Secretary and Director of the college Dr. C.A. Vasuki inaugurated and presided over the function. This programme was organized by Dr. V. Bhuvaneshwari and Dr.R.Amsaveni, Assistant Professors in Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore. Dr. R. Subashkumar, Associate Professor and Head in Biotechnologywelcomed the gathering; Organizing Secretary of this awareness programme, Dr.V.Bhuvaneshwari Assistant Professor in Biotechnology highlighted the theme of the programme.     An awareness programme on

    “YOGA FOR DIABETES”

    27.06.2017

    Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore – 641 029.

    World Diabetes Day was announced on 27thJune, 1991 by International Diabetes

    Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization and itis held every year on

    14thNovember.PG and Research Department of Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science

    College, Coimbatore organized an awareness programme on “YOGA FOR DIABETES”at

    the college premises on 27.06.2017. Secretary and Director of the college Dr. C.A.

    Vasukiinaugurated and presided over the function. This programme was organized by Dr. V.

    Bhuvaneshwari and Dr.R.Amsaveni, Assistant Professors in Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts

    and Science College, Coimbatore. Dr. R. Subashkumar, Associate Professor and Head in

    Biotechnologywelcomed the gathering; Organizing Secretary of this awareness programme,

    Dr.V.Bhuvaneshwari Assistant Professor in Biotechnology highlighted the theme of the

    programme. Principal-incharge of the college Dr. V. Balasubramaniam, Dr. V. Chinnusamy,

    Chief Executive Officer and Dr. S. Paulsamy, Dean Academics cum R & Dfelicitated the

    gathering. Special lecture was given by the Chief Guest of thisprogrammeDr. K. Perumal sir,

    Director, WCSC– VISION Academy, Aliyar. He has highlighted the importance of yoga and

    to control pre-diabetes and diabetes using regular yoga practices. Vote of thanks was

    proposed by the Organizing Secretary of this awareness programme, Dr.R.Amsaveni,

    Assistant Professor in Biotechnology.About 250 participants including Students, Research

    Scholars and Faculty Members have benefited out of this awareness programme on “YOGA

    FOR DIABETES”.

    Coimbatore organizedOne day workshop on “Basic LabTechnique”at the college premises on

    30.08.2017. Dr. R. Subashkumar, Associate Professor and Head in Biotechnologywelcomed the

  • gathering, Organizing Secretary of this workshop, Dr.C.Sowmia, Assistant Professor in

    Biotechnology highlighted the theme of the programme. Principal in-charge of the college Dr.

    V. Balasubramaniam presided over the function.

    The aim of this workshop is to make the young and aspiring participants to acquire

    hands on experience in Laboratory Technique to attain knowledge in all Instruments in the lab.

    Demo-cum-lecture session was given byall the faculty members of the Department of

    Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore.

    About 60 participants which includes only the 1st year Biotechnology students were

    benefited out of this workshop. This workshop was organized by Dr. C. Sowmia, Assistant

    Professor in Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore.

    Coimbatore organized One day workshop on “HPLC Technique” at the college premises on

    Biotechnology highlighted the theme of the programme. Principal in-charge of the collegeDr. V.

    The aim of this workshop is to make the young and aspiring participants to acquire

    hands on experience in HPLC Technique to attain job opportunities at various industrial sectors

    as well in scientific research. Demo-cum-lecture session was given by Mr. V. Vinoth Kumar,

    Senior Executive - Customer support, Service Engineer in Amkette Analytics Ltd., (Group of

    A.N.M Alliance) Mumbai and Dr. R. Amsaveni, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology,

    Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore.

    About 80 participants including Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members

    have benefited out of this workshop. This workshop was organized by Dr. R. Amsaveni,

    Assistant Professor in Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore.

  • Organized SEMINAR SERIES ON ENTREPRENEURIAL PERSPECTIVES IN

    BIOTECHNOLOGY on 12th September, 2017at the Conference hall on 10.00 am. The

    programme aims to provide perspectives on evolving landscapeof biotechnology from

    standpoint of new entrepreneurial companies and focus on changes and challenges in the

    industry, as well as opportunities for startups and new entrants. Appropriate for students

    who wish to deepen their understanding of opportunities in biotechnology industry and

    many entrepreneurial opportunities industry provides.

    Organizing secretary of the seminar, Dr. R. Subashkumar, Head Department of

    Biotechnology, welcomed the gathering and presented the theme of the conference. Dr. V.

    Chinnusamy, Chief Executive Officer (SF courses) who presided the function and pointed

    out the need of entrepreneur in current scenario. Dr. S. Paulsamy, Dean, R&D cum

    Academic, felicitated the gathering and signifies the value of entrepreneurship role in

    present condition. Dr. S. Jayashree, Associate Professor in Microbiology, Nehru College of

    Arts and Science, Coimbatore, delivered guest speech entitled, Basics of Entrepreneurship”.

