FOREWORDFOREWORDKTM STAYS IN THE FAST LANE AND KEEPS THE THROTTLE OPEN! Yes, we could hardly wait to get to the im-portant trade fairs in Cologne and Milan to give the media, the expert public and mo-torcycle enthusiasts from all over the world a powerful impression of the new KtM range. Literally! although we always keep developing our models and technologies, some things never change here in Mattig-hofen. that goes especially for our enthusi-asm for motorcycle sports. it is, and remains, the driving force behind the development of each and every KtM mo-del. as the market leader in motocross and enduro motorcycles, as well as a successful and ambitious challenger on the tarmac, the company will once again expand its commitment in 2013 – in every respect.

KtM wouldn't be KtM if racing was not the key for this expansion. Like no other brand, we use the challenges in motor sports as a learning experience on a daily basis. to us, “ready to race” is not a hollow marketing claim but the life we at KtM live every day. Be it in the forests of the enduro WC or in american Supercross arenas, in the dakar rallye or in Moto3 and Superbike racing, on the MX tracks all over the world and the boulder-strewn ascents of the erzberg on our doorstep – we keep learning, every-where, every day. and again and again, we weave the experience of triumphant suc-cess and bitter defeat into the practical re-ality of our motorcycle developments.

KtM places a special focus on its customer sports programme, undeniably the most comprehensive in the motorcycle industry. always closely monitoring our customers' hard-beating hearts, we live the product from behind the handlebars because – and all KtM riders should be able to experience that in their own bikes – we love our job!

neW adVentUreS in SiGHtWhen KtM decided to ride into the desert ten yeas ago to win the world's toughest race with a completely new two-cylinder called “LC8 adventure”, and put that plan into action in a convincing manner, nobody had any inkling that they had just seen the birth of a completely new category of motorbikes “Made in austria”.

With the launch of the first-generation ad-venture, KtM managed to bridge the gap between tarmac and off-road. More than 40,000 units sold prove: it was the right way to go. now we are about to show you the next milestone, heralding where that way leads us next. the result of our developers' work is logical and uncompromising: as of 2013, we offer a choice of two adventure models, both with the typical KtM dna, but taking on two very different forms.

1190 adVentUreaggressively, the brand-new bike storms into the large segment of tarmac-oriented travel enduros. in the best KtM tradition, the latest adventure's beating heart is a powerful LC8 two-cylinder. the extremely light four-valve engine delivers a potent 150 hp (110 KW) and 125 nm of torque from 1.195 cc of displacement. the focus of engine development was not so much brutal power but maximum rideability at every pace. this means the latest LC8's scope spans the complete range from a tourist's unhurried roaming to powering headlong through the twisties. Such a wide range became possible not the least thanks to a ground-breaking electronics package employed for the very first time. as befit such a bike, the 1190 adventure rolls on sticky sport touring tires in the dimensions 120/70-19 and 170/60-17.

eVen More adVentUre…1190 adVentUre rBased on the original idea behind the ad-venture, the 1190 adventure has been es-calated even different in Mattighofen. the “r” denotes the true soul of the original KtM adventure – raw, spartan, a fantastic bike for riders as skilful as they are demanding – simply unrivaled in terms of offroad competence. With a suspension tailored to these requirements in every aspect and with bespoke, fine-tuned rider assistance systems, the adventure r is the bike for those who take the notion of “ad-venture” literally. the 21 (front) and 18 inch (rear) wheels can be fitted with knob-by tires if so desired, dramatically expand-ing this bike’s range of use.

naKed BiKe offenSiVeBesides the two brand new adventure mo- dels, KtM launches two more new bikes in the naked bike segment for model year 2013.

following the 125 duke and 690 duke models, which turned out highly successful right from the start, now comes a bike that will prove the golden mean for many motor-cyclists: the 390 duke. Sporty, nimble, light, economical and safe – that’s the new bike in a nutshell. at 44 hp max power and weighing in at 150 kilograms fully fuelled, the 390 duke is predestined for speedy progress through urban traffic as well as on back roads. With its extremely low weight, sophisticated ergonomics and the newly developed aBS braking system, the new model is not just one of the most dynamic, but also one of the most reasonable bikes of our times. and by the way, the 125 duke and 200 duke models also come with aBS brakes in 2013, which means nothing else than another world premier.

in addition, the duke model family gets dynamic support from the new 690 duke r. Closely related to the racing bike used in the european Junior Cup since 2012, in the best „ready to race“ tradition, all things that make you fast are already stand-ard on this ultra-light Single.

finally, KtM dares cast a glimpse ahead into the immediate future, revealing excit-ing prospects from every perspective. Un-veiled on the eiCMa 2012, the prototype of the 1290 Super duke r shows just what the KtM development centre and the Kiska design team could put on wheels if you just let them. extreme in every respect, this bike makes you do one thing before all others: want KtM – want to ride bikes.

