Lesson 2 : Where on Earth ?
A. We use directions
Ex : I am in Europe, I go to Africa : I go South.
Africa is South of Europe.→ Africa is South of Europe.
B. We use maps
The 4 characteristics of a map are :The title of the map : it gives us the theme of the mapThe compass rose : it gives us directionsThe scale : it tells us the distances in realityThe key (or legend) : it explains what is on the map.
A physical map shows landform (relief)A political map shows countries.Countries ≠ continents
C. How to LOCATE a place (=say where)

How to locate ?
Locate = say where a place isRULES : 1- Answer with a sentence. 2- Give - the name of the place
- the country- the continent- directions : North northern (adjective)→ Africa is South of Europe.
South southern→ Africa is South of Europe.
West western→ Africa is South of Europe.
East eastern→ Africa is South of Europe.
Example : This place is Annecy-Le-Vieux, in the East of France, in western Europe.
Lesson 3 : Where are people on earth ?
VOCAon a dot map :a lot of dots = many people = the population is densealmost no dots = few people = the population is sparse
In the key :densely populated places sparsely populated places
You have to know the map of population distribution (names by heart!) :
