If you discover a fire•SOUND THE ALARM USING THE NEAREST FIRE ALARM
CALL POINT•LEAVE THE BUILDING BY THE NEAREST FIRE EXIT
•DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING•REPORT TO THE ASSEMBLY POINT
•THE FIRE MARSHALL WILL CALL THE FIRE BRIGADE•LIAISE WITH THE FIRE BRIGADE ON THEIR ARRIVAL
•ONLY ATTEMPT TO TACKLE SMALL FIRES IF CONFIDENT TO DO SO
•DO NOT PUT YOURSELF AT RISK
If you hear the fire alarm
• LEAVE THE BUILDING BY THE NEAREST EXIT• DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING• REPORT TO THE ASSEMBLY POINT• THE FIRE MARSHALL WILL CALL THE
FIRE BRIGADE IF REQUIRED• LIAISE WITH THE FIRE BRIGADE ON THEIR

Customers & Visitors
• ENSURE ALL CUSTOMERS, VISITORS AND CONTRACTORS ARE TAKEN TO THE ASSEMBLY POINT• ASSIST ANY DISABLED PERSONS WITH THEIR
EVACUATION AS NECESSARY• ENSURE THAT ALL PERSONS EVACUATING VIA THE
REAR EXITS ARE DIRECTED TO THE MAIN ASSEMBLY POINT.

Plan. If the CEO is not on site, then the next person down, who is present, will take charge

Raising the alarm
There are different ways of raising the alarm if you discover a fire:• Break Glass• Dial 999
• Phone KUSCO security 66666• Fire/Smoke detectors
Fire Alarm Testing
The University is responsible for testing our fire alarms and they do this weekly on the
following days;Penrhyn Road – Tuesday approx 10am
Kingston Hill – Wednesday approx 11amKnights Park – Thursday approx 9am
Your Roles & Responsibilities
If safe to do so you must;• Check all areas for customers/staff such as
toilets, Subway, offices• Assist in the evacuation of the
disabled/injured • Notify the Fire Brigade of any body you
believe to be trapped inside
Fire ExtinguishersOnly ever attempt to fight a
fire if it is safe to do so and the fire is in its early stages – EVACUATION SHOULD BE
STARTED AS SOON AS A FIRE IS DISCOVERED AND IS ALWAYS
THE BEST POLICY.
If you are going to fight the fire always test the fire extinguisher before approaching
the fire.

Be Pro-Active• Empty bins regularly
• Clean and empty ashtrays every 30 minutes• Pathways and fire exits are clear and unlocked• Extinguishers are accessible and usable• You alert managers/supervisors of faulty
electrics/appliance
Be Prepared
• Know your escape route• Know the number to phone KUSCO Security
66666• Know the address of your venue• Know your Fire Assembly Point
• Ensure the safety of people before property
Don't be stupid!
• Ensure that any evacuation is calm and orderly
• Never return to the building until told to do so by the Fire Brigade / Fire Marshalls
• Never smoke around combustible substances or gases
• NEVER PUT YOURSELVES OR OTHERS AT RISK!
KUSU’s Responsibilities to youKUSU and Kingston University, as our landlord, promise
to do the following to prevent the risk of fire;
• Test the fire alarm system weekly• Conduct fire risk assessments regularly
• Provide & maintain fire fighting equipment• Maintain and inspect all electrical
appliances regularly