KTM 390 DUKE reduced to the max! the new KtM 390 duke has everything that has always made great bikes great: sufficient power, ample torque, and low costs at an extremely low weight. it handles extremely well and comes into its own wherever nimble agility is called for. in short: no other bike offers more riding fun for your money than the 390 duke! at a full 44 hp from 375 cc of displacement, it’s head and shoulders above its 200 cc sister model, while the chassis has of course been enhanced to cope with the extra oomph. Still, the new 390 duke weighs in at less than 150 kilo-grams fully fuelled – not only raising its dynamics above many a higher-capacity bike but also making it a sporty alternative to pricey maxi scooters.

A NEW FAMILY MEMBER the duke family tree struck roots already in 1994, when the first fully-fledged KtM street bike, the original duke, came into the world of motorcycles. to the present day, the duke has seen four evolutionary stages, reaching its preliminary peak with the r-Version of the current 690 duke. 2011 for the first time saw a smaller offspring in form of the ex-tremely successful 125 duke, which prompt-ly went to the top of the european sales charts, selling more than 10,000 units in the first year of its existence. in the spring of 2012, the 200 duke followed, and now the 390 duke closes the gap to the larger models 690 duke and 990 Super duke r. and we can already tell you – this family is going to get still bigger in future!

ENGINE & CHASSIS thanks to the typical, compact KtM design, the 390 duke’s highly sophisticated single cylinder engine weighs in at only 36 kilo-grams. two overhead camshafts, four valves, a forged piston and a nikasil-coated cylinder ensure, among other things, that the 375 cc are good for 44 horsepower. the power- enhancing force feed lubrication with crank case evacuation lowers the crank drive’s roll-ing resistance, contributing to the powerful torque. the ultra-light trellis frame and cast-aluminium swingarm round off a compact package. top quality suspension compo-nents by WP Suspension, disc brakes de- veloped by Brembo and the disengageable 9MB aBS by Bosch are standard and add even more riding dynamics, as well as safety while powering through the twisties.

690 DUKE R

KTM 690 DUKE R the most sophisticated, most refined and most powerful single cylinder engine in the world not only provides the 690 duke with unbelievable riding fun, it also delivered exhilarating performance to the KtM racers used in the 2012 edition of the european Junior Cup, held in the context of the World Superbike series. the new 690 duke r is not just the spitting image of that eJC racer. this formidable flicking tool for absolute pros and connoisseurs also bene-fits from the same suspension. the “r” chassis is higher, with stiffer springs and more damping than the 690 duke. But above all, it is widely adjustable in order to span the complete bandwidth, from a relaxed back-roads swing to no-holds-barred race track mayhem.

READY TO RACE WITH SLICKS the new, fully adjustable Upside-down forks of the 690 duke r are distinguished by a complete separation of the rebound damping (in the right fork tube) from the compression damping stage (in the left tube) as well as new, orange anodized, machined triple clamps. all this ensures a sensitive fork re-sponse, the prerequisite for optimum grip even in extreme situations. the new WP rear shock with external reservoir also offers all conceivable set-up options, even including separate high and low speed compression adjustments. thusly equipped, the 690 duke r’s suspension is as well suited for a comfor-table ride on third-rate back roads as for ambitious track duty on slicks.

ONLY THE BEST OF EVERYTHING the Brembo brakes of the new 690 duke r also set new standards: machined from solid high-strength aluminium, the new radial M50 calliper is six per cent lighter than the previous top product and even more rigid. Combined with the bespoke, radial master cylinder, it ensures a sensi-tive action, top brake force and first-rate feedback. the Bosch 9M+ aBS with roll-over protection as seen in the 690 duke has gained an additional Supermoto mode in the “r” operable by dongle, in which the rear wheel is allowed to lock up or slide despite the aBS. and that’s by no means the end of it: the features list of the new 690 duke r extends from the exclusive akrapovic silencer, to new footpegs and handlebars for aggressive but relaxed ergo-nomics, to standard crash bars.

