The growth of population of 40 years and older residents is increasing or decreasing depending on a specific district. STUDY OBJECTIVE: To analyze whether there is an increase or decrease in number of people of 40 years and older over 2001-2011 depending on specified district in Lithuania. METHODS AND MATERIAL: The data (rates of general population as well as rates of people of age 40 years and older at the beginning of each year 2001-2011) was obtained from the Lithuanian Department of Statistics [1]. The data was stratified into 60 parts each comply the total number of people at the beginning of the year in specified district as well as males and females separately. All data was processed and calculated using MS Excel 2010 (Version 14.0). RESULTS: The general population of Lithuania over the last 10 years (2001-2011) has decreased by 6.95% (more than 240000), male population has decreased by 7.58% (more than 123000) and female population by 6.4% (more than 118000), however the total number of older people (40 years and older ) is increasing. In 2001 the percentage of people of 40 years and older is 43.91%, the rates are increasing every year reaching 50.67% in year 2011 (Chart 1). This goes the same for 40 years and older males (31.76% in 2001 and 38.21% in 2011) and females (47.76% in 2001 and 54.89% in 2011). The increase in number of people of 40 years and older is present not in all districts. By the year of 2004 the increase of older people of both sexes is present in 53 out of 60 districts, 36/60 by the year of 2008 and only 23/60 districts by the year 2011 the increase of older people is present (Figure 1). The increase of male population of age 40 years and older is present in 54/60 districts by the year 2004, 38/60 districts by the year 2008, and 23/60 districts by year 2011. The increase of female population of age 40 years and older is present in 49/60 districts by year 2004, 35/60 by year 2008 and 22/60 by year 2011. Chart 1.
