There are three crosses here. The third has a long shaftl with very short cross arms.

The seat of the Ossary Kings was located in this area. Early monasteries fo Ahenny,Kilamery and Kilkieran were nearby,under the king's protection. Crosses were normally located at entrance to sacred enclosure. All other traces of monastery have vanished. Timber framed structures of clay and wattle.

Nth Cross. Early 9th cAhenny founded by St Crispin.Seven bishops robbed & murdered by brigands when returning from pilgrimage to Rome. Each carried abag of sand which was probably misteken for gold. Note staffs/bacall indicating pilfrim/bishop. Capstone in form of bishops' mitre is unusual.Design thought to be based on earlier wood-metal encased crosses or all wood.