1190 ADVENTURE

KTM 1190 ADVENTURE Pure passion drives everyone at KtM each and every day. Pure bikes are the result. We have been working and developing non-stop, prototypes have circled the earth thirty times – and now the time has come: With the new adventure generation, KtM sets new standards in the travel seg-ment! More than a decade ago, the first adventure from Mattighofen was launched – with dna from the same KtM that won the rallye dakar eleven times in a row. the uncompromising transfer of knowl-edge from racing to mass production en-sured that the KtM adventures have al-ways stayed ahead of the rest of the world. With plenty of new highlights, the latest KtM 1190 adventure generation now de-fines new benchmarks to leave the compe-tition behind on the asphalt.

an impartial comparison proves that the two new KtM adventure models are the lightest and most powerful bikes in their class. the foundations are their ultra-light, extremely strong chrome molybde-num steel trellis frame and their 1195 cc, 150 hp V2 engine. High-end suspension components by WP Suspension, peerless brakes by global market leader Brembo and assistance systems developed in close co-operation with Bosch round of the package, giving the new KtM 1190 adventure a clear lead in dynamics and safety from the start. its weight of only 230 kilograms – ready to race with fuel, that goes without saying – will help it maintain that lead.

the 1190 adventure need not fear any competition on the road. and were it not for the 1190 adventure r, it would also be the most off-road capable of all travel enduros!

POWERTRAIN – SUPERIOR THROUGH HIGH TECH the potent V2 engine with 1195 cc of dis-placement stems from the KtM Superbike 1190 rC8 r, delivering everything a top-class travel enduro needs: lots of low-end torque for off-road riding, lots of punch for touring at full payload, and 150 hp power for crunch time. Sophisticated technology helps adapt the Superbike twin to its new mission in the adventure: the dual ignition lowers fuel con-sumption and emissions while ensuring refine-ment at low engine speeds, the drive-by-wire ensures a perfect delivery of the ample torque, and the Motorcycle traction Control MtC pro-vides dynamic, yet fully controlled traction on every surface and in every situation.

MtC can be switched off and has four differ-ent riding modes, allowing different degrees of slippage at the flick of a switch on the left handlebar: absolute control through minimal slippage in “rain” mode, smooth slippage in “street” mode, controlled rear wheel spin in “sport” mode and 100% slippage for commit-ted off-road riding, as soon as the switch is set to “off-road”. a yellow Led on the brand new Vdo multifunctional display starts flashing whenever the traction control engages. in ad-dition, a new anti-hopping clutch eliminates annoying rear-wheel chatter under heavy brak-ing while at the same time lowering manual clutch force. this makes the 1190 adventure

not just lighter, more powerful and more pre-dictable than ever: thanks to an increased mileage, a 23 litre tank and longer service intervals up to 15,000 km, it also needs to stop less often.

CHASSIS – KEEPING AHEAD THROUGH PERFECTION it goes without saying that the latest adven-ture generation leaves nothing to be desired in stability and predictability, thanks to its ultra-light but extremely strong trellis frame, the high-strength die-cast swing arm and the top quality suspension components by WP Suspension. Smaller wheels – 19 inch front, 17 inch rear – wider tires and a slight-ly shorter travel suspension optimize the talents of the latest 1190 adventure on as-phalt. and the fully adjustable suspension ensures that you neither have to forego top comfort when calmly touring nor accept a bouncing rear end when scorching down the twisties. fine tuning at its most comfortable

is provided by the optional electronic damp-ing System edS: a switch on the handlebar, depending on the bike load lets the rider choose between four levels of spring pre-load as well as three corresponding damper settings (Comfort, Street, Sport).

in addition, the standard combined anti-lock braking system C-aBS means that on the new adventure models, you are prepared for any eventuality. on one hand, it auto-matically deploys the rear brake whenever the front brake is used, optimizing braking stability. on the other, C-aBS can not just be switched off but also has an off-road

mode that allows to lock up the rear wheel – a decisive advantage in cross-country riding. finally, the optional tire pressure measurement system tPMS warns the rider in case of pressure loss, while class-leading ergonomics mean riders of every size are comfortable on the new 1190 adventure: seat height, handlebars, foot pegs and wind-shield are all adjustable.

1190 ADVENTURE R

1190 ADVENTURE R the new 1190 adventure r is the one and only choice for everybody unwilling to compromise off-road on their travel endu-ro. Larger wheels – 21 inches front, 18 inch rear – a full 220 millimetres of sus-pension travel front and rear as well as rougher tire treads distinguish the r from the 1190 adventure, optimizing cross country mobility. to compensate for slight-ly higher steering forces, it has wider han-dlebars; because of the longer suspension travel, seat height is higher; and there is a sturdy crash bar for increased protection. in addition, a lower windshield and differ-ent graphics help distinguish the r from its sister model.

of course, forks and shock of the 1190 adventure r are fully adjustable. of course, it also has the revolutionary com-bined C-aBS antilock brakes and the four-stage traction control MtC, which can both be disengaged all – or riding can be enjoyed in the worlds first ever offroad mode.

