Thanks to members who turned out for our Family Christmas Party on December 10. I especially commend Brother Steve Dvorak for assembling such an event. Working with parish ministries we welcomed eighteen children who got to experience a visit with a jolly Santa (Brother Eddie Moreno) and who will have a cherished childhood memory of Christmas. Lastly, thanks to those of you who provided the gifts that made those kids feel so special. Such an event was a true manifestation of the giving spirit. I hope we can do even better next year. The coming year starts with heavy work with two projects – our Building Fund Raffle, and the Super Bowl BBQ. The raffle will be an ambitious parish-wide effort. The Council is funding the $15,000 in prizes, but we will distribute envelopes of 20 tickets to all families who are members of the parish. It will be a big job to stuff all those envelopes. We got a start this week, but we just made a dent. Many more of us will need to get behind the effort to get it off to a good start. Deputy Grand Knight Hector Maydon is Raffle Chair and will call another meeting to stuff envelopes. We need a much bigger crew to complete that task. We will also need volunteers to give pulpit talks to sell the project to parishioners. For the Super Bowl BBQ, watch for a call for contributions for supplies, and especially briskets. They are reasonably priced. We will likely need at least 60 to meet last year’s demand. Our ice cream freezer will be at the Dolan Center during the month of January to accept briskets. Parish Wide Raffle to Kick-Off

The Council is nearing the kick-off of a parish-wide raffle to benefit the parish building fund. Envelopes with 20 tickets will be provided to all of the nearly 3900 parish families. A suggested donation of $5 is requested per ticket, or five tickets for $20. The raffle willl be held in conjunction with a parish festival on September 16, 2017. Raffle tickets have been printed and received. This past Tuesday, December 20, a group of members and their wives showed up at the Dolan Center to begin stuffing the first of the 3900 envelopes. The assembled group completed about 20 percent of the envelopes. Additional meetings will be called to complete the envelope stuffing. The Council will begin distributing envelopes to all parish families beginning the weekend of January 7-8. The Council will need a few knights to make pulpit talks to promote the raffle, and to man tables to distribute the ticket envelopes. Unclaimed tickets will be mailed.

WARMEST WISHES FROM THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FOR A JOYFUL CHRISTMAS AND A GRACE-

FILLED NEW YEAR.

Image: THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD, Redemptor Hominis Church Saint John Paul II National Shrine, Washington, D.C

The incarnate Son of God, born into a human family, is manifested to all peoples, represented by the three Magi. Just as the star guided these true seekers of God, St. John Paul II directs our attention to the Redeemer of Man by pointing to the Mother who bore him. Mary welcomes the pilgrims, offering her son. The Son of Man welcomes man, and the Magi joyfully welcome the hope of the nations, offering gifts that acquire their true meaning only in the presence of the world’s Redeemer. The Magi are enfolded in the Pope’s chasuble, since the world is united to the Father through the priesthood of Christ.
