Kotak Mahindra Bank wanted to consolidate its distributed data center infrastructure into a centralized data center for all its business units. In addition, the new data center needed to be environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient. Specifically, the new data center was required to use less energy, reduce waste and employ more ecologically-aware standards, practices and have a scalable base infrastructure.

Kotak Mahindra Bank chose IBM to implement the solution after reviewing a number of proposals. The site and facilities team from IBM Global Technology Services - Integrated Technology Services designed and built a scalable, highly available data center that consolidated all of the company's server rooms into one location. The 7,000 sq ft raised floor data center is designed to offer 100 percent concurrent maintainability in its power and cooling design and an optimal uninterruptible power supply (UPS) configuration for energy efficiency.

The IBM services team also implemented an integrated data center real-time power monitoring tool. The IBM solution will enable the deployment of next-generation applications by putting in place zone-based power density in an IT rack area which supports scalability in these zones from low to medium power density and from medium to high power density. Finally, IBM Global Technology Services - Integrated Technology Services provided project management and system integration services.