Without a doubt, the 1190 adventure r is the most off-road capable two-cylinder en-duro. and were it not for the 1190 adven-ture, it would also be the fastest travel enduro on asphalt!

1290 SUPER DUKE RPROTOTYPE KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R – EICMA 2012 Before glimpsing the fascinating future of the Super duke, a short flashback: in 2005, the first pure street twin with the name Super duke rolls out of the KtM halls and changes the world of motorcycles. ex-tremely agile and muscular, the bike lives up to its name – an unmistakable machine, with an aggressive sound, a bike to fit no pre-conceived notions and keeping out of no competitor’s way. over the years, the Su-per duke gets even hotter. its power in-creases – as does its fan community.

the success of this uniquely dynamic mo-torbike confirms the veracity of KtM’s commitment to the naked Bike, opening the door for further models. the merciless street fighter becomes the leader of a veri-table pack of exhilarating bikes – all of them light, pure, top quality, and all with-out fairings. in 2011, KtM hits the bull’s eye of the small displacement segment with the 125 duke. almost 10,000 motor-cyclists hop up, by no means just begin-ners. Just a year later, KtM stages another energetic escalation with the upgraded entry-level version 200 duke, and puts the latest LC4 generation of the 690 duke onto the grid – with well-known ingredi-ents for maximum riding fun; with plenty of Single thrust at minimal weight; but also with more practicality, thanks to drive-by-Wire and aBS. another year later, there comes the athletic 690 duke r, while at the same time, the brand new 390 duke makes ready – a reasonable fun bike that will bring incredible enjoyment to riders all over the world.

eVerYtHinG PoSSiBLeSo far, so good: 125, 200, 390, 690 and 990 cubic centimetres. But things don’t need to end there, even if nobody can make a case for more displacement purely based on rational considerations. rather, it’s about enjoying power in abundance, about crazy acceleration, about tires screaming for mercy, about pushing the limits of phys-ics. out of passion for the world of ex-tremes. the world of KtM. the world of the new Super duke.

SUPer dUKe onePointtHreeat the eiCMa 2012, KtM showcases the prototype of the future 1290 Super duke r – a machine whose entrance needs no ex-planation and which shouts the very es-sence of the KtM philosophy unfiltered into the world’s face through two open megaphones. the creators of this concept are not about complying with regulations and legal provisions. they are about show-ing what happens when the best techni-cians, designers and riders are unleashed in Mattighofen.

the developers started with another hefty rebore of the rC8 r engine in order to give it maximum punch. around this two-cylin-der elemental force, they fitted a tight suit tailored from light steel pipes, completing the chassis with a single-sided swing arm and the finest suspension components from the WP Suspension prototype devel-opment, as well as racing wheels, racing brakes and racing tires. to this they added the finest carbon parts, countless working hours, and spilled sweat by the bucket. More sweat, more commitment, then final-ly, cheers. Job done. rollout in Milan.

Wide oPen tHrottLethe best news comes last: KtM is already working on the production version of the 1290 Super duke r, with that same enthu-siasm. a good reason to look forward to 2013 – to the first press testride on the new Super duke r.

350 EXC-FTHE HIGH-FLYERKtM has transferred the successful MX WC recipe to the enduro WC. the 350 eXC-f combines the ultra-responsive agility of a 250 with the perfect perfor-mance of a 450. the result is truly inspiring – Chris-tobal “Chris” Guerrero finished the 2011 season as e2 vice champion and 2012 as e2 world champion! for 2013 the engine cases are produced in high pressure die cast instead of sand cast which allows a massive weight reduction by thinner walls. the ddS clutch (damped diaphragm Steel) reduces weight, too, and is smaller than a conventional clutch. the reworked 2013 chassis of the 350 eXC-f comes with new wheels manufactured in Mattighofen. new Maxxis tyres – especially developed for KtM – pro-vide excellent traction, very precise directional con-trol and a long service life. all this makes the 350 eXC-f a profoundly superior enduro. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro – the new 350 eXC-f climbs like a small bike but pulls like a big one.

