Kookaburras defence forces Sydneyinto mistakes

Sydney,NSW- Finally the Sydney Blues rode their luck one too manytimes. They met a defence who was their match and forced no lessthan 7 turnovers and no team could hope to come back from that.

Many felt that this game was won in the lead up by courageous firstyear Head Coach Nathan Richards. Richards made a statement that histeam would not be beaten before the game was played by changing itsoffense to try and counter the all out casino blitzes of the SydneyBlues. He stuck true to his word and it paid off handsome dividends.The cost however was star Quarterback Ryan Picker who had to leavethe game in the opening quarter after injury his throwing arm when DTGeorge Nickson fell on top of him.

This meant the Kookaburras had to turn to the discarded Peter Harperto help guide them through. Harper was solid in the pocket and ran theoffense well although he did turn the ball over with two interceptions,something that may see him benched again next week should Picker beclose to full fitness.

The game also featured some bizarre moments and the luck all wentthe way of the visitors. On Harpers two interceptions Sydney fumbledthe ball right back on the returns. I dont call it luck at all. My guysnever gave up on each play. They got themselves around the ball. Theymade plays. They for ced the error and kept us alive said Richards.Another bizarre moment which had the heads of the Blues droppingsaw a Harper pass deflect off not one but two defenders before beingcaught for a first down by Sidney Rice. It was not Sydneys day.

Harper began the scoring when he connected on an 18 yard flankerscreen to David Kelly. Monikura Joe quickly added a field goal after aBlues turnover before Alfonzo Dennard added yet another 7 when hetook an Interception 66 yards back for pay dirt.

The Kookabu rras made it 20 -0 with another field goal just before the

half but the nail really went into the coffin when Matt Heasmanoffered up another pick at his own 20. Zac Ioesefo caught an 8 yardpass over the middle for the halftime score of 27-0.

Sydney needed to score quickly in the third to get back into it but thatchance never came. A succession of field goals dominated and timesimply took any chance of a comeback away. We made too manymistakes today. It was our most disappointing effort of the year. I amnot sure why we saved this one up till last but we have to live with itsaid Coach Graeme Eadie.