    The second the session handled by Dr. S. Raja, Assistant Professor in Zoology, KASC, who

    delivered a special lecture on Entrepreneurial approaches in aqua culture”. The afternoon

    session entitled “Impacts of biomaterials in pharmaceutical sector” by the industrial expert

    cum entrepreneurer, Dr. SubbiahBalaji, research consultant, Nanobiosolutions and

    Thavaram Association, Coimbatore who pointed out the role of biomaterials in day-today

    activities and needs in pharmaceutical industries. Finally, the Dr. V. Bhuvaneshwari,

    Assistant Professorin Biotechnology proposed the Vote of Thanks.

    “MUSHROOM CULTIVATION” 26.10.2017

    Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore – 641 029.

    Department of Biochemistry and PG and Research Department of Biotechnology of

    Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore jointly organized a training programme on

    “Mushroom Cultivation” at the college premises on 26.10.2017. Dr. R. Subashkumar,

    Associate Professor and Head in Biotechnologywelcomed the gathering; Dr. S. Paulsamy,

    Dean Academics cum R & Dpresided over the function. Theme of the training programme

    and Demonstration-cum lecture on Spawn production, mushroom cultivation was given by

    the Organizing secretary Dr.V.Bhuvaneshwari, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology.

    Lecture on cultivation technology of Oyster, milky mushroom was given by the Organizing

    secretary Dr.S.Krishnakumari, Associate Professor in Biochemistry. About 77 participants

    including Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members have benefited out of this

    training programme on Spawn production and mushroom cultivation technology.

  • NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON NEXT GENERATION SEQUENCING DATA ANALYSIS

    21st& 22nd December, 2017

    PG and Research Department of Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science

    College, Coimbatore organized Two day workshop on “NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON

    NEXT GENERATION SEQUENCING DATA ANALYSIS” at the college premises on

    21.12.2017 & 22.12.2017. Dr. R. Subashkumar, Associate Professor and Head in

    Biotechnologywelcomed the gathering, Chief Executive Officer Dr. V. Chinnusamy, presided

    over the function.

    The workshop ensured the participants with an understanding of the technical aspects

    of data acquisition, and an introduction to tools for data analysis. Identifying the "hot-spot"

    regions critical to protein interaction, which might be attractive drug target for preventing or

    disrupting aggregates and hence for prevention or treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

    Workshop also provided an overview of various computational methods that have different

    functional genomics data sets to identify molecular signatures that can be used to predict

    prognostic outcome for various human cancers.

    on“Homology Modelling and Molecular Docking. Vote of thanks was proposed by the

    Organizing Secretary of this awareness programme, Dr.R.Amsaveni, Assistant Professor in

    Biotechnology.About 100 participants including Students, Research Scholars and Faculty

    Members from various universities, colleges have received practical experience and use this

    information to develop a novel drug for their future research work.

    Report on two day national level meet on Bioentrepreneurshipand Opportunities – 2018

    23-24 January, 2018

    Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Government of Tamil Nadu

    sponsored two day national level meet on “Bioentrepreneurship and Opportunities – 2018”

    was jointly organized by Entrepreneurial Development Cell and Department of

    Biotechnology Anna University Regional Campus, Coimbatore and PG and Research

    Department of Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore during 23-

    24 January, 2018 at Kongunadu Arts and Science College. Dr. K. Kanthavel, Coordinator,

    Entrepreneurial Development Cell, Anna University Regional campus, Coimbatore

    welcomed the gathering and the programme was inaugurated by Secretary and Director of

    Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Dr.C.A Vasuki followed by the Presidential address by

    Dr. J.Jeyaseelan, Indian Drug Manufacturing Association – Tamilnadu and Pondicherry and

    Dr. KalaivaniGanesan, Joint Director, Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation

    Institute, Government of Tamil Nadu. Dr.P.Renuka Devi, Assistant Professor and Head,

    Department of Biotechnology, Anna University Regional Campus, Coimbatore proposed the

    vote of thanks. A total of eight experts from different industries, institutes and incubator

    sectors enlightened the participants with special lectures on entrepreneurship opportunities in

  • pharma industries, biotech entrepreneurship ecosystem in India, scope of

    agribioentrepreneurship, biotechnology education and research entrepreneurship

    opportunities, biostartup challenges and opportunities, biofertilizers and biotech strategies for

    food control. A total of 130 students, research scholars and faculty members from various

    colleges, institutes and Universities participated and benefitted. Dr. V. Balasubramaniam,

    Principal, Kongunadu Arts and Science College delivered the valedictory address and

    distributed the certificates to the participants. The national level meet was coordinated by Dr.

    R.Thirugnanasampandan, Assistant Professor, PG and research Department of

    Biotechnology, Kongunadu Arts and Science College. The programme was ended with

    national anthem.

    “RECENT INNOVATIONS IN PLANT SCIENCE FOR SUSTAINABLE

    AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT”sponsored by ISCA at the college premises on

    21.02.2018. Dr. C. Sowmia, Assistant Professor in Biotechnologywelcomed the gathering.

    Revathibala CEO in charge delivered the Felicitation address.