EXC SIX DAYS FINLANDFOR THE TOUGHEST ASSIGNMENTSthe legendary Six days. once a reliability trial, first held in 1913 on the Scottish border, over the de-cades they developed into one of the largest, most demanding off-road motorcycle events. and for de-cades, KtM has proven that its products are among the best in the world at this most prestigious event of the international enduro scene. the 87th interna-tional Six days was held in Saxony late in September. after six days the enduro World spoke french, with strong austrian accent. Because france won with the three KtM factory riders antoine Meo, Johnny aubert and the overall winner Christophe nambotin the cov-eted World enduro trophy. once again more than half of the competitors put their trust in the bikes from Mattighofen. at crunch time, nobody wants to skimp on the material. our homage to the unique event is the “Six days” special edition, factory equipped with a host of practical accessories.

FREERIDE

FREERIDE EGETTING HIGH ON VOLTAGEas the world’s first motorcycle manufacturer, KtM of-fers a racing off-road bike with electric drive. Globally unique in its radicalness, the freeride e is extremely light, highly dynamic and powerful while delivering locally emission free and virtually noiseless propul-sion with its electric powertrain. a 300 V battery, power electronics developed by KtM and a brushless synchronous motor “Made in Mattighofen” which de-livers a peak power of up to 22 kW make for a high-performance powertrain and extreme riding fun that is not limited to tight and twisty tracks. With its 42 nm of torque, which – typical of electric motors – is avail-able right off the start, it needs not to fear combus-tion-driven competitors. thanks to its water-cooling, the freeride e’s performance will not reach its limits, no matter how difficult the terrain may be. Making for up to an hour of maximum electric power, 2.1kWh of energy storage mean unstoppable riding enjoyment. after that, riders who still have not enough can simply swap the battery thanks to a special quick change system, and are ready to go again in no time – and fully recharge the empty battery within 90 minutes. thanks to its high-torque electric motor, the freeride e is very easy to ride as it has neither a gearbox nor a clutch. With the first zero emission motorbike, the global leader in off-road sports motorcycles has gone on the offensive and proves that riding fun and envi-ronmental sustainability can be perfectly compatible.

1190 ADVENTURE THE WORLD’S MOST VERSATILE TRAVEL ENDUROthe KtM engineers made no compromise when it came to giving the MY 2013 adventure even more performance, versatility, on-road agility and comfort. they adapted the KtM rC8 r's 1190 cc superbike V2, which generates 150 hp in the 1190 adventure. they optimized on-road handling also by smaller wheels and wider tires. they reduced the seat height by using just a little less suspension travel. they en-hanced comfort by making the foot pegs, seat height, handle bars and wind shield adjustable. they in-creased the 1190 adventure’s range by enlarging the tank to 23 litres. and they added some sophisticated riding assistance systems: an aBS you can switch off and that also has an off-road mode which allows lock up of the rear wheel; a traction control you can also switch off and that gives you the choice of four differ-ent settings for rain, street, sport and off-road; and an electronic suspension offering four different spring pre-loads and three matching damper settings at the push of a button. the strong KtM trellis frame, the top quality suspension components and the powerful brakes round off a comprehensive package. alpine pass or coastal road, German autobahn or Belgian parvay, rural twisties or urban jungle – the new 1190 adventure is the ultimate travel enduro for the adven-tures on the roads all over the world.

200 DUKETHE RE-DISCOVERY OF LIGHTNESSthe 200 duke proves that engine capacity is not a suitable criteria for riding pleasure and corner speed. Based on the state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder four stroke engine of the 125 duke, modifi-cations have been made for the 200 duke to gener-ate 60 % more displacement and correspondingly fully developed power to the tune of 26 horses. new camshafts, bigger valves, a larger piston, a com-pletely new crankshaft, new airbox, and new exhaust layout result in a bike that offers punchy torque with irresistible smoothness. the intricate engine design, state-of-the-art injection electronics and the close-ratio, six-speed transmission not only help the 200 duke to achieve impressive performance, but also very moderate fuel consumption. thanks to the regu-lated catalytic converter, it produces only minimal emissions. the first-class chassis, with light-weight trellis frame in the proven KtM design, turns the 200 duke into a real surfer through the curves. Weight grouped close to the centre of gravity maxi-mizes maneuverability and precision. the 200 duke has everything that distinguishes a genuine KtM – from the high-quality chassis components to the multi-function cockpit, and for 2013 even a disen-gageable antilocking system.

