WATER SUPPLYSPECIFICATIONS FOR WATER SUPPLY WORK13.1. General13.1.1. Any damage caused to the building, or to electric, sanitary water su ly or other installationsetc. therein either due to negligence on the art o! the contractor, or due to actual re"uirements o! thewor#, shall be made good and the building or the installations shall be restored to its original conditionby the contractor. Nothing e$tra shall be aid !or it, e$ce t where otherwise s eci!ied.13.1.%. All water su ly installation wor# shall be carried out through licensed lumbers.13.1.3. It is most im ortant to ensure that wholesome water su ly ro&ided !or drin#ing and culinary

There shall, there!ore,be no cross connection whatsoe&er between a i e or !itting !or con&eying or containing wholesomewater and a i e or !itting !or con&eying or containing im ure water or water liable to contamination oro! uncertain "uality o! water which has been used !or any ur ose. The ro&ision o! re!lu$ or non'return &al&es or closed and sealed &al&es shall not be construed a ermissible substitute !or com leteabsence o! cross connection.13.1.(. )here a su ly o! wholesome water is re"uired as an alternati&e or stand by to su ly o! less

satis!actory water or is re"uired to be mi$ed with the latter, it shall be deli&ered only into a cistern, andby a i e or !itting discharging into the air ga at a height abo&e the to edge o! the cistern e"ual totwice its nominal bore, and in no case less than 1* cm.13.1.*. No i ing shall be laid or !i$ed so as to ass into, through or ad+oining any sewer, scour outletor drain or any manhole connected therewith nor through any ash it or manure' it or any material o!such nature that would be li#ely to cause undue deterioration o! the i e.13.1. . )here the laying o! any i e through !ouled soil or re&ious material is una&oidable, the i ingshall be ro erly rotected !rom contact with such soil or material by being carried through an e$teriorcast iron tube or by some other suitable means. Any i ing or !itting laid or !i$ed, which does notcom ly with the abo&e re"uirements, shall be remo&ed and re'laid in con!ormity with the abo&e

re"uirements.13.1.-. The design o! the i e wor# shall be such that there is no ossibility o! bac# !low towards thesource o! su ly !rom any cistern or a liance whether by si honage or otherwise, and re!lu$ or non'return &al&es shall not be relied u on to re&ent such bac# !low.13.1. . All i e wor# shall be so designed, laid or !i$ed, and maintained as to be and to remaincom letely watertight, thereby a&oiding waste o! water, damage to ro erty and the ris# o!contamination o! the water con&eyed.13.1./. In designing and lanning the layout o! the i e wor#, due attention shall be gi&en to thema$imum rate o! discharge, re"uired economy in labour and materials, rotection against damageand corrosion, rotection !rom !rost, i! re"uired, and to a&oidance o! airloc#s, noise transmission andunsightly arrangement.13.1.10. To reduce !rictional losses, i ing shall be as smooth as ossible inside. ethods o! +ointingshall be such as to a&oid internal roughness and ro+ection at the +oints, whether o! the +ointingmaterials or otherwise.13.1.11. Change in diameter and in direction shall re!erably be gradual rather than abru t to a&oidundue loss o! head. No bend or cur&e in i ing shall be made so as to materially diminish or alter thecross'section.13.1.1%. 2nderground i ing shall be laid at such a de th that it is unli#ely to be damaged by !rost ortra!!ic loads and &ibrations. It shall not be laid in ground liable to subsidence, but where such groundcannot be a&oided, s ecial recautions shall be ta#en to a&oid damage to the i ing. )here i inghas to be laid across recently disturbed ground, the ground shall be thoroughly consolidated so as to

    ro&ide a continuous and e&en su ort.
