As specialists in solid and engineered French oak hardwood flooring,Chêne de l’Est crafts beautiful flooring that brings light, warmth and distinction to any style interior.Located in Hambach in the heart of the forest region of Eastern France, Chêne de l’Est was founded in 1960by Joseph Bach. A local carpenter, Joseph started working in a small workshop originally built by his grandfather,and from these humble beginnings Chêne de l’Est has risen to become one of the first hardwood flooring companies in France.Joseph Bach’s four children, Raymond, Gabriel, Jean-Michel and Brigitte are together the today‘s management team and are working with manyother Bach family members also involved in different aspects of the operation and sharing the same hardwood flooring passion as Joseph.Chêne de l’Est is proud to offer an extensive range of hardwood floors with styles and finishes to enhance every décor.

Surrounded by forestland, our headquarters and main manufacturing facility is located in Hambach.

Here the raw logs are delivered and transformed through our various processes into beautiful French oak flooring. This facility has two production and one finish lines and has the capacity to produce 4 305 705 SF of solid flooring each year.

In order to provide the widest range of French oak flooring to our customers, we recently acquired this manufacturing facility, located in Darney, deep in the Vosges region of France.

The skilled and dedicate team at this facility produces mainly engineed flooring for our various collections but also some mosaic and industrial flooring for the French domestic market.

Located in the eastern region of France, this facility contains our finish lines. Here we have the capability to pre-finish our solid and engineered floors with both urethane and oil.

A traditional sawmill, located in the center of the Vosges Mountains, this facility processes the oak logs for use in our Chêne de l’Est solid hardwood flooring.

From the forest to your floorNature at your feet

The Office of French National Forest oversees all aspects of our forests, including the decision of forestland sale and harvesting of trees. These decisions are made with only the health of the forest in mind and no tree will ever be harvested before it has reached maturity.

Harvesting of trees is never allowed during the natural growing season which means that Chene de l’Est must purchase all of its annual lumber needs during the harvesting season which runs from November to March.

Wood is a natural and renewable resource, and the forests thrive when proper management practices are employed. The harvesting of the forest is extremely important to its health and it is important to note that after the trees have been cut down, the forest renews itself through a combination of natural seeding, and the planting of young trees.

The yearly harvest takes less than 60 percent of the volume of the forests’ annual growth so the forest area in France is constantly expanding.Both Chêne de l’Est and the French National Forest Office understand the forests’ essential role in protecting and preserving our environment.

The industry encourages sustainable forest management so that the forests can continue to be a national resource that benefits all.

Chêne de l’Est promotes and practices sustainable forest management, and is certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). If you are concerned about clear cutting, deforestation and climate change, make sure you choose a hardwood flooring product that is certified by the PEFC. Chêne de l’Est guarantees that all of our flooring is made from trees taken from forests covered by sustainable mana-gement.