390 DUKETHE SLEEPERMore than meets the eye – that is the basic idea behind the new 390 duke! the result is a motorcy-cle with the dimensions and weight of a 125, but the power and the performance of a veritable sport bike. the completely new built engine turned out extremely compact despite its 375 cc of displace-ment thanks to sophisticated design details like ver-tically stacked transmission shafts. in fact, it’s so compact that the 390 duke uses the same ultra-light trellis frame as its sister models. Combined with its low weight of only 148 kilograms fully fuelled, this ensures absolutely superior handling qualities. for the state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine, the austrian designers pulled out all the stops, from the four-valve cylinder head with dLC coated finger followers, to the dry-sump lubri-cation with crankcase evacuation, to a three-way catalytic converter, in order to combine 32 kW (44 hp) of maximum power with impressive refinement, extreme reliability and great ecological credentials. WP Suspension components matched to the dynam-ic performance, as well as a top quality braking sys-tem with disengageable aBS ensure top precision, full control and maximum safety – perfect condi-tions for unlimited riding enjoyment. riders of much larger sport bikes will be left amazed!

690 DUKETHE NEW ESSENCE OF MOTORCYCLINGBack then, KtM revived the pure, unadulterated single-cylinder motorcycle in the form of the "origi-nal" duke. Judging by the latest 690 duke that stands before us today, much has been gained: smoothness, room for a pillion passenger, long-dis-tance ability. But what it has never lost is its inten-sive and elemental ride dynamics. the secret: a cylinder head with dual ignition and individual, selective mappings for each plug make our most popular engine the best duke powertrain ever. the result: a whopping 68 hp, a mountain of torque, as well as a throttle response and nVH on the level of multi-cylinder engines. an extremely rigid and super-light trellis frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel sections, a new, state-of-the-art Bosch 9M+ aBS with an extremely dynamic tuning, and now even lighter wheels ensure precision and stability in every situation. these are only a few of the points that make the 690 duke a true do-it-all bike, inde-scribably versatile despite all the hunger for corners. But be careful: the lightness of being single can be addictive, because every trip on the 690 duke is an incomparable and unforgettable riding experience.

690 DUKE RFOR ROAD AND TRACKif the versatility of the 690 duke can be beat at all, then by the new 690 duke r. its top quality suspen-sion components by WP Suspension are adjustable with such amazing flexibility that the set-up charac-ter can be varied all the way from “comfortable” to “race ready“. the “r” chassis can neither be over-extended by race track use on slicks with the corre-sponding, extreme cornering speeds nor by the in-credible deceleration of the new Brembo braking system. the exclusive akrapovic slip-on not just saves weight but also bestows the dynamic single with two additional horsepower and even more bite. the higher chassis and the raised foot pegs make for even deeper lean angles, while the sporty yet relaxed riding position is as well suited to road riding as it is to track racing. the 690 duke r’s aBS can stay on even on the track – thanks to the Super-moto mode that allows the rear wheel to lock up while still controlling the front wheel. Should, in the heat of battle, a ground contact ensue despite the immense potential, standard crash bars protect the first-rate equipment.

X-BOW RTHE BENCHMARK IN THE SUPER SPORTS CAR SEGMENTWhen the X-BoW was launched in 2008, it was a milestone in the history of the KtM brand and at the same time a new reference in the small but elite seg-ment of radical lightweight sports cars. from the be-ginning KtM has relied on premium materials, high tech and specialized know-how for the first car it has produced. the result is a sports car with purebred racing technology that is approved for road use. in-cluded is an avant-garde monocoque made from car-bon fibre such as is standard in formula one be-cause of its safety and weight advantage. through the complete omission of electronic driving assist systems and comfort features, the X-BoW offers pur-ist driving pleasure that can only find its equivalent in either riding a motorcycle or driving a formula rac-ing car. the X-BoW r is the most powerful version of the austrian super sports car so far and it is the result of concentrated development. in the rear of the "r", there is a 300 hp 2.0 litre tfSi engine from audi with a maximum torque of 400 nm ensuring an un-believable driving experience both on and off the rac-ing circuit – the X-BoW r is of course homologated for use on the road.

450 RALLYSERIAL WINNEReleven times in a row, victory at the notorious rallye dakar has now gone to KtM. Since the displace-ment reduction to 450 cc, the KtM 450 rally is the bike to beat – it was no accident that the last two years Marc Coma and Cyril despres triumphed with this bike at what probably is the toughest motorcy-cle race of the planet, and there is a reason why much more than half of the grid has been using bikes from Mattighofen for years. for two years now, KtM has been offering a fully prepared race bike for ambitious rally pilots, the exclusive replica version of the factory 450 rally – tested by factory riders and 100 per cent “ready to race”. Made in the smallest numbers with only the finest components, the KtM 450 rally is built by hand in Mattighofen. Clad in a striking, all-white finish, the serial winner finally departs the Mattighofen plant after countless working hours, headed for the racing customer. ready for the painter, and prepared for the last true adventures remaining on planet earth. Please in-quire for further information about the KtM 450 rally at [email protected] – please also direct any orders directly to KtM Motorsport.

