Impact Performance (IP) units are specially designed to meet the strict performance standards necessary to achieve impact certification. the durability of the laminated glass utilized in IP units contributes greatly to meeting this criteria.
Windquest IP units have been certified to meet IPD4, HVHZ and Miami-Dade NOA. these units have been tested to meet the wind zone criteria for most of the windborne debris areas for both residential and light commercial applications.
Casements, awnings, double hungs, single hungs, single sliders, studio, transom, radius, geometric and sliding patio doors are available as Impact Performance units.
NOtE: Miami-Dade NOA certified products include only white vinyl Windquest products. Exterior coated or beige vinyl products are not allowed to receive label.
NOtES:
Windquest Series impact products are tested according to AStM E 1996, E 1886, and Miami-Dade County HVHZ protocol.
Units smaller than the sizes listed in the chart above also qualify as K-Force impact approved products.
Windquest impact units require field mulling with aluminum tube mulls.
Impact laminated glass with LoE2-270 with argon gas is the standard glass for Windquest K-Force impact certified products.

Energy Performance (EP) units are built to meet or exceed strict energy requirements. Insulating values are nearly twice that which is currently required by ENERGy StAR. Plus, they exceed 2010 ENERGy StAR criteria for most climate zones in the U.S. and Canada.
Casements, awnings, studio, transom, radius, geometric and sliding patio doors are available as Energy Performance units. A triple pane glazing system helps these products achieve a remarkable energy performance rating of R5 for windows and over an R4 for sliding patio doors.
Windquest EP units allow for a maximum air infiltration of only .01 cubic feet per minute, which is 30 times better than the industry standard.
the above LoE combination was chosen as the standard for EP units to optimize U-Factor, visible transmittance (Vt), SHGC, and external appearance. Other LoE options are available to meet specific needs or passive solar requirements; check with your local Kolbe dealer for further information.

Kolbe believes that quality is in the details. thats why we insist on using a glazing system to achieve optimum energy efficiency of the overall window unit. Windquest Series products are designed to meet very specific needs, see below for the standard glass used within each application type.
Impact Performance (IP) units are specially designed to meet the strict performance standards necessary to achieve impact certification. the durability of the double pane LoE2-270 insulating laminated glass utilized in IP units contributes greatly to meeting this criteria. NOtE: tested units include argon. the laminate has 1/4" inner pane. Based on Lawrence Berkeley Lab (LBL) Window 5.2 2003 analysis for classical UV transmission data.
l O e c O at i n gKolbes standard LoE2 coating reduces energy transfer through the insulating glass unit. the performance of LoE2 glass is achieved through a sputter-coating process. the coating achieves one of the highest levels of energy performance possible. this process is also environmentally sound and creates no emissions or residues. In summer, LoE2 glass allows visible sunlight in while blocking 96% of the suns infrared heat energy, while in winter, LoE2 glass reflects roomside heat back into the room. the result is significant savings in heating and cooling costs throughout the year. Kolbes standard LoE2 glass also selectively filters out 86% of the suns harmful ultraviolet rays, which provides protection against the fading of furniture, fabrics and carpeting.
a r g O n g a sto further boost energy efficiency, Kolbes standard glass is filled with argon gas. this naturally existing gas is colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-corrosive and non-flammable. Its thermal conductivity is 30% lower than that of air. together, the LoE2 coating and argon gas result in a 51% improvement in U-factors and a 104% improvement in R-values as compared to air-filled insulating glass without LoE2. Whats more, because units with argon are assembled in vacuum chambers, they do not require unsightly plugs in the spacer bars. to maintain the integrity of the product, units to be installed in or shipped through high altitude areas may not include argon gas.
t H e r m O - e d g e s P a c e rKolbes standard glass is complemented by a state-of-the-art, stainless steel spacer bar system on most units. these thermo-Edge units achieve low heat conductance throughout the edge seal design. the primary seal of the dual-seal construction is compressed polyisobutylene, while the secondary seal is silicone. In addition, desiccants are enclosed within the stainless steel spacer to absorb moisture and the spacer corners are bent to be air/gas tight. this improves the overall U-factor of the window and can reduce the potential for condensation by increasing the roomside glass temperature at the frame/glass interface. thermo-Edge stainless steel spacers are one of the many quality details that define Kolbe windows and doors.

Expand the character of your home or project by adding one of our divided lite options to your windows and doors. Choose anything from a traditional, colonial-style pattern to a unique, custom design to accentuate the overall appearance of your project. Windquest units are offered with two types of divided lites: performance divided lites and grilles-in-the-airspace. Divided lite cross section drawings can be found on page 69.
Kolbes performance divided lite (PDL) glazing system gives the appearance of true divided lites without sacrificing energy efficiency. Bars are adhered to both the interior and exterior of a single lite of insulating glass. Aesthetically pleasing spacer bars* are installed within the insulating glass unit. together, these bars create the illusion of true divided lites. PDL bars are available in 7/8", 1-1/8", 1-3/4" or 2-1/4" bar widths. the exterior finish of the PDL bars will match the exterior finish on the unit.
Pe r f O r m a n c e di v i d e d li t e s (Pdl)
Grilles-in-the-airspace are constructed with aluminum bars sealed between two panes of insulating glass, offering the look of divided lites while reducing cleaning time. Choose from standard 3/4" contoured grilles, 5/8" flat grilles and narrow brass pencil bars. Bi-colored grilles are also available in numerous interior/exterior color combinations.
