from his bed one morning. It was a

fine spring day in his new Ballina parish.

He walked to the window of his bedroom to get a deep

breath of the beautiful day outside. He then noticed therewas a donkey lying dead in the middle of his front lawn. Not

knowing who else to call, he promptly called the local police

    station.

    The conversation went like this:

''Good morning. This is Sergeant Jones.

Knuckles backs Reds to claim titleFormer Queensland coachJohn Connolly believes the"stars have aligned" for theReds to end their 16-seasonSuper Rugby drought.

Connolly was the firstReds' coach in the professionalera in 1996, following Super 10triumphs in 1994-95, and heexpects Quade Cooper and WillGenia to lead them back to thepromised land.

The 2007 World CupWallabies' coach says thesuperiority of the Genia-Cooperhalves combination will ensurethe Reds topple the Blues inSaturday night's semi-final atLang Park.

Then, Connolly believes, the Reds will have a massiveadvantage over their finalopponents - the Stormers or Crusaders - who will need totravel to Brisbane following their Cape Town semi-final.

"Those two teams may be playing their grand final

this weekend, so the stars might be aligning forQueensland," Connolly said.

"It is still hard work [to win a title from number one]and you need a bit of luck but, having said that, we have avery real chance.

"I'd be preferring to be in our position than anyoneelse's."

Highlighting the Reds' significant home groundadvantage, no team has won a Super Rugby play-off onforeign soil since 2000.

But Connolly, who enjoyed both Super 10triumphs in South Africa, well knows it can happen.

He took star-studded Reds' teams to minorpremierships in 1996 and 1999, before they were upset in

Ballymore semi-finals by the Sharks andCrusaders respectively.

"There's no doubtyou need a bit running foryou and playing one ofthose teams coming out ofAfrica is difficult," he said.

    "The Crusaders'

performance to date hasbeen miraculous. Havingnever played at home, tohave been to England andplayed, and now off toSouth Africa, I don't know ifthey can get over thathurdle to be perfectlyhonest.

"After their firstcouple of games, theyplayed a month where theyplayed the best rugby froma Super Rugby team ever

before being hit down by injuries."We've had a bit of luck with injuries and

you need that but they have been knockedabout. It's a phenomenal effort."The Reds will field close to their

strongest team with flanker Beau Robinson(elbow), centre Anthony Faingaa (hamstring)and winger Digby Ioane (head knock) allcleared to start.

They will enjoy a key line-out edge overthe Blues after the Auckland-based franchiseconfirmed lock Anthony Boric (foot) will bereplaced by back rower Chris Lowrey in thesecond row.

Connolly says there is little between theteams from 1-15 but tipped Wallabies' pairGenia and Cooper to repeat their dominance ofAlby Mathewson and Stephen Brett six weeksago in the Reds' 37-31 victory at Lang Park.

"I don't know how well, with Boric out,how the Blues can launch their attack from theline-outs," he said.

"I think Queensland have such adecisive advantage at nine and 10, as it was amonth ago, and it will probably be too much forAuckland to overcome.

"They made the difference that nightand were clearly superior in gamemanagement and everything else and I suspectit won't change.

    HARDEN THE #### UP !!

Ratten said the Blues could not hit backafter giving the Eagles the early run ning.

Coach Brett Ratten has blasted hisBlues for getting too cute with the ball andlacking the appetite for hard work afterCarlton's 36-point loss to West Coast.

It was only their third defeat of theyear but it cost the Blues third spot on theladder, dropping to fourth with nine-and-a-

half wins from 13 matches.Asked if it was the loss Carlton hadto have after four consecutive wins, Rattensaid: "Yeah, probably.

    "You talk about momentum and

things in a season. It was never going to goperfectly to the script."

The Eagles won15.13 (103) to 10.7 (67) atDocklands on Sunday, asthe visitors capitalised onCarlton's under-sizeddefence to grab 23

contested marks to theBlues' 11.Michael Jamison

suffered a knock to the left kneein the first quarter and wassubbed off shortly before halftime.

But losing his keydefender was only part of thereason why the Blues were sosoundly beaten, said Ratten, who was fuming over the numberof kicks which failed to hit targets.

"They outplayed us.They outworked us today, all overthe ground," he said.

    "We just probably played

too cute, gave them someconfidence and then we couldn'tget anything back.