KTM RACING

Page 102: KTM modelos 2013

Media inforMationModeL Year 2013 112

MOTORSPORT 2013 What environment could be better suited to thoroughly testing an engine and a chassis than a racing circuit of off-road terrain? Which test laboratory could be better equipped to drive forward advanced develop-ments? and how better could you demon-strate the passion and expertise of your engin-eers? Passion, fascination and a desire for ongoing improvement drive KtM and all of its employees. it‘s only logical that a company like this has been dedicated to racing ever since it was founded. KtM has always been and will always be ‘ready to race’.

it all began in the 1950s when Paul Schwarz and erich trunkenpolz, son of KtM founder Hans trunkenpolz, roared their way to victory and second place on 125cc KtMs in the international rupert Hollaus Memorial race. the Mattighofen team was involved in motor-sports long before it entered the world of offroad racing, in which it is now recognized as a dominant force worldwide. What followed was a story of development and success that is unique in the world of motorcycles.

KtM riders all over the world subsequently went in to battle for the manufacturer from Mattighofen in austria. Up to the time of printing they have secured a magnificent 221world titles on all types of terrain to continue the KtM success story and stamp the hall-mark orange brand on the consciousness of motorsports aficionados all over the world. KtM have also been a dominant force in the legendary dakar rallye having won the epic race, widely considered the world’s toughest, 11 consecutive times after the turn of the millennium.

as the 2012 racing season draws to a close KtM has also completely dominated the Motocross World Championship classes with tony Cairoli winning his sixth world title, thethird consecutive in the MX1 class on the

KtM 350 SX-f and Jeffrey Herlings ending up first in the MX2 World championship series for the first time, giving to the KtM 250 SX-f the fifth World title in a row. US superstar ryan dungey wins the american MX championship on KtM for the first time in an impressive manner after conquering early this year the first Supercross class vic-tory for the austrian brand on his 450 SX-f. in the Junior MX WC, young dutchman Caleb Grothues and Slovenian tim Gajser win the titles in the 65 cc and 125 cc classes, respectively.

in the World of enduro, KtM already won in 2012 the World championship title in the e1 class with french star antoine Meo and the e3 class with his country mate Christophe nambotin. in the meanwhile Spanish rider Cristobal Guerrero is still fighting in the e2 class for the final victory. and if yet another piece of evidence for KtM’s clout in motor sports is necessary, just look at the success of numerous KtM riders in the Moto3 WC in year one after KtM’s return to Grand Prix racing. Sandro Cortese, danny Kent, arthur Sissis, Zulfahmi Khairuddin and niklas ajo on the Moto3 KtM from Mattighofen, but also Luis Salom, Brad Binder, Hector faubel, alberto Moncayo, Jonas folger and Luca amato on the KaLeX-KtM of chassis partner from Germany showed the whole season performances on World Championship niveau.

Held in the context of the motorcycle Grand Prix, the red Bull MotoGP rookies Cup is turning into the hottest junior racing series for future GP stars and will change over to the KtM 4-stroke Moto3 racer next season. the series once again highlight KtM’s commitment to junior racing and motor sports. a plethora of enthusiastic employees support KtM‘s commit-ment to racing and enable the company to design and manufacture the best “ready to race” motorcycles for its customers.

PERFORMANCE

EXTREME

PURITY

ADVENTURERacing, offroad or open country roads. KTM is up for any adventure. The very latest technology and high quality parts make a KTM your faithful companion on the road as well as off the beaten track. No goal is unattainable. Because we would never be satisfied with what has already been achieved.

Orange is a warning colour. A KTM is designed for reaching the limits of performance and going beyond. This approach is reflected in the use of state-of-the-art technology and the most radical of designs. The toughest races and most extreme demands are our benchmark. Because only so can a lead be gained.

With thrust out of the corners, push on the straights and effortless handling offroad, a KTM provides power and crystal clear feedback in every riding situati-on. We always compete with the best. Power, the will to win and dominance - on every terrain. Because we know that only performance counts.

Everything for the perfect ride and not a single gram more. On the racetrack, on the road or on the trail, reduction to the bare essentials is the basic principle behind every KTM. Only high quality and well proven parts are fitted. Because this is where less is definitely more.

