Xian

Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show $80 USD

Relive the glory and grandeur of the Tang Dynasty with a performance at the opulent Tang Dynasty Theater and Restaurant. Through music, dance and lavish costumes, highly gifted performers celebrate the history of Xian, a cultural crossroads on the Silk Road where exotic cultures blend beautifully with the ancient Tang culture. Feast on Cantonese cuisine, prepared by internationally-acclaimed chefs prior to the dance performance. Duration: Approximately 4 hours. Please note a minimum of 10 passengers is required. Transportation is included.

Beijing 798 Dashanzi Art District $40 USD Visit a former factory complex where almost 200 artists and designers have created a community filled with galleries, bars, restaurants, and creative industries now widely known as the 798 Dashanzi Art District. It was built in the early 1950’s by East Germans: a Soviet gift to the Chinese communists. The architects were steeped in utilitarian precepts and the spaces were designed to inspire workforce productivity. Dramatic windmill-like arcs of glass flow from one end of the former machine rooms to the other, creating monumental vaults across the ceiling. Bold, though now faded slogans painted along the beams – phrases like "Mao is the Red Sun in Our Hearts" – recall an era that is fast fading from the collective memory and sharply contrasts with the new socio-economic climate where contemporary art has a strong foothold in popular culture. Stroll around the complex or just relax in one of the many cafes. This post-industrial renaissance is another side of Beijing you should not miss! Duration: Approximately 3.5 hours. Please note a minimum of 10 passengers is required. Transportation is included. Peking Opera and Donghuamen Night Market $80 USD Begin your night out on the town with a lavish pre-theater multi-course dinner at one of Beijing’s top restaurants. Next, proceed to a renowned Beijing opera house for a performance of China’s Peking Opera, a national treasure that dates back over 200 years. This synthesis of stylized action and singing, dialogue and mime, and acrobatic fighting and dancing, represents a unique form of storytelling. In Peking Opera there are four main types of roles: male, young female, painted face male, and clown (male or female). The characters may be loyal or treacherous, beautiful or ugly, good or bad, with their personas being vividly manifested. The Peking Opera’s repertoire mainly revolves around fairy tales of preceding dynasties, important historical events, emperors, ministers and generals. The performance is accompanied by a tune played on wind, percussion, and stringed instruments. As the traditional Chinese patterns are adopted, the graceful and usually handcrafted costumes are of a high aesthetic value. After your show, enjoy an evening constitutional with a stroll in the Donghuamen night market. A dream for foodies, this market offers an endless variety of traditional Chinese snacks as well as exotic finds. Duration: Approximately 5 hours. Please note a minimum of 10 passengers is required. Transportation is included.

Shanghai Evening Cruise on the Huangpu River $110 USD Enjoy a delicious 3-course Western dinner in the French Concession. After your meal, cruise along the Huangpu River, Shanghai’s important shipping artery to both the Yangtze River and the East China Sea. This unique vantage point highlights the ever changing face of Shanghai through its architecture. Stately, historic buildings line the west bank in the Bund district, displaying Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classic and Renaissance styles. On the eastern shore, modern Shanghai skyscrapers rise in the Pudong area, including the futuristic Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Duration: Approximately 3 hours. Please note a minimum of 10 passengers is required. Transportation is included.

Guilin

Li River Cruise $85 USD

Cruise through scenes of rural China set in a fairytale landscape of limestone peaks that have eroded into curious shapes. The Li River cruise floats on the quiet waters from Guilin to Yangshou and is a highlight of the Guangxi Province. As you pass rice paddies, water buffalo, and bamboo groves, this beautiful area truly comes to life. School children and fishermen work with their cormorants and share the river. Float by ancient Daxu Town, which looks as if it stepped out of time with its well-preserved architecture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties! Pass through the dramatic Ox Gorge. The Li River is lined with oddly- shaped hills that have imaginative names, such as “Yearning-for-husband's-return Rock.” With its breathtaking scenery and glimpses of a life far removed from the cosmopolitan cities, cruising the Li River has become a favorite experience among visitors to China. Later, visit the Guilin Tea Institute to learn the art of tea leaf picking and enjoy a traditional tea ceremony. Duration: 4-6 hours, depending on the water level at the time of year. Box lunch is included. Duration: Approximately 1 hour. Please note a minimum of 10 passengers is required. Transportation is included.
