Shepherd’s Message

Jacob Mar BarnabasBishop of Gurgaon

Unity is a must for any witness or proclamation to be true and complete. This is very much necessary for the Christian witness as well. Even though during the Pentecost, the Holy Spirit provided the Apostles with different tongues, what everyone received was the grace of unity; unity of faith in the Risen Lord. This unity made them bold, fearless, compassionate and zealous; to love and live for our Lord Jesus Christ, looking forward to everlasting life, even at the cost of martyrdom. This was the beginning of Evangelisation for which unity became essential. The pioneer of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, Servant of God Archbishop Mar Ivanios also foresaw the need of this unity in faith for proper Evangelisation and Christian Witness in our homeland. As we celebrate his 64th death anniversary, we must strive together for the Spirit of Unity so that we may become true Christian witnesses. As a Mission Diocese, we are obliged to grow in this endeavour of our beloved Ivanios thirumeni. As we prepare for and participate in the pilgrimage to the tomb of this great pioneer of union, let us pray to the Holy Spirit for the grace of unity in faith. This season of Pentecost beckons us for the same. Let us also prepare ourselves to be bold for true Christian witness in and through our lives for we have the reliable examples of the great St. Peter and St. Paul.I wish all a fruitful Mar Ivanios Pilgrimage especially to our new Syro-Malankara Catholic brethren from Odisha, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and the North East. This is matter of great joy for our Diocese as well as the whole Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. I also wish a blessed year ahead for our MCCL children who have entered the new academic year. May all our efforts make us more united in Christ our Lord.May God bless you all,