    The aim of this seminar is to make the young and aspiring participants to acquire

    knowledge on recent innovations in plant research to improve the soil nutrients and

    agriculture productivity. Lecture session was given by Dr.R.Sathishkumar, Associate

    Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore on the topic

    “Plant metabolic engineering”,Dr. T. Muthukumar, Assistant Professor, Department of

    Botany BharathiarUniversity,Coimbatore on the topic “Mycorrhizal fungi for sustainable

    agricultural and forestry”and Dr. M. P. AyyappadassAssociate Professor and Head,

    Department of Biotechnology RVS College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore on the topic

  • “Plantibodies and other related plant transgenics”.About 122 participants including

    Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members have been benefited by the Seminar. This

    Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India in collaboration

    with University of Exeter, United Kingdom jointly organized ‘India-UK Workshop

    onKnowledge transfer on the sustainability of innovative wastewater treatment

    technologies to India’ at the college premises on 03.04.2018. The welcome address was

    given by Dr. S. Paulsamy, Dean Academic cum R & D, KASC, the presidential Address was

    given by. Dr.M.Lekeshmanaswamy, Principal i/c, KASC and Dr. V. Chinnusamy, Chief

    Executive officer, KASC felicitated the gathering. The theme of the programme was given by

    the Organizer Dr. SenthilarasuSundaram, UoE, UK. The Overview of the Project and

    Workshop Aims were explained by Dr. David Benson, UoE, UK. The Session – I was

    chaired by Prof. Tapas Mallick, University of Exeter, UK. Mr. PerurJeyaraman, Coimbatore

    elaborated about Noyyal River History and Cultural practices. Mr. Kalidassan, OSAI,

    Environmental Agency discussed about Noyyal River pollution and Dyeing Industry in the

    river basin. Prof. S. Avudainayagam, Professor and Head, Dept. of Environmental Sciences,

    TNAU, Coimbatore highlighted the Scientific studies on the Noyyal by TNAU. Tamilnadu

    Government Policies and Practices in the Noyyal Basin was highlighted by Dr. R. Ilangovan,

    PWD, Tamilnadu. The second session was chaired by Dr. Brenda Parker, University College

    London, UK. A wastewater treatment practice in Textile Industries was discussed by Prof

    S.Karthikeyan, Professor (Microbiology), Dept of bioenergy, TNAU. Mr. S. Nagarajan,

    President, Dyers Association of Tirupur, Tirupur presented the Best Possible Wastewater

    Treatment by Dyeing Industry. Socio-economic and Health issues from Dye Pollutants was

    elaborated by Dr. K. Muthukumar, Kongunadu Arts and Science College,

    Coimbatore.Wastewater Engineering Solutions for the Dyeing Industry was suggested by

    Prof Srinivas Reddy, IIT-M, Chennai. The third Session was chaired by Prof. K. Srinivas

    Reddy, IIT-M. Dr. Brenda Parker, University College of London, UK pointed out the

    Algal Bioremediation and the Circular Economy. Bioremediation Practices for Sustainable

    Dye Industry: An Environmental Perspective was discussed by Dr. Vandana Mishra,

    University of Delhi, Solar Technology Solutions for Water Treatment was

    demonstrated by Prof. Tapas Mallick, UoE, UK. Purification of Noyyal River water using

    nano particles was suggested by Dr. V. Bhuvaneshwari, Kongunadu Arts and Science

    College, Bioenergy solutions from waste slurry was proposed by Dr. Chris Mann,

    Bennamann Ltd UK. Integrated effluent treatment and water body restoration using micro-

  • algae – An Industrial case study was discussed by Mr. SumeetMohanty, CEO, Phycolinc

    Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Followed by three round table discussions on

    Socio-economic and governance research on industrial wastewater pollution headed by

    Dr.David Benson. Bioremediation research on industrial wastewater pollution headed by

    Prof. Karthikeyan. Wastewater and solar engineering research on industrial wastewater

    pollution headed by Prof. Srinivas Reddy & Prof. Tapas Mallick. Vote of thanks proposed by

    the organizer Dr.V.Bhuvaneshwari, Assistant Professor in Biotechnology, KASC. About 60

    participants participated in this workshop, got benefited by collaborating industry, academics,

    government and economists for the better and cheaper treatment of industrial effluents.

    On 04-04-2018, This team visited TNAU, Coimbatore and investigated the Arulpuram

    Common Effluent Treatment Company Pvt. Ltd and discussed the possibilities of reduction

    in cost and the way to reduce the waste salt from the treated effluent. This is the Zero Liquid

    discharge plant and the possibilities of future Zero Solid discharge plant were discussed.

    Tiruppur has become the model treatment plant in the whole world to follow. Dr. S.

    Senthilarasu, University of Exeter, Dr.K. Muthukumar, Dr. V. Bhuvaneshwari and Dr. R.

    Amsaveni, Assistant Professors, Kongunadu Arts and Science College, organized this

    International workshop.

    United Kingdom organized International Workshop on “Materials for Energy, Environment

    and Biological Applications” on 05.04.2018 at the college premises. The welcome address
