• 1965-185,000 troops
• 1968- 500,000 troops
• US had the best weapons and training
• but Vietcong were fighting at home
• popularity of S.V. decreased and influence of
N.V. and USSR increased which made it
harder for the US
War continued to be unpleasant
American public quickly grew to hate the war
Eventually US decided to withdraw (Nixon)
Nixon began withdrawing troops

• Nixon called for bombing to get rid of Vietcong
• last troops were pulled out in 1973
Post war Asia • Cambodia is messed up
• Khmer Rouge
• taken over by Pol Pot
• slaughter 2 million
people
• Regime was removed
and new ones put in
place
• wasn't until 1993 when
fighting was over
Post War Vietnam
• North took control of South and installed communist
government
• communism caused 1.5 million to flee
• many refugees came to America
• 1995, relations became less strained between US
and Vietnam