COMPANY – THE KTM BRAND

Page 106: KTM modelos 2013

Media inforMationModeL Year 2013 116

KTM AS A COMPANY it was 1934 when Hans trunkenpolz founded a repair workshop in Mattighofen, Upper austria. three years later, he started selling dKW motorcycles and subsequently expanded his workshop, which became one of the largest car and motorcycle garages in Upper austria. in 1951, the company start-ed designing a motorcycle of its own and two years later the KtM r 100 production series was launched. the company, which now was officially called “Kronreif, trunk-enpolz, Mattighofen”, immediately took up racing and the successes started piling up.

erwin Lechner was among the riders who enjoyed victory after victory in 1960, rac-ing the KtM motorcycle designed by engi-neer rudolf apfelbeck. KtM entered the US market with a 125cc motocross motor-cycle in 1968, and word of the overseas race wins soon began to circulate in eu-rope.the highlights of the 1970s included the powerful 50 cc models and the first motocross World Championship title, won for KtM in 1974 by russian rider Gennadij Moiseev in the 250 cc class.

riders Heinz Kinigadner and trampas Parker laid the foundations for the modern KtM legend with three World Champion-ship titles in the next decade. in 1984, KtM started to develop a liquid-cooled four-stroke motorcycle, commencing mass production of the first LC4 engine in 1987.the economy hit hard times at the end of the 1980s, and in 1991, the KtM Motor-fahrzeugbau aG had to file for bankruptcy.

one year later, the newly formed KtM mo-torcycle division KtM Sportmotorcycle GmbH re-opened under new management with a new Hard enduro concept and sharp new design styling. Hungry for success, the company began to engage in rallye sport, launched the first duke in 1994 and just

one year later acquired both WP Suspen-sion and the sports motorcycle manufac-turer HUSaBerG. Shane King‘s Motocross World Championship title in the 500 cc class and numerous other victories breathed now life into KtM’s sporting herit-age. in 1999, the company moved into its newly built factory in Mattighofen.

the austrian company has been a dominat-ing force in the legendary dakar rallye since 2001 and after adopting the now well known “ready to race” philosophy it has turned racing into the brand‘s main identi-fying feature. the 950 adventure long-dis-tance, dual-sport motorcycle made its firstappearance in 2003, and in the same year, Harald Bartol led the factory racing team to success in the 125 cc road racing world championship. Shortly afterwards, KtM launched its first thoroughbred street bikes, the 990 Super duke and the 950 Supermoto. 2008 sees the first austrian Superbike, the fascinating 1190 rC8. KtM muscles into the idM Superbike class only one year later, instantly winning the manufacturer’s trophy and conquering the riders’ title already in the second year.

in 2011, the orange revolution continues in style. early in January, Marc Coma wins the tenth consecutive KtM title at the da-kar rallye. a year later, team mate Cyril despres adjusts the internal team score to 4:3. When five-times erzberg winner taddy Blazusiak becomes Superenduro World Champion early in 2012 and starts focus-ing exclusively on his fourth title in the american endurocross series, a new gen-eration takes over on the erzberg: young KtM pilot Jonny Walker wins the world’s toughest single-day enduro. at the same time, the extremely successful introduction of the new freeride 350 paves a different way into the world of enduro for beginners

and hobby riders - because not everything has to be super tough all the time.

While tony Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings dom-inate the MX World Championship and an-toine Meo and Christophe nambotin carve up the enduro WC, newcomer ryan dungey celebrates historical achievements for KtM already in the first few races of the US sea-son on the specially developed 450 SX-f, crowning himself the superior winner of the american MX Championship after a short, injury-induced break and even clinging on to a second place overall in the Supercross World Championship. Meanwhile, Ken roc-zen and Marvin Musquin deliver impressive performances in their first complete season overseas in the small class, consistently per-forming on a world-class level in Supercross as well as Motocross and thereby demon-strating once more the winning potential of the current off-road generation from austria.

on tarmac, KtM enters two huge new ven-ues at once in 2012. firstly, after a short creative break, KtM once more competes in Grand Prix racing, this time in the Moto3 series. Secondly, launching the KtM 200 duke in india and teaming up with partner Bajaj, the company enters the world’s second-largest motorcycle market, which also contributes significantly to the most successful intermediate business result in the corporate history. Prior to the press date, KtM managed to accure no less than 221 World Championship titles. Sandro Cortese finished the 2012 Moto3 season with another milestone for KtM: first Grand Prix title for a KtM rider in road racing!
