“Finite element simulation of effect of residual stresses during orthogonal machining using ALE approach” - Parkash Marimuthu; International Journal. Machining and Machinability of Materials, Vol. 14, No. 3, September, 2013.
This paper presents a finite element model that has been developed to predict the effect of residual stress induced in the work material during multiple pass turning of AISI 4340 steel. Chip morphology and force variation during machining are also quantified using the FE model. Finite element model was developed using arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation along with Johnson-Cook material model and Johnson-Cook damage model. The finite element model developed in this study was validated experimentally by studying the chip morphologogy and cutting force variation during the machining. Results indicate that there is good correlation existing between numerical results and experimental results.
Fig. 1 Experimental setup with Kistler dynamometer Fig. 2 AISI 4340 steel chip comparison
Fig. 1 shows the experimental setup with Kistler dynamometer used to measure the force variation during the orthogonal machining of steel. The force results were correlated with simulation results. FE model developed in this work may be extended for further studies in the following areas:
Development of a thermo-mechanical model to investigate on the temperature effects on machining
Measurement of hardness and residual stress after each pass and a correlation has to be drawn between the two values
Based on the present model and with a few improvements to it, wear model could be developed
3D model may be developed to study the effect of depth of cut on force variations and residual stress.

This paper gives a numerical integration rule for integrating functions over any n-
dimensional cube. The rule is derived using a simple linear transformation of the given n-
cube to a zero-one cube. The prescribed method is proved to be superior in a certain
sense to the existing integration formulae. The performance of the method is illustrated
for different type of integrands over different n-dimensional cubes.

Creation of Parallel Corpora and efficient corporal alignment at sentential level for
structurally distinct languages having relatively low degree of correlation remains a
challenge. This work emphasizes the importance of domain biased parallel data
collection and a structured methodology to obtain the same for English -Hindi language
duet. Further, its sentential alignment has also been undertaken since the participating
languages are structural ly distinct. In essence two aspects of this study is collection of
parallel corpora from different domains and aligning the extracted parallel corpus at
sentence level. The proposition is intended to help researchers in the field of Natural
Language Processing help contribute better in terms of accuracy, precision and
robustness of their proposition. This being possible only with availability of abundant
parallel corpora and more so only if the parallel corpora are available domain wise and
aligned at least at sentence level. The language pair considered for the development of
the algorithm is English - Hindi. The algorithm being generic in nature makes our
proposition scalable to other like structured language pairs.

“Conditions governing the generalization of threshold bound states by N attractive delta potentials in one and three dimensions” - M. Dharani, Basudeb Sahu and C.S. Shastry; Central European Journal August 2013, Volume 11, Issue 8, pp 995-1005, Indexed : Scopus, IF : 0.905, August, 2013.
This paper proves that for N attractive delta function potentials the number of
bound states (Nb ) satisfies 1 ≤ Nb ≤ N in one dimension (1D), and is 0 ≤ Nb ≤ N in three
dimensions (3D). Algebraic equations are obtained to evaluate the bound states generated
by N attractive delta potentials. In particular, in the case of N attractive delta function
potentials having same separation a between adjacent wells and having the same strength
, the parameter governs the number of bound states. For a given N in the
range 1-7, both in 1D and 3D cases the numerical values of gn, where n=1,2,..N are
obtained. When g=gn , Nb ≤ n where Nb includes one threshold energy bound state.
Furthermore, gn are the roots of the Nth order polynomial equations with integer
coefficients. Based on our numerical calculations up to N=40, even when N becomes large,
and and this result is expected to be generally valid. Thus, for g > 4
there will be no threshold or zero energy bound state, and if for a given large N,
the number of bound states will be approximately N/2. The empirical formula
gives a good description of the variation of gn as a function of n. This
formula is useful in estimating the number of bound states for any N and g both in 1D and
3D cases.
