There have been several
exciting improvements since
you last visited the
Kochville Farmers Market!
First, it is our pleasure to
announce that SVSU will be
participating in a joint farm-
ers market with Kochville
Township in the parking lot
at 2903 Pierce Road.
Our partnership was recent-
ly endorsed by both govern-
ing bodies in an effort to
better serve township resi-
dents and students alike. We
believe this new location
will be an excellent change
that accommodates parking
in addition to pedestrians
coming from the university.
Kochville Township’s
Downtown Development
Authority invites the com-
munity to the Cardinal
Square Farmers Market’s
“season opener” on Tues-
day, June 6th!
This year’s farmers market
will again run on Tuesdays
2pm– 6pm from June 6th
through September 26th.
The Cardinal Square Farm-
ers Market is always seeking
local vendors selling pro-
duce and local food prod-
ucts, as well as high-quality
artistic products. If you’re
interested in selling at the
farmers market or would
like more information, call
us at (989) 792.7596 Ext
113. or email us at
We are also looking for pas-
sionate individuals interest-
ed in part time temporary
employment as the Cardinal
Square Farmers Market Man-
ager. The position pays $10
an hour and runs from June-
September. If you know
someone who may be a good
fit please have them contact
us immediately as the season
is fast approaching ! Vendor
applications for the 2017 sea-
son can be found on our web-
site at KochvilleFarmers-
Market.org along with an up-
dated set of rules for the new
season. We invite you to
come check out us out at our
new location and perhaps
meet some new neighbors.
Our new partnership with the
university means more ven-
dors, a more diverse selection
of products , and a stronger
customer base. This is even
more important as we start
accepting EBT benefits, Dou-
ble Up Food bucks, and other
programs meant to increase
participation from under-
served populations. We look
forward to meeting many new
faces and hope to see you
there!

Spotlight on
New Investment
The Kochville DDA is excited
to recognize Great Lakes Re-
hab Center at 4180 Tittabawas-
see Rd as one of the largest
new investments to open busi-
ness in 2017. This Planned
Unit Development includes
15.74 acres of land and will
bring a Nursing Home, an As-
sisted Living Care facility, a
Central Office Complex, and a
Pharmacy to the area just west
of Mackinaw Rd. We welcome
this new investment with open
arms and look forward to
56,000 square foot state of the
art phase I facility completion
in the summer of 2017.

biking, walking, or any other non
motorized pedestrian traffic.
Sidewalks also improve the expe-
rience of bus riders in our com-
munity, including students from
SVSU who do not have inde-
pendent transportation but
would like to frequent one of the
many fine businesses that call
Kochville Township home.
In this way, we are hoping the
investment in public infrastruc-
ture helps support increased
economic activity and makes
life a little easier on folks with-
out personal vehicles.
The Kochville Veterans Hall has been getting a much needed face lift and we are thrilled to announce updates including new kitchen appli-ances, contemporary paint-ing in the large hall, floor stripping and waxing, deco-rative elements, and bath-room improvements, just to name a few! We have also been busy at the start of 2017 showing off our space and securing
many events for the 2017 cal-endar year and even some reservations for 2018 as well. Act fast if you are interested in securing the hall for your next wedding reception, bridal shower, or family reunion. Prospective renters have re-acted very positively to the hard work and beautiful re-sults achieved so far,. For rental information, or ques-tions, please feel free to con-tact Kerri Malesky, Kochville Veterans Hall Director, at (989) 598-3069.
Each year the Kochville DDA
makes a significant investment
in public art displays through-
out the business district. It is
now your opportunity to be
part of the decision making pro-
cess regarding which art pieces
will be chosen for display in
2017.
If you are a current or former
art teacher, painter, sculpture or
perhaps just an enthusiast we
welcome you to join us on
March 20th at the Kochville
Township Offices at 5851
Mackinaw Rd. Space is limited
for our selection committee so I
do ask that you contact us at
Kochville Township and the
Kochville DDA are passionate about
the ongoing effort to make our busi-
ness district more walkable and pe-
destrian friendly. We are set to begin
constructing sidewalks along the en-
tire north side of Tittabawassee Rd
and filling in the remaining gaps along
Bay Road to Trautner Drive.
A special assessment district was cre-
ated and approved to help fund the
project last fall, with significant con-
tributions also coming from the
Kochville DDA. These sidewalks
serve as an important infrastructure
improvement for those who enjoy

to reserve your spot on
the selection committee.
This process should take
only about 60-90
minutes and your time
would be sincerely ap-
preciated. Site and public
art selection is a very
important place making
effort in our community
and sends a strong mes-
sage that we value crea-
tive expression and the
aesthetics of our down-
town business district.
We hope to see you
there!
Explore Your Local Parks
Kochville Township features two parks of about 54 acres in total
size, plus about five miles of non-motorized pathway for our com-
munity’s enjoyment.
Elmer Lange Park: Located behind township hall with entrances
from both Mackinaw Road and Kochville Road, Elmer Lange Park
is the Township’s largest park and includes a trailhead for access to
the walking path, as well as a large “sledding hill” (please use at
your own discretion—the hill is not actively supervised by the
Township). In addition, since 2014 soccer fields have been availa-
ble at Elmer Park (which are leased by a private soccer organiza-
tion during the summer evenings).
Krossroads Park: A product of
hard work and forward thinking by a
multitude of community partners,
Krossroads Park was developed in
2004 and is located near Walmart on
Fashion Square Boulevard. Krossroads Park includes Rainbow’s
End playground—a disability-friendly, fully accessible playground
facility—as well as a section of the Kochville pathway (with trail-
head) that navigates around a scenic pond.
Kochville Pathway: Park and access this multi-use path at either
of our parks. The Kochville pathway now connects with Saginaw
Township’s pathway, and eventually we hope to connect this with
the broader Great Lakes Bay Region trail system.

Help Select Sculpture Art Displays Fire Department Update
With spring being right around the corner we want to remind everyone to be safe when con-ducting open burning. As a reminder, anything that is not natural vegetation (paper, building materials, etc...) cannot be burned or if the smoke becomes offensive the burning will need to be extinguished. All open burning requires a permit that can be obtained from the Fire Depart by calling 989-792-7596. If you have any questions about open burning please visit the Townships web-site or contact our Fire Inspector, Brandon Rossi at 989-792-7596 extension 123. We have also included the following pie chart to give you a breakdown of which kinds of calls were most common in 2016. Our sincerest hope is that you take the necessary precautions to remain safe in 2017.
