Sigma Phi Epsilon Headquarters has officially accredited KU SigEp as a Sigma Phi Epsilon Residential Learning Community. KU SigEp has been seeking accreditation as a Residential Learning Community for several years. Only a very small percentage of SigEp chapters achieve this distinction. The Residential Learning Community program is unique to SigEp in the fraternity world. Patterned after residential colleges that originally started at Oxford University, it encourages chapters to become living- learning communities, adding continuous learning and faculty interaction to SigEp’s already strong competence at fostering brotherhood, lifelong friendships, and building social and leadership skills. Sigma Phi Epsilon Residential Learning Community Chapters must meet the following criteria: An active Faculty Fellow A chapter GPA above the all-campus average, and a minimum GPA member- ship standard of 2.75 Separate space devoted to academic pursuits in the chapter house A policy for substance free common areas and academic spaces Innovative academic programming consistent with the ideals of the Residential Learning Community A superior Alumni Volunteer Corporation Board Engagement and support from the University KU SigEp’s accreditation is the result of a significant effort by the chapter and alumni board in adopting high academic standards, and in engag- ing KU faculty in the daily operation of the chapter. KU SigEp offers tutoring in the chapter house, innovative leadership programs, and a chapter house that features learning space, an expanded computer center, a faculty office, and classroom/ chapter meeting room. house, at 14th and Tennessee, wasfondly referred to as the “BrownPalace.” Today, Brother Craig said thathe is “extremely proud and impressedby all of SigEp’s recent accomplish-ments and awards” and that he “valueshis many SigEp friendships.”

KU SigEp is proud to call “Mr.Kansas,” Ben Craig, a Brother!

2010 KU SigEpJames NaismithOutstanding AlumnusOne of KU SigEp’s most prominentmembers, Ben Craig, was honored asthe 2010 James Naismith OutstandingAlumnus at the KU SigEp BusinessLunch (see photos, page 3).

Often referred to as “Mr. Kansas”or “Mr. Johnson County,” Brother Craighas been a pillar in the growth andsuccess of Johnson County. He iscredited helping start Johnson CountyCommunity College. Whether theCollege, a nearby park, a new school, oran air center, there are few JohnsonCounty projects in the past 50 yearsthat have advanced without Ben Craig’squiet leadership. Professionally, he hasbeen with Metcalf Bank for almost 50years, serving as CEO for most of thoseyears. Prior to his business career, heplayed semi-pro baseball with ateammate named Mickey Mantle!

During his undergraduate days atKU, SigEp was transitioning from thehouse that it was forced to sell whilemost members were away servingduring WWII (Delta Gamma’s currenthouse), and SigEp’s current location at1645 Tennessee. Craig said that interim

Believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, LeadEp Leadership and Self Development

Conference was hosted by alumni of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at the University of

Kansas. The conference featured over 26 KU student organizations, and outside profes-

sional speakers to assist SigEp with personal development, involvement on campus as well

as developmental leadership skills. The one day conference featured resume and interview-

ing skills, etiquette training, student involvement and networking.

KU SigEp takes the Gold in Rock Chalk Revue 2010Rock Chalk Revue is a campus-wide variety show andphilanthropy event. This weekend marked the 61st yearof the program. Campus living organizations, includinggreek houses, are paired together in April for the nextyear’s event and instructed to create a 20-minute musicalshow. In November, twelve groups auditioned and fivegroups were selected as finalists to perform on the bigstage at KU Lied Center in March.