"Our appetite might havebeen down a fraction today. Idon't know (why).

"We over-finessed withthe ball and they were probablyreally hungry.

"Today we were off ourgame especially early. Maybe notkicking along the ground (wouldhelp)."

Jeff Garlett kicked threegoals while Heath Scotland,Marc Murphy and Bryce Gibbswere among Carlton's better

performers.Skipper Chris Judd hadonly four kicks and 13 handballsas Eagles' tagger Scott Selwoodclaimed a major scalp.

"They did a pretty good job to, I suppose, limit hisinfluence," Ratten said.

Trailing by 28 points athalf-time, the Blues kicked thefirst four goals of the second halfto narrow the gap to four points.

    But the Eagles were

responded with four ofthe next five goals to hold a 22-point buffer at three-quartertime, and the Blues wereoutscored three goals to one inthe final term.

I t was a day ofcelebration for West Coastwhich claimed its first win overa top-four side this season.

"The players havegrown a lot in belief this year. There's no doubt about thatand today would reinforcethat," Eagles' coach John

Worsfold said."Our aim is to build ateam that can challenge for apremiership, and there'scertain things we've got tocontinue to work on and makehappen to achieve that.

"But I think whatpeople have seen so far is thatthere is a pathway that webelieve in and we're headingdown it."

    C a r l t o n f a c e sRichmond at the MCG onSaturday, with Ratten able toget key forward Jarrad Waiteand midfielder Mitch Robinson

back from injury."It will be good to getanother focal point in Jarradback up there. He has been agreat target for us," Rattensaid.

Losing Jamison forpossibly a month will test thebackline, although 189cmdefender Jeremy Laider is apossible inclusion for nextweek.

The power of the PiesWhy is it that Collingwood are flag

favourites while undefeated Geelong sit aloneat the top of the AFL ladder?

Surely the undefeated Cats, who haveplenty of finals experience, remain the team tobeat? Not according to the bookies and most of thefootball public. Perhaps the sight of Travis Clokemanhandling opponents and Chris Dawes doinglikewise in the Magpies' forward 50 explains thefaith in Collingwood to get the job done inSeptember. You see, while the Cats havegoalkickers all over the park, the reigning premiershave the league's most dominant twin towers. Keyforwards are crucial come finals time. The pressuregoes up a gear and the get-out kick is long to yourtall targets. Cloke and Dawes give Collingwood theedge over their premiership rivals. West Coastdon't have a bad set-up either, mind you. ButGeelong are still trying to find the combination forSeptember and Hawthorn will have to do it withoutJarryd Roughead.

Ricky Stuart fears DarrenLockyer's farewell Originmatch cou ld back f i reagainst his NSW side.

    New South Walesco a ch R i cky S tu a r t i santicipating a State of Originambush amid the hysteria

surrounding Queensland greatDarren Lockyer's Maroons'swansong in the series decider.

Having been a part ofWally Lewis' emotional Originfarewell in 1991, Stuart said heis hoping history will not repeatitself on Wednesday weekbefore a parochial Lang Parkcrowd.

"It happened to me in1991 - I was a player, it wasone-all, we were headed toBrisbane, it was Wally Lewis'last game and the wholeenvironment changed," Stuartsaid.

"It was all about Wally,as it's going to be about Darren.

"Everything that can bea hurdle is going to be thrown atus when we get to Brisbane.

"In 1991, it was like wewere invited to the party, but weweren't allowed to have a beeror dance with anyone. We werejust there for the party.

    "I just really hope this

doesn't happen in thisgame - there's two teamsthere.

"The occasion won't betoo big for my players. I justhope the occasion won't be toobig for other people that areinvolved."

    The Brisbane finale

was always going to be aspecial affair the momentLockyer announced this wouldbe his final year of rugbyleague.

New South Wales'ability to square the seriesheading into the decider hasonly added to the drama, withQueensland's five-year run aschampions in very real dangerof coming to an end.

Stuart does not needthe 'Lockyer factor' to prompt asiege mentality heading intogame three.

The Blues coach is stillupset at a quirk in the NRLscheduling which will see asmany as eight of the players henamed in his 20-man squad onSunday playing for St GeorgeIllawarra or Manly on Mondaynight.

"Our whole preparationhas been turned upside downgoing into the game - the mostimportant game of the series,"
