Koorathazhwan , the rich landlord of Kooram, gave away all his wealth to charities to join Sri Ramanuja. How he discarded the gold vessel brought along by his wife, into the forest of Madhurantakam, is well known story of his sacrifice. That and other such traits could be seen depicted in the lines " ...,vanchamukkurumbaam kuziyai kadakuum nam koorathazhwan saran koodiyapin.." ( Verse 7.Ramanusanootrandhathi). Koorathazhwan/ Kuresar 's help in writing Sreebhashyam by Swami Ramanuja is well known. With his photographic/scanner memory, he was able to read, retain and reproduce all that he read(the commentary Bodhayana vrutti in totality). That enabled Sri Ramanuja to write Sreebhashyam. : + Kuresar/ Koorathazhwan gave his dharsanam/vision to save Sree Vaishnava Darsanam, 'saving' Sri Ramanuja from the wrath of a enemy king. When he was called upon to pray for the return of his vision , he prayed for the return of limited vision to see Ramanuja and Sreeman Narayanan. When he was given a boon to reach His abode, he prayed for the extension of the same benefit to the person who could be held responsible for the loss of his eyes! the name of the person is Naaluran. A book could be written on the mahatva of Kuresar/ Koorathazhwan. i bow to him ! +Ramanuja worried, on account of breach of promise given to thirukottiyur Nambi and announcing the secret and sacred mantra to all those who desire to hear it , that he would be condemned to hell , was relieved when Kuresar got an assurance from Sreeman Narayanan that he, Kuresar, along with him who are associated would gain entry into Vaikuntam. Since Ramanuja was his acharya, Ramanuja was sure he would be admitted to His Kingdom. And , out of joy pulled out his angavastra and threw it towards heaven. We have that utsavam in many places even now. We have the successors of Kuresar serving Lord Ranganatha even today. They are the successors of Parasara Bhattar and Veda Vyasa Bhattar, thiru kumarakal of Kuresar. Parasara Bhattar vaibhavam is a great chapter by itself. We cannot imagine Sree Vaishnavism without Ramanuja, similarly we cannot imagine Ramanuja without Kuresar! One could say Kuresar was Personification Of Sree Vaishnavism! Like · · Share o 4 people like this. o Write a comment...
