    A graduate in science from Meerut College, Uttar Pradesh. Mr. K.P. Singh pursued Aeronautical

    Engineering in UK, being subsequently selected to the Indian Army by British Officers Services

    Selection Board, UK. He was commissioned into the renowned cavalry regiment of The Deccan Horse

    of the Indian Army. In 1960, he joined American Universal Electric Company and soon after its merger

    with DLF Universal Limited in 1979, he took over as the Managing Director of this new company.

    KP Singh made Gurgaon a world-famous outsourcing destination within 10 years, because of his

    world-class earthquake-proof office buildings, apartments, shopping malls and leisure facilities

    (including the DLF Gary Player designed Golf Course).

    Gurgaon is renowned for its large number of call centers and shopping malls.

    In 2008 he was briefly the world's richest real estate tycoon.

    Billionaire and real estate entrepreneur KP Singh is the key man behind DLF, Indias biggest real estatecompany. KP Singhsbusiness interests include the following: housing, commercial complexes, SEZs,

    shopping malls, hotels, and infrastructure development. In 2008 Forbes declared him richest real estate

    baron in the world, having a net worth of $30 billion. However, due the global meltdown his wealth saw a

    sharp decline and the Forbes 2009 list of the worlds billionaires estimated his net worth to be $ 5 billion.

    KP Singh was born on August 15, Year 1931 at Bulandshahar, UP, India. After his graduation in science

    from Meerut College, he moved to the United Kingdom for studying aeronautical engineering. While KP

    Singh was in the UK, the British Officers Services Selection Board, UK selected him for joining The

    Indian Army. After his training at the Indian Military Academy at Dehradun, KP singh was commissioned

    into the The Deccan Horse cavalry regiment of The Indian Army. KP Singh joined American Universal

    Electric Company in 1960. This was a JV between his family and Universal Electric Company of

    Owosso, Michigan, USA. In 1979 American Universal Electric Company merged with DLF Universal

    limited. Shortly After that, KP Singh took the position of the MD of the new company.

    KP Singh had big plans of buying land in Gurgaon. As an entrepreneur and a visionary KP Singh could

    very well see tremendous scope for real estate development in Gurgaon. As time went by the Gurgaon

    transformed into one of Indias leading real estate destinations and a hub of business activity.

    DLF built and developed DLF City, the 3000 acre integrated township in Gurgaon. DLF was instrumentalin bringing a number of MNCs to India, including GE and Nestle. The DLF Cyber City in Gurgaon spans

    DLF Limited (BSE: 532868), (NSE: DLF) is India's biggest real estatedeveloper. The DLF Group was founded by Raghuvendra Singh in 1946 and isbased in New Delhi, India.[3] DLF developed residential colonies in Delhi such asShivaji Park (their first development), Rajouri Garden, Krishna Nagar, SouthExtension, Greater Kailash, Kailash Colony, and Hauz Khas. DLF buildsresidential, office, and retail properties.

    With the passage of Delhi Development Act in 1957, the local governmentassumed control of real estate development in Delhi and banned private realestate developers. As a result DLF began acquiring land at relatively low costoutside the area controlled by the Delhi Development Authority, in the district ofGurgaon, in the adjacent state of Haryana. In the mid-1970s, the companystarted developing their DLF City project at Gurgaon. Its plans include hotels,infrastructure and special economic zones-related development projects.[4]

    The company is headed by Indian billionaireKushal Pal Singh. Kushal PalSingh, according to the Forbes listing of richest billionaires in 2009, was the 98thrichest man in the world and the world's richest property developer. Thecompany's US$ 2 billion IPO in July, 2007 was India's biggest IPO in history. [5] Inits first quarter results for the period ending 30 June 2007, the company reporteda turnover of Rs. 3,120.98 Crore and profits after taxes of Rs. 1,515.48 Crore.

    In the early 1940s to 1950s, Raghuvendra Singh procured real estatearound Delhi. The wealth generated was multiplied over the decadesthrough investments like Punjabi Bagh, Rajouri Garden, Krishna Nagar,South Extension, Greater Kailash 1 & 2, Kailash Colony, Hauz Khas,and Panchsheel. In the 1970s and 1980s DLF purchased 3,000 acres(1,214 ha) of land from farmers in Gurgaon for $2000 per acre.[6]

    At that time, the Haryana government did not allow private companies todevelop the land. Years later, when Rajiv Gandhi became PrimeMinister, he ensured that the Haryana Government changed the locallaw and allowed private companies to develop land. Gurgaon underwenta private real estate boom which is continuing to this day.[7] The boomincludes world-class office buildings, apartments, golf courses, shoppingmalls, 5-star hotels and a private expressway linking Gurgaon to DelhiAirport.

    In 1985, dlf started developing the 3,000 acres (12 km2) it had acquiredfrom farmers.[3] In 1999, DLF developed its first A-grade office spaces forrent in Gurgaon
